To ask if you've ever seen a doppelganger?

I'm at a major rail station about 200miles from home and just seen DH who should be at home. Went over and it is the spitting image of him except a bit taller and DH has a mole on the side of his face.

Non-DH saw me staring so I explained why. I showed him a photo of DH and he was also totally shocked at the resemblance. He kindly let me take his photo which I sent to DH, his reaction was to ask when I'd taken it as he doesn't remember having that jacket!

It's freaked us all out bit! Non-DS is 2 years older so not a seperated twin but so so odd.

Anyone had similar?

Someone i used to work with went on holiday to Spain and sent me a picture of a Spanish waitress they met. The likeness was scary!

Me and my sister, although 5 years apart often used to be asked if we were twins in our 20s. Again even though there is an age difference we do look scarily similar (less so now in our 30s but in our 20s very alike)

I have seen a few of my doppelganger. Weirdest was years ago at a restaurant. She was wearing a top I have ( but I wasn't wearing mine at the time). She caught me looking at her and I could tell she was thinking- shit! that's me!

Gowlett · 01/11/2025 00:05

Yeah, I saw my-mum-not-my-mum in the local shopping centre. Same age, same hair, same face, same figure, same style. I was about to go over and say hello, but my brain then asked “isn’t Mum at home looking after DS?” So how could she be here…

StElwicksNeighbourhoodAssociation · 01/11/2025 00:06

I moved to a new town with my parents when I was a young adult and hadn't been able to find any work so ended up at the local job club. The guy hosting said he was sorry to see me back and asked what had happened with my new job? A few weeks later I went to a club with some new friends and the bouncer greeted me warmly and let me in for free, having asked how my sister was getting on. Not long later I left to go to uni so never found out who she was, maybe if I'd stayed longer I would have done, it was a small town.

eurotravel · 01/11/2025 00:08

Yes. I literally saw my sister once on holiday abroad. She’s distinctive looking…
except my sister was definately in work in the midlands at the time.

MyOtherSelf · 01/11/2025 00:24

Not only seen her - met her and we lived parallel lives for some years, which caused no end of problems for me. Don't know if she was as pissed off about my existence. We had the same name and worked in the same industry in London.

She influenced me to switch careers when we met. We were amazed by each other - same looks, same laugh and sense of humour, same bloody name! A few years later, people kept telling me they'd seen me here and there. They were either annoyed that I'd blanked them or convinced I must have been incredibly drunk. She did seem to be drunk often, even more than me, and in different venues from where I went. This led my bosses to think I was skiving. My explanation naturally didn't wash!

Two of my friends ran into her, went up to greet me by name. They were rudely dismissed. It's only because this wasn't like me that they took a closer look, then noticed she dressed in a style they couldn't imagine me wearing. They both were a bit freaked out.

Maybe it's true that meeting your doppelganger is bad luck, purely for the danger of being mistakenly seen in places or with people you shouldn't. I did love my work, so she did me a big favour there - and then unknowingly made it harder!

merryhouse · 01/11/2025 00:25

My alumni magazine featured a photo of a red-haired woman in a summery outfit sitting on the lawn. I sent it to my sister because I was convinced it must have been taken while she was visiting... and she assumed it was me! Never found out who it actually was...

BeaTwix · 01/11/2025 00:26

I texted a university friend last week to tell him his doppelgänger was sitting opposite me on the tube.

Friend doesn’t live in London but I had to look at the tube bloke a number of times to make really sure it wasn’t my friend.

It was really uncanny.

When I worked at the hospital as a cleaner, people would say what are you doing cleaning?
I said because that's my job I've been here 18 months.
They said no your Amanda from ward E3 your band 5 nurse. I said no I'm not Amanda.
Everyone in that hospital swore blind I was Amanda the nurse and thought I had 2 different jobs. One cleaning and one a nurse on a ward. Or they though she was my twin.
I did go to the ward to see her and we were like identical twins. We were both shocked.

Could have been handy if either of you needed cover for a sneaky night off 😂

My daughter has one!! I think it was in London though my partner says Bristol.
A few years ago we saw an article about gardens or greenifying spaces in the Gaurdian. I can’t really remember. It was the picture of the girl that caught our attention- it was our daughter!! Except it wasn’t.

We even showed picture to grandparents without context, and they said oh it looks like DD is having a lovely time gardening, did you get an allotment …. They were very shocked to see it was part of an article and it wasn’t really a picture of DD.

ChocolateCinderToffee · 01/11/2025 07:52

I was once stopped by a guy who said hello to me and then did a double take and said ‘It IS Christine, isn’t it?’ That’s not my name. Somewhere in Bristol there’s someone called Christine who looks like me.

Manthide · 01/11/2025 08:31

Years ago we were on a shuttle bus at Gatwick airport and this man wouldn't stop staring at dd1. Apparently she's the spot of Jennifer Aniston! Dd1 was a bit insulted as she is much younger. Dd1 is half Greek like Jennifer and I'm mostly Irish and Scottish with a bit of English and Welsh thrown in for good measure.

Sonolanona · 01/11/2025 08:34

I was in the supermarket and a man turned round and it was my Dad...only not.
My dad had died a couple of years previously, and the urge to run up and hug the stranger was almost overwhelming.

My DH (now 64) is a dead ringer for Patrick Stewart...younger, obviously but identical. He's been followed through airports as a result and asled for his autograph! DS1 and me are comiccon fans and we'd really like to take him dressed as Jean Luc Picard (or X men in a wheelchair!)

CarrieMoonbeams · 01/11/2025 08:39

@Onlyinthrees , that's cute, your dog has a doggelgänger!

I don't have one myself, but I do have a friend called Ian who has one. Ian's never seen him but lots of people have - including me, coming out of Tesco. Ian is very tall and I am very small, so when I saw "him" coming towards me I thought he hadn't seen me at first as I'm so far below his eye level, so I did this weird kind of crouching thing and went from side to side with my arms outstretched like a goalie. The guy looked complete baffled and so was I, because I couldn't understand why he didn't say "oh hiya mate!". I eventually realised - as not-Ian was laughing by this point - and I said "oops, sorry, wrong person". He said "ah, you thought I was Ian didn't you? I've never met him myself but loads of people have thought that." Cringe!

Oh and maybe not quite the same thing but when DH and I were on holiday in London, a bloke - sober, serious - was staring at DH and then came over, saying "Sorry to bother you, but are you Harry Hill?" I mean, DH has got very short hair and wears glasses, but really! 😂

Talltreesbythelake · 01/11/2025 08:40

I had a really embarrassing double doppelganger incident once. I was shopping in town and met a guy I knew who greeted me with delight. We stopped to catch up, when we realised that we didn't know each other at all. He wasn't my school caretaker and I wasn't the person he thought I was. To make it worse, his wife appeared and was very suspicious of me!

LadyContrary · 01/11/2025 09:05

I have one and have seen her pictures, haven’t seen her in real life though. I went into a shop (part of a well known chain, shops all over the UK) and ordered something. The manager approached me and quietly asked if I was doing the “undercover boss” thing. It was busy so we dropped this chat. Then it happened again in another shop a few months later but this time the person openly greeted me using my doppelgänger’s name and asked if I was here to visit the main manufacturing premises again. Turns out I look freakishly like one of their main bosses who travels around the country quite a bit and is very hands on. We even have the same nose - I have a bump which is a result of a childhood injury, I wonder if hers is too.

In Asda one evening looking at the card rack and on the other side of the fixture was the male version of me. We both stared at each other in horrified fascination. I was wondering whether to say anything but didn’t; I expect he was in the same situation.

Also, in my early forties I dated a much younger guy. One day I was at his house on my own (said I would cook a meal) and had a bit of a scout around (as you do) I knew he’d split up from his fiancée a year previously and there was her photo: me but 15 years younger.

Oh I think a male doppelgänger of me (female) would be THE weirdest, that would freak me out more than just ‘another me’!

purpleygrey · 31/10/2025 17:04

I’ve seen my sisters. Unfortunately we have always greeted each other by saying ‘alright knobhead’ that was awkward when I realised it wasn’t my sister. 😂

😂😂

Rosemariebear · 01/11/2025 09:45

Years ago I had a few people swear they’d seen me locally so I must have had one. No sightings recently. I told one person it definitely wasn’t me but she insisted and said I was driving down a road - she finally believed me when I said I don’t drive!

Newname71 · 01/11/2025 09:47

Mine was in a porn magazine brought round by DH’s friend! It was scary! I remember thinking “shit, have I ever got that pissed that I could’ve done that?” Then noticed she had a great set of boobs. I was (pre kids) pretty flat chested. Phew! 😂

I have one who had been seen by several people. She lived in the same city as me but hadn’t been seen for years now. I first discovered her when a friend called to ask me about my day and when I said I’d been in a different city confronted me about the fact she had seen me snogging someone who was not my partner! She was outraged. I was baffled. Later my partner saw her too. At one point she also had the same handbag and car as me!

That’s spooky!

Cheese55 · 01/11/2025 09:51

My daughter has one that we saw on hol. They looked at each other in fascination and then ran off. I think she was from Europe somewhere, non English speaking.

CorvusPurpureus · 31/10/2025 17:51

I had one in the early 90s who was a bit of a goer - I was always having people tell me stories about how they'd seen 'me' dancing on a bar, snogging the face off randoms on the dance floor, starting fights at bus stops, being sick in a bin...

I wouldn't mind, but I'm fairly distinctive looking, so no-one ever believed it wasn't me. Then bf got quite tired of explaining to well meaning types who 'thought he ought to know' about my antics that Real Me had been curled up blamelessly on the sofa with him at the precise time when Other Me had been wrapped around goodness knows who in some dive bar.

Tbf, I suspect her 20s were a lot more fun than mine were!

Haven't heard the term 'bit of a goer' in years 😂😂

Fatcatsinspats · 01/11/2025 11:06

I saw a doppelgänger of my best friend at the Eurostar terminal in Paris - but a younger version. My friend is of Balkan origin but from the UK. She lived in southern France for a while and was continually mistaken for a Madame xxxx - the real one must have got stick from her friends and her acquaintances for blanking them!

boxofbuttons · 01/11/2025 11:12

CraftyNavySeal · 31/10/2025 16:40

Multiple people have seen my doppelgänger but I haven’t!

Same - I probably get a text every 2 months saying "Just spotted you in X park/at Morrisons" etc, and it's never me. But multiple people who are very close to me, including my oldest friend, have 'seen' me. Very weird!
