https://ca.news.yahoo.com/knife-crime-soars-nearly-60-062355990.html

The number of offences surged by 58 per cent in just the three years between 2021 and 2024.

You do realise this period was under the previous government?

The incompetent politicians we have now are loathe to do anything about it as they were drug users in their youth and/or their children are.

That's one hell of an allegation.

It's not an allegation so don't bother sending the police round its an opinion based on observation.

You do realise we are talking about a significant ongoing rise in knife crime?

That's just odd.

In other words, you're just making shit up.

No, that’s a very peculiar question.

He already calls anyone who disagrees with him on immigration ‘far right’ and many people who have an opposing view to Gaza marchers have been arrested, including one chap for being ‘openly Jewish’. There is clear two tier policing in operation. He had to back down on controls around X. He is very openly planning on introducing digitsl ID as a means to track and control people and has made many speeches about this. Ok he might not be as far as banning reform but casting them as extremists is a step that way. So if he called a state of emergency what would he do that is more than what he is currently doing?

And no I won’t vote Reform

Umm, the guy wasn’t arrested for being “openly Jewish”.

When it comes to arrests, arresting those who oppose Israel’s mass murder of Palestinians FAR outnumbers arrests of Israel supporters - on October 4th, almost 500 were arrested in one single day.

And finally, the UK gives material help including operating military aircraft to give intelligence to the IDF to assist them in murdering kids in their tens of thousands.

To think a National Emergency should be called by Starmer?

Alot of it is due to an increase in strong cannabis/marijuana use (leading to psychosis) and its virtual decriminalisation- this is becoming clearer and affects black communities more, not sure why. The incompetent politicians we have now are loathe to do anything about it as they were drug users in their youth and/or their children are. Although we had knife crime in the past, we didn't have these random attacks on people in the street, it was more gang related. Countries that are tough on drugs eg Japan don't have this problem.

I guess only Labour MPs are responsible fir this?

Japan does have occasional mass stabbings. Marijuana was cited as a factor in this one, but Japan does also have mentally disturbed individuals who aren't on drugs. BBC News - Satoshi Uematsu: Japanese man who killed 19 disabled people sentenced to death - BBC News

That doesn't quite match anything else you just said (it's not the psychosis inducing cannabis you mentioned, nor is it politician's children, nor is it about the current crop, nor any MP's 'youth'.)

Yes, sadly, recreational use of cocaine is found amongst the ultra privileged, rarely with any risks of being held to account.

I thought the Home Office was in charge of crime prevention - obviously Tory Home Secretaries were devoting all their energies to trying to force through unlawful deportations to Rwanda.

I suppose my post was aimed at everyone saying knife crime hasn’t risen. Pointless gaslighting. Didn’t mean to reply to your specific post.

Do stick to the point. Knife crime has gone up, despite Labour’s statistical manipulation. And despite the sorry denials all over this thread.

Knife crime was highest in 2019, Labour's fault?

samarrange · 08/11/2025 19:34

HRTQueen · 08/11/2025 16:52

Because you have to take into account how many people are not reporting/how many people are questioned/what questions are asked for the stats

how is crime reported now, if not an absolute emergency on line or leaving a message and getting a call back people often feel they can’t reply on the police services now

how actual crimes are reported for stars (knife injuries accidental/partner violence/gang related violence/stranger) change the wording you get a very different result

again look at the police personnel experiences, how public report crime, reports from prisons, probation, mh services

it is not a clear picture that crime is falling it’s a picture that services are over stretched

I firmly place this at cutting of services that have an impact on crime and how crime is handled

Sure, you have to take reporting into account. But I'm not sure it's any harder to report crime, overall, than it was previously. For example I think the police take sexual assault more seriously than 30 years ago. In fact part of the criticism has been that it's easy to get a crime number but not to have anything else done about it - which again may be true, but doesn't suggest under-reporting.

I prefer data to anecdotes, but perhaps the over-60s here will confirm that they have noticed vastly less domestic burglary and car crime than 30+ years ago. My sister was burgled 5 times in London in the 1980s, and I remember national debates about joyriding.

TopPocketFind · 08/11/2025 19:35

UK police numbers fell significantly from a peak in 2010 to a low in 2017 due to austerity measures

Labour's fault?

Thank goodness there are threads like these to trot out the Reform talking points. After all Farage, Tice and Co are too busy doing their multimillion pound talking gigs for UK media (or their constituents) to see them. Phew.

Apart from London where it’s actually risen.

Actually, check your facts it’s dropped by 19% from last year

frozendaisy · 08/11/2025 19:54

So @Netcurtainnelly if a national emergency was called, and the authorities knocked on your door this evening and said you have to get out, move, now, would you be ok with that?

Because that is what national emergency means.
And yes it might not be your house.
But it could be
Or it could be someone else's innocent house that lives near a big bus station

But say it was your house they knocked on @Netcurtainnelly this evening and said "sorry miss it's a national emergency you need to vacate these premises now"

Would you be ok with that?
