To ask if you've ever seen a doppelganger?

I'm at a major rail station about 200miles from home and just seen DH who should be at home. Went over and it is the spitting image of him except a bit taller and DH has a mole on the side of his face.

Non-DH saw me staring so I explained why. I showed him a photo of DH and he was also totally shocked at the resemblance. He kindly let me take his photo which I sent to DH, his reaction was to ask when I'd taken it as he doesn't remember having that jacket!

It's freaked us all out bit! Non-DS is 2 years older so not a seperated twin but so so odd.

Anyone had similar?

Multiple people have seen my doppelgänger but I haven’t!

didntlikeanyofthesuggestions · 31/10/2025 16:41

I think this was your husband playing an elaborate trick on you or having an affair.

Ibizaonmymind · 31/10/2025 16:42

I have a doppelgänger who is a friend of a friend. It completely freaked us both out.

EsmeWeatherwaxHatpin · 31/10/2025 16:43

I was given a picture of my doppelgänger by a friend. It was spooky!

Timeforhector · 31/10/2025 16:44

I pity the poor bugger who is a doppelgänger of me

Wow. What made you jump to that conclusion?

notacooldad · 31/10/2025 16:47

I havent seen mine but apparently there was one who lived in the same northern town as me but my circle of friends and acquaintances didnt know her.
I used to get comments such as ' I saw you by the leisure centre this morning ' or 'I just passed you 10 minutes ago, why have you got changed' some people thought i was fibbing when I said it wasnt me they had seen.

ohyesido · 31/10/2025 16:48

Mine is Carey Mulligan. It’s quite freaky seeing her in films because facially we are identical

Yeah, it was a good idea to grow a bit and remove the mole. Wise move Dh that'll fool her!

Same here.

Yes, a woman waiting at a bus stop who looked so like one of my sisters that it was unnerving. As I was approaching and trying to get her attention I was wandering what my sister was doing miles away from where she lived and catching a bus when she had a car. It was only when I got really close up and was about to speak that I realised it wasn't her, and even then I had to really stare to make sure. The poor woman looked a bit worried why some random stranger was smiling and staring at her.

purpleygrey · 31/10/2025 17:04

I’ve seen my sisters. Unfortunately we have always greeted each other by saying ‘alright knobhead’ that was awkward when I realised it wasn’t my sister. 😂

Are you quite right in the head?

Cactusali · 31/10/2025 17:11

I was recently walking near my home. A complete stranger said ‘oh it’s you!’ with a mixture of joy and relief. I said hello to be polite - and in case I’d met her before and had forgotten. Her face fell and she said ‘I’m so sorry, I thought you were my dead friend’. I apologised for not being her dead friend and we went on our way. So it seems my doppelgänger is a dead person. I felt very sorry for the lady as she was momentarily overjoyed to see me. Also it seems like a brilliant start to a novel.

RumJerrySailorRum · 31/10/2025 17:13

No, but I apparently have several seen by multiple of my friends!
Most recently a workmate saw 'me' in Spain.

Weirdly, one of them even had a doppelganger of my dog.

Pollqueen · 31/10/2025 17:13

Yes. Very embarrassingly I saw a good friend at Birmingham New St Station so I ran up behind her, covered her eyes and yelled, "guess who, what are you doing here?" Complete stranger but she was the absolute spitting image of my friend

Gatekeeper · 31/10/2025 17:14

I once saw mine in a department store in the 1980s. I was going up the escalator and she was coming down. It was such a bloody wierd experience that I felt like I could have fallen over. Same hair, build, facial features, style of clothes. She looked shocked and we stared at each other.

CurlewKate · 31/10/2025 17:15

My father once walked up behind me and kissed the top of my head-only it wasn’t me. Fortunately she believed him, rather than calling the police. And he had a photo of me in his wallet. I don't think he ever quite recovered. I hope she did!

SmellsLikeTeenArmpit · 31/10/2025 17:17

Yes! Back in the 90s I used to go and see the Levellers whenever I could. I had a run of 3 gigs in a row (2 in the same city, one 100 miles away) where I bumped into the same man who I mistook for my mate Jonno, and ran over to hug. He hugged me back because he thought I was his mate Jess.

He was not Jonno. I was not Jess. We had a laugh over it and ended up being friends.

TheLivelyRose · 31/10/2025 17:19

I was once approached by a lady in a shopping centre, she put her arm on me in a very friendly manner and said hi. I had never seen this person before in my life.

I just looked at her nonplussed and then it dawned on her that I wasn't who she thought I was. She was shocked beyond belief and called over several of her family members to have a look at me.

They all had their mouths hanging open as they couldn't believe how much I look like the person they knew.

AnnoyinglyIt was before the advent of smartphones, so they couldn't show me a photo. But I d love to know where my doppelganger is.

Coffeeishot · 31/10/2025 17:21

There is a woman i see out &,about that looks like my friend who lives 100s of miles away from me it is unnerving.

I have a double ganger who was a few years below me at school we are both in our 50s now and still so alike. Tbh our village is so small that we are probably some way related!

DeepfriedPizza · 31/10/2025 17:24

Dh went to a music festival abroad and there was a poster of the previous year's crowd. In the crowd was Dh's double and on his shoulders was dd's double

evtheria · 31/10/2025 17:25

I’ve had someone say they saw a girl who looked just like me (but in a different country), but the only doppelgänger I’ve seen myself was during this past summer: was on a ferry in Italy, decided I’d avoid the sun and go sit ‘inside’ next to the window bit… enjoyed the view for a while then turned around to gaze at the rest of the people sat down and on the opposite side of the cabin was a man who was the double of an ex (long, complicated history). I think my heart actually stopped, and then I realized he looked the same age as when we split, ie nearly 20yrs ago, so could
not be him even if he had a facelift and hair dye Grin I actually had to stop myself sneaking looks at the guy because he had just the exact same face, it was fascinating.

I was meeting my older brother and his family at the seaside. Younger brother and his wife couldn’t make it.

I’d just met up with my eldest DB on the pier, we were talking to the DC when we both spotted our younger DB walking towards us. We were both really happy that he could make it after all.

I shouted ‘you kept that quiet!’ Then ‘DB’ moved his sunglasses down to look at the stranger shouting at him and we realised it was just a very good look alike.

We were very freaked out.
