I am sure Starmer would love the excuse to impose ever more draconian laws on the UK population - lock up anyone who disagrees with him as ‘far right’, control the press and social media, track us all via digital ID, ban other political parties….

Control the press?

How?

AlphaBravoGamma · 08/11/2025 18:17

All knives should be banned unless with a license, and people made to eat with forks and spoons only.

All restaurants should be made to provide cut up food for people - operate as soup kitchens for the entire population

Or else they're just reaping the rewards of 14 years of Tory under-investment.

How are the Tories to blame for prisoners being allowed to just walk out the door? It's not rocket science fgs. Sam Roberts in cell 6 has a 10 year sentence. All documented and on the computer. How does that translate to someone telling him to pack his stuff and let him out the door? Thats just incompetence on every level. Nothing to do with staff shortages. Sounds like it's more of a data input error.

Ah, so you're just stirring shit for the sake of it. You have no idea what you actually want to happen other than for a man to say "This is an emergency"

Fantastic.

Chronic under-investment in the prison system, leading to low morale, incredibly high sickness rates and poor retention of staff within the prison service, as well as insufficient capacity in the prison system overall. And a failure to invest in updating systems to bring them in line with the modern world, amongst other things.

Sure, the Labour government is in charge now and they will have to fix the issues. They have also made it worse by pandering to the far right on immigration issues. But let's not pretend that these problems have just emerged overnight. Indeed, it was suggested long before the recent cock-ups that one of the reasons for Sunak unexpectedly calling the election when he did is that he was aware that the justice system was about to implode and didn't want it to happen on his watch.

Imdunfer · 08/11/2025 18:24

I'm not sure this has been going on in quite this way for years. I believe there are rising rates of cannabis induced psychosis, due to the strength of the stuff these days. I've certainly seen doctors reporting this. If you add a state of psychosis to a propensity to carry a knife then you have more stranger-victim stabbings.

This is one reason why we need the victim details better recorded.

Stabbings between rival drug gangs is one thing. The random killing of passers by /young girls in a dance class -did not happen in the past

Do you remember this one from 1999?

"
1999: Nude swordsman attacks churchgoers
Eleven people have been injured in a sword attack at a church in south London.

OP, what part of "the numbers have gone down" are you struggling to understand, exactly?

Maybe it would be a good idea for you to get off social media for a while. It seems to be making you unnecessarily anxious.

That doesn’t appear to be true though. The Ben Kinsella Trust reports a 64% increase in Police-recorded offences involving a knife or sharp instrument in the last 10 years (comparing June 2025 to March 2016)

Maybe the meaning of ‘down’ has been redefined for political purposes?

Given that the OP has chosen to make this about Starmer and the current government, though, surely a more appropriate comparison would be with the year immediately before he came to power, though, when the Tories were running the show?

And in the year leading up to June 2025 (ie Labour's first year in government), the numbers had gone down.

If you want to have a conversation about what has gone wrong with the country since 2016, I'm all up for a debate about that, but we will need to ensure that we are apportioning accountability to the right people.

Did you actually get an education in this country? Something must’ve gone dramatically wrong critical thinking was that on your curriculum? How to tell facts through opinion was that on your curriculum? You must’ve been at home with a headache

MrsBennetsPoorNervesAreBack · 08/11/2025 18:41

Yeah, I'm not even going to engage with that kind of nonsense.

He already calls anyone who disagrees with him on immigration ‘far right’ and many people who have an opposing view to Gaza marchers have been arrested, including one chap for being ‘openly Jewish’. There is clear two tier policing in operation. He had to back down on controls around X. He is very openly planning on introducing digitsl ID as a means to track and control people and has made many speeches about this. Ok he might not be as far as banning reform but casting them as extremists is a step that way. So if he called a state of emergency what would he do that is more than what he is currently doing?

And no I won’t vote Reform

I'm still waiting for your list of these 'many more'.

Knife Offences Have Soared 86% In London In The Last Decade

The data shows a disproportionate impact on Black communities, with 45.6% of non-domestic knife crime murder victims being Black, despite making up only 13.5% of London’s population.

Does London not count?

The reference is specifically to 'many more school stabbings' than the OP has ever heard of. Please do read posts in context.

Menopausalsourpuss · 08/11/2025 19:08

Alot of it is due to an increase in strong cannabis/marijuana use (leading to psychosis) and its virtual decriminalisation- this is becoming clearer and affects black communities more, not sure why. The incompetent politicians we have now are loathe to do anything about it as they were drug users in their youth and/or their children are. Although we had knife crime in the past, we didn't have these random attacks on people in the street, it was more gang related. Countries that are tough on drugs eg Japan don't have this problem.

I suppose my post was aimed at everyone saying knife crime hasn’t risen. Pointless gaslighting. Didn’t mean to reply to your specific post.

Do stick to the point. Knife crime has gone up, despite Labour’s statistical manipulation. And despite the sorry denials all over this thread.

Piggywaspushed · 08/11/2025 19:13

I am 'sticking to the point'! It is one of OP's repeated insistences!

So you have no evidence to suggest this, just a feeling from the news. News outlets choose which events to report on - at the moment people are interested in reports on stabbings, so that’s what they feature.

I have said it could just be wrong perception. But from news it does seem yes there are more random knife psychos about.

If you have evidence to the contrary I would love to see but I can’t find any. So you don’t any evidence either.
