To ask if you've ever seen a doppelganger?

I'm at a major rail station about 200miles from home and just seen DH who should be at home. Went over and it is the spitting image of him except a bit taller and DH has a mole on the side of his face.

Non-DH saw me staring so I explained why. I showed him a photo of DH and he was also totally shocked at the resemblance. He kindly let me take his photo which I sent to DH, his reaction was to ask when I'd taken it as he doesn't remember having that jacket!

It's freaked us all out bit! Non-DS is 2 years older so not a seperated twin but so so odd.

Anyone had similar?

When I worked at the hospital as a cleaner, people would say what are you doing cleaning?
I said because that's my job I've been here 18 months.
They said no your Amanda from ward E3 your band 5 nurse. I said no I'm not Amanda.
Everyone in that hospital swore blind I was Amanda the nurse and thought I had 2 different jobs. One cleaning and one a nurse on a ward. Or they though she was my twin.
I did go to the ward to see her and we were like identical twins. We were both shocked.

My DSis doppelgänger is Julianna Margulies of ER/The Good Wife fame.

When I first moved to the town I live in, 1980s, there was a woman who worked in the local co op who I was convinced was Meryl Streep working undercover researching an acting roll.

My DS used to get mistaken for a Man United footballer when he was younger, usually when we were on holiday. He was a talented footballer but had a career ending knee injury just as he was talent spotted. Hes also a lifelong Liverpool fan so he’ll would have frozen over before he would have played for MUFC.

The funny thing is was that men would send their other halves to quietly ask if he was said footballer. None of them asked him directly. I’m not a football fan so never saw any resemblance with the player.

Friendlyfart · 31/10/2025 17:33

I stepped off the train the other day and saw a young man do much like DS! I did a double take but I knew it wasn’t him.

Alittlefrustrated · 31/10/2025 17:34

I was in a car park space years ago, having pulled in forwards, and there was a woman, who had also pulled in forwards, facing me. I couldn't believe my eyes. It was like looking in a mirror. Apart from the clothes and car obviously.

UnintentionalArcher · 31/10/2025 17:35

My doppelgänger went to my friend’s gym and is Brazilian. I haven’t seen her in person but my friend shared a photo of her with me. She did look unnervingly like me.

This summer in a cinema I saw a man who at first glance in side profile was so like my husband that my heart was racing with shock. Then I realised that this man was about 15 years older than my husband and only the same in the top half of his face - but in that he was absolutely identical. The eyes were uncanny. It was very unnerving.

My sister has numerous dopplegangers. To the point, it's a bit ridiculous. There's a photo of an actress on the IMDB home page from a still from a film, and she so closely resembles my sister that she (my sister) asked when we'd taken the photo, as she doesn't remember wearing a cardigan in that colour.

My youngest also has several dopplegangers.

Beachhutgirl · 31/10/2025 17:38

I haven't seen mine, but she is in the same care home as my Mum. I get called by her name, and even a determined effort made to give me her medication.

CoffeeBeansGalore · 31/10/2025 17:42

I've been one 😄. Walking along there was a man with a dog a little way in front of me. The beautiful GSD looked behind at me & kept looking back. The owner then looked back & looked again. Then stopped until I was closer.
He laughed & said I was the image of his daughter which is why the dog kept looking back. Obviously once close enough ddog realised I wasn't dd & was rather disappointed!

RoseWilderLane · 31/10/2025 17:43

I've never seen one but apparently I have one. I live very rurally so I'm surprised I haven't run into her yet, it's the kind of place where everyone knows or is related to everyone.

My weirdest moment was when I was standing in a queue for coffee and a man looked at me and said, I'm so sorry, I didn't see you there, last weekend was great! I explained that I thought he was mistaken and he informed me that I had sung at a folk festival and my husband compered it.

Reader, I pity the person who heard me sing and it's not DHs kind of thing.

Lots of others too.

So this is a weird one. I was in a large cash and carry store about 10 years ago where I saw my nextdoor neighbour (let's call her Julie). This wasn't anything unusual as we both often shopped there. It was however highly unusual to see her without her husband. They went literally everywhere together. But there she was, standing alone perfectly still and sort of looking into thin air. I noted at the time that it was somehow a bit odd. Anyway, I was in a desperate hurry and didn't want to get chatting, so I slipped away before she saw me. As I made my way around the store I was sort of looking out for her husband as I was sure I would bump into him, but there was no sign of him. Just to add that Julie was very distinctive looking at only 4ft 9in tall, red hair and a slightly disabled arm. After I got home another close neighbour knocked at my door and asked if I'd heard the news about Julie. I smiled and said that I'd seen her around an hour ago at the cash and carry. The neighbour looked shocked and told me I was mistaken. Julie had died unexpectedly in the early hours of that morning. So I guess I saw a doppelganger but I'd swear in a court of law that it was Julie.

A boy in my class at school went to Australia for a year with his family. When he came back he was absolutely adamant that he had seen me there. I swore blind I had never set foot in Australia but he was having none of it 😀 he actually spoke to "me" and lo and behold "I" also spoke with an English accent!!
It took me a long time to convince him it wasnt me 😀😅😅

MillicentMaybe · 31/10/2025 17:45

I was on a bus just pulling away from the stop. Glanced out the window at a woman passing and wondered where I knew her from. Then realised it was ‘me’.

mcmuffin22 · 31/10/2025 17:47

My dsis and I have a doppelganger who is an actor on Call the Midwife and other things. Both she and I get told by numerous people that she must be the third sister. What is weird is that dsis and I don't look massively alike - there must just be something in our essence 😆

menopausalfart · 31/10/2025 17:50

I've been told I look familiar by strangers my whole life. I must have a common face.

CorvusPurpureus · 31/10/2025 17:51

I had one in the early 90s who was a bit of a goer - I was always having people tell me stories about how they'd seen 'me' dancing on a bar, snogging the face off randoms on the dance floor, starting fights at bus stops, being sick in a bin...

I wouldn't mind, but I'm fairly distinctive looking, so no-one ever believed it wasn't me. Then bf got quite tired of explaining to well meaning types who 'thought he ought to know' about my antics that Real Me had been curled up blamelessly on the sofa with him at the precise time when Other Me had been wrapped around goodness knows who in some dive bar.

Tbf, I suspect her 20s were a lot more fun than mine were!

You cannot not tell us who's the character.

DoAWheelie · 31/10/2025 17:53

Yes. I saw someone who looked exactly like my late OH while waiting in line for a concert. Same face, clothing choices, gait, and mannerisms.

Freaked me out for a good while.

KLD89 · 31/10/2025 17:59

Yes, about a fortnight after my mom passed away. I was with my friend, both of us walking up our local highstreet while shopping and we saw the side profile and back of this woman that was dressed exactly like my mom would dress, same hair, same face and build. We both audibly gasped and gripped each others arm, I was hit with a flood of emotions and my friend was spooked. This woman was even pushing the same pushchair as my little brothers (with a baby of the same age) and wearing the exact same ‘denim jacket’ that my mom lived in. Never seen her before or after (I live in a town where everyone knows everyone, even if it’s not personally)

It’s an odd feeling isn’t it. Like supernatural almost.

PeonyBulb · 31/10/2025 18:00

I’ve been told quite a few times that I remind people of someone I know

PeonyBulb · 31/10/2025 18:00

They know

EveryMeandEveryYou · 31/10/2025 18:02

I have seen 2 dopplegangers of me - one in a school picture from decades before I attended that friends pointed out and another advert featuring a "me" pregnant on the NY subway also sent to me by a friend! It only works if I have long hair but very freaky.

worrisomeasset · 31/10/2025 18:03

When I first started supply teaching, I noticed that children would frequently call me Mrs OtherName. It happened so often that I deduced there must be another supply teacher who is my doppelgänger. Eventually, Mrs OtherName was posted to the same school as me, I knew it was her as she looked just like me. I told her that kids kept mistaking me for her, she replied that she’d been called my name several times. Any kids who saw us talking to each other must have been very confused.

muddyford · 31/10/2025 18:06

I met my double while visiting a convent. Some of the sisters were very puzzled.

FastFood · 31/10/2025 17:51

You cannot not tell us who's the character.

The actor is Jessica Raine. I can't see it myself but I think it is something about how she speaks as well.

Lampzade · 31/10/2025 18:09

My sister’s doppelgänger was in a hair magazine that I bought
The hair model was the spit of my sister . My sister actually convinced her then boyfriend ( now husband ) that it was her in the photo .
