Just as the title says. The blatant racism and jumping to conclusions on the threads has been terrible. Mumsnet used to be a more informed intelligent place.

That might be so but last I checked they didn’t also have to deal with institutional racism. Which only exacerbates the issues associated with deprivation.

I’ve been to Kendal. There was a very nice cafe that did a fantastic breakfast and a couple of delis and gift shops that remain in my memory.

I didn’t see any gangs of murderous marauding white kids chasing middle aged people down the street and oddly no lone Eritreans wandering about waiting to save said middle aged people from being murdered.

It’s obviously changed a lot since I was there.

Kendal is a lovely place and I’ve been many times. Not hugely diverse, but there are people of colour there, and they just go about their business the same as everyone else. I think the poster must be confused about where she actually was. I think if there were big gangs of teenagers chasing down someone of colour it would almost certainly have made the news feeds. And what precipitated the chase? Sounds bizarre…

Which posts are you referring to? Can you be specific about what you mean by ‘inciting racial hatred’?

There’s a reason young black men dominate crime stats and it certainly isn’t their propensity for violence, it’s that they’re totally disadvantaged and failed institutionally in every way from the moment their mother is pregnant. They often don't stand a chance.

You are making huge generalisations there and still failing to account for the disparity between young white or Asian people also from deprived areas that statistically are not as likely to commit knife crime.

No one has said that young black men have a propensity for violence. You are blaming it all on ‘institutional failure’ as if black people have no agency or free will which I find astoundingly patronising.

It would be so much better if we could just have a calm conversation about this.

As for how nice Kendal is, I don’t really care. The Lake District is disgustingly homogeneous even to this day and needs to get with the times.

Yes that is true. 81.7% of the UK are white but if they only commit 68% of homicides, that leaves 32% of homicides committed by non white people, yet only 18% of the population are non white.

I’m sure the ‘far right’ terrorist attacks are mostly white but can you tell us how many ‘far right’ terrorist attacks there have been since 2000 compared with Islamic extremist attacks and the relative number of deaths and injuries? (Clue, the vast majority of terrorist attacks have been by Islamic extremists causing well over 100 deaths and thousands of injuries.)

Well, exactly. My DC have only ever been followed, cat-called and harrassed by white British men. Doesn't mean I think they are all the same.
