To ask if you've ever seen a doppelganger?

I'm at a major rail station about 200miles from home and just seen DH who should be at home. Went over and it is the spitting image of him except a bit taller and DH has a mole on the side of his face.

Non-DH saw me staring so I explained why. I showed him a photo of DH and he was also totally shocked at the resemblance. He kindly let me take his photo which I sent to DH, his reaction was to ask when I'd taken it as he doesn't remember having that jacket!

It's freaked us all out bit! Non-DS is 2 years older so not a seperated twin but so so odd.

Anyone had similar?

Yes, I saw a man in town once who looked so very much like my dad. Had a tshirt on that my dad would have worn as well. I also had a doppelganger near where I worked, a couple of people bumped in to her and said she was me, even had a similar walk. I met someone that she must have worked with too as he came up to me in a very friendly was and started a conversation, then when looked at him ver confused he in turn looked very puzzled and told me he thought I was someone else. I never saw her though.

Two boys in dd's school are identical. I'm sure they're brothers but apparently they're not even related!

ohyesido · 31/10/2025 19:21

Gaz from Geordie Shore looks very much like an Eastenders actor, can’t think of the name now

I was recently walking near my home. A complete stranger said ‘oh it’s you!’ with a mixture of joy and relief. I said hello to be polite - and in case I’d met her before and had forgotten. Her face fell and she said ‘I’m so sorry, I thought you were my dead friend’. I apologised for not being her dead friend and we went on our way. So it seems my doppelgänger is a dead person. I felt very sorry for the lady as she was momentarily overjoyed to see me. Also it seems like a brilliant start to a novel.

This happened to me not long after my dad died. I was in Tescos and a man walked past and I swear he could have been my late father's twin.

I couldnt help myself, and followed him at a discrete distance a bit around the shop feeling a weird mixture of overwhelming grief and a strange comfort seeing his likeness. When he finally left I felt strangely comforted by seeing him. I dont think he noticed me but if he did he probably thought I was a right weirdo.

I saw my double on holiday abroad 30 years ago we walked past each other and both did a double take.

Multiple people have seen my doppelgänger but I haven’t!

Same!

InterestedDad37 · 31/10/2025 19:45

A guy I know could easily be mistaken for my brother, except for detail that this bloke is quite a happy soul, whereas my brother is a miserable b@stard 🙂

JaffavsCookie · 31/10/2025 19:47

I actually have one. Lives in a village about 12 miles from mine and has the same number of kids, just opposite sexes. Ihave run into numerous people who think I am her, worked with one bloke briefly who called me her name by mistake, in our shared local small town i get mistaken for her, then once, madly i nearly fell over her in the supermarket 🤷‍♀️ She also knew of my existence

MarmaladeSandwich7 · 31/10/2025 19:50

Somebody saw me on the tube but I was in Cornwall at the time.

XelaM · 31/10/2025 19:52

My dad was an absolute spitting image of the former NBA player (young) Vlade Divac - he's also EXTREMELY tall and played basketball and had the same black beard/hair. Completely by coincidence, Vlade Divac's nephew was in my brother's class at school and they were close friends. Very nice family.

A former colleague was an absolute SPITTING image or Nigel Farage.

I have one who had been seen by several people. She lived in the same city as me but hadn’t been seen for years now. I first discovered her when a friend called to ask me about my day and when I said I’d been in a different city confronted me about the fact she had seen me snogging someone who was not my partner! She was outraged. I was baffled. Later my partner saw her too. At one point she also had the same handbag and car as me!

Achewyhamster · 31/10/2025 20:03

Dp and his mate both have one

Dps popped up in a fishing photo on FB

I refused to believe it wasn't dp as this bloke had the same name!

I was in Tesco when I thought I saw his friend and I was just about to walk over and say hi,when I noticed it can't have been him as I was dogsitting his dog while he was on his holidays abroad

I've seen this bloke a few more times but the friend hasnt

Freaked me out both times

JohnBullshit · 31/10/2025 20:23

Someone has popped up repeatedly in photos of events I've been at. Absolutely unconnected and long distances/times apart. People show me them and say Look, John, there you are. Except... it's never me. They wear different clothes and stand where I wasn't. I never see them when I'm there, and nobody else notices a doppelganger.

CosySeason · 31/10/2025 20:25

I have seen my brother and my best friends doppelgänger.

OldGothsFadeToGrey · 31/10/2025 20:33

My doppelgänger also had a very similar name to me. She made the news because she was murdered, in a town not far from where I’d moved to for uni.

Freaked a whole bunch of people out when I showed up alive at a pub I used to frequent back home, a couple of years later.

Edited because I’ve just remembered that about 5 years after that I was stopped in the street by a very eccentric man who was convinced I was someone he knew (not the same lady who was murdered). Then HE was murdered a few weeks later and I ended up being a witness as something he had with him then was rather distinctive and they made no mention on the news of it. I called the witness line about it and they found the item which linked his killer to the murder.

So I suppose this is also effectively my spooky Halloween post contribution too.

GordonRamsey · 31/10/2025 20:40

I always carry a 'stick-on mole' and a pair of 'height increasing shoes' for the very reason of spooking the missus at Halloween!

How we laugh about it later over a couple of giant Pot Noodles.

hazelnutvanillalatte · 31/10/2025 20:50

In secondary school, I was apparently a doppelganger for a girl with quite a fearsome reputation. I arrived mid-year and only stayed a few weeks, and the school was huge and not very nice, but people called me by her name, and even when they found out I wasn't her, it was like some of her reputation extended to me

Bowup · 31/10/2025 20:55

I was at training for my role which I had to attend for quite a while, and the trainer wouldn’t stop staring at me. She then came to speak to me afte a few sessions and said I was the image of her daughter, even down to the way we spoke and mannerisms. She was known for being a bit stern and strict during training but was absolutely lovely to me 😂

MamaBobo · 31/10/2025 21:02

A very close friend once chased “me” for quite a distance before catching up with this girl who turned out to be a total stranger. She was my double apparently.

I’m adopted and subsequently did a bit of research into my birth family. Turns out I have a half sister, less than a year younger than me who would have been living locally at the time. I always wonder if it was her.

OnTheBoardwalk · 31/10/2025 21:05

I had someone in the street argue with me that I was called Sue and worked in HMV

OSTMusTisNT · 31/10/2025 21:09

I used to see my DH's working on a travelling fair that comes to our town annually. Same dimples, same hairstyle , same black leather jacket - really weird.

It would be so cool if there was some kind of non dating app where you could tag people who look like each other 😆.

And, the opposite, MIL had 4 siblings who all looked alike - short, same hair colour, hair texture, eyes etc. Except for 6ft tall jet black hair MIL (before old age shrunk her), I did once joke if her Mum had a particularly tall dark handsome milkman but she didn't find that as amusing as me 🤣.

Dahlia1234 · 31/10/2025 21:25

My father passed away in June 2011. Just three months later, my husband and I travelled from our home in South Yorkshire to Cornwall for a change of scenery. We were hundreds of miles from home, deep into a much-needed holiday.
It was there, sitting in a parked up van, in Tesco's car park of all places, that I saw him.
He was my dad's perfect double. The resemblance was absolute—right down to his glasses. The shock was immediate and took my breath away, especially given our distance from home. My husband, who is usually the sensible, grounded one, was also completely freaked out by the uncanny sight. "Fuck!" I remember him saying!!
I was so shocked and sad but I just couldn't look away. It was a silent, surprising, and deeply affecting reminder of my dad, appearing in the most unexpected place. I often wonder who he was, but I doubt I'll ever see him again. But just for a brief moment, he gave me my dad back.

I expect your predilection for pot noodle has both stunted your height and your prepubescent brain

I've never met a doppelganger in person but I'm regularly being mistaken for other people........ once an elderly man hit me with his umbrella and told me off for ignoring him ........ apparently I lived next door to him.......... never seen him before in my life 🤷🏻‍♀️
