To ask if you've ever seen a doppelganger?

I'm at a major rail station about 200miles from home and just seen DH who should be at home. Went over and it is the spitting image of him except a bit taller and DH has a mole on the side of his face.

Non-DH saw me staring so I explained why. I showed him a photo of DH and he was also totally shocked at the resemblance. He kindly let me take his photo which I sent to DH, his reaction was to ask when I'd taken it as he doesn't remember having that jacket!

It's freaked us all out bit! Non-DS is 2 years older so not a seperated twin but so so odd.

Anyone had similar?

Mines a bit more psychological/ paranormal. When I had a newborn and was recovering from birth I was propped up with cushions on the sofa breastfeeding DS. DH went out for a few mins to give the dog a toilet break (we agreed I’d not be left alone with the baby again after this!) and I saw a doppelgänger of myself.

We had just moved into a draughty Victorian house and the living room door wouldn’t fully close. I looked across from my cushion station into the hallway and saw myself walking down the hallway, wearing a lovely long brown coat and some dark framed glasses. “I” made eye contact with me and then carried on walking down the hall. I knew it was myself and all I could really think was- wow there I go in a fabulous coat.

Mine is Carey Mulligan. It’s quite freaky seeing her in films because facially we are identical

Lucky you. She is lovely looking!

I have never met anyone who looks in the least but like me. In my early20s my housemate thought I resembled Dakota Johnson a bit - but I don't think anyone else saw it!!

Dakota is gorgeous!

I went to school with a boy who looked so like me people thought we were fraternal twins. Also once saw my doppelgänger, but maybe ten years older, standing outside a sofa shop - she stared at me as hard as I stared at her!

Smallsalt · 02/11/2025 00:48

Saw myself in the Careless Whisper video!
I was never into him but was idly watching a George Michael documentary and there I was😂.
Scrambled for the remote to rewind and pause.
It was the weirdest thing. I actually pondered for a moment about when it was that I was in a pop video and how had I forgotten.

littlegreydevil · 02/11/2025 00:57

I have two friends (in completely separate friendship circles) who are doppelgängers. They don’t know each other but whenever I see one, it strikes me how much she looks like the other. Only difference is one is blonde and the other one is dark (though going grey nowadays) but they could be sisters.

Formerdarkhorse · 02/11/2025 00:59

I have a local-ish doppelgänger that multiple people
have told me about (they have all asked are you x who does y at z location, so I know they are all referencing the same person).I do have a suspicion that we are tangentially related, but due to family dynamics I have never pursued this theory and I hope we cross paths ourselves some day so I can find out.

I think this was your husband playing an elaborate trick on you or having an affair.

Are you unwell?

CrotchetyQuaver · 02/11/2025 01:07

Yes I had one 40 plus years ago at 6th form college, it's very odd looking at someone totally unrelated by blood who is identical to you in mannerisms as well as physical appearance. I wonder if she still looks like me?

MyOtherSelf · 02/11/2025 01:30

It's really interesting that our doubles share our mannerisms, voices, etc. There have been several really bad 'bottlenecks' in ancient history, when the entire human population was under a million, so it stands to reason that there's only a limited number of genetic types.

Added to that, DNA databases show that regional populations have remained fairly static for the past few thousand years - people who grew up in the same place as their great-grandparents probably are related to everyone else from the same place, albeit several generations back!

Genetics are weird. Fascinating, but weird.

patooties · 02/11/2025 01:37

I’ve seen mine - we were at the same opening night of a show.
We both washed our hands in the loo next to each other - both looking in the mirror at each other.
Our friends were pointing each other out over the evening so much so we spoke. Her children even looked like mine (the eldest daughters looked like twins 5 years apart)
Weird.

MyOtherSelf · 02/11/2025 01:39

If the daughters ever bump into one another, @patooties, it's going to make a brilliant family (or families) story!

My doppelgänger also had a very similar name to me. She made the news because she was murdered, in a town not far from where I’d moved to for uni.

Freaked a whole bunch of people out when I showed up alive at a pub I used to frequent back home, a couple of years later.

Edited because I’ve just remembered that about 5 years after that I was stopped in the street by a very eccentric man who was convinced I was someone he knew (not the same lady who was murdered). Then HE was murdered a few weeks later and I ended up being a witness as something he had with him then was rather distinctive and they made no mention on the news of it. I called the witness line about it and they found the item which linked his killer to the murder.

So I suppose this is also effectively my spooky Halloween post contribution too.

Edited

Bloody hell! Shock

Mine is Margot Robbie. It’s more of a curse than anything

How is that a curse?? i assume you were joking? 👀

steff13 · 03/11/2025 16:47

I've never seen her, but I know I have one, and her name is Renee. I have, throughout my life, had people I didn't know come up to me and start talking to me, thinking I was her. I was even waiting to be seated at a restaurant with my mother and grandmother one day, and I woman I didn't know came up and started talking to me. We were all confused, and it turns out she was Renee's Aunt.

FeatheryFlorence · 03/11/2025 17:37

I worked in a British Embassy for a bit. I was chatting to someone who had worked there years, and he said he had been sorting through some old photos of events, and had found one of me attending an event there about 10-15 years ago. He showed me the photo, and even I would have agreed it was me, but I had never visited the Embassy before working there. Never found out who she was.

Separately, there is a woman who lives close to where I live in London called Clare. I’ve lost count of the number of people who have greeted me as Clare. Apparently we even have the same wonky eye.

Aposterhasnoname · 03/11/2025 17:37

Loads of people have seen mine, but I never have. My best friend who I have known since I was four swears on anything you like she saw me kissing a bloke who wasn’t DH in a car in town, when I was in fact on holiday in Greece with DH, and loads of work colleagues have berated me for ignoring them in x shop or y pub, when I just wasn’t there.

MaybeNotBob · 03/11/2025 17:50

At least three people have told me they've seen me in different places, even different countries, where I wasn't.

Notinmylifethyme · 31/10/2025 18:10

My "brother" got on our train 2 months after he died. Quite freaked me out, and really upset my youngest.

But on a lighter note, my friend's son started school and 2 other boys in his class, were his double / triple?

That's how she found out about her husbands antics. 🙄

Isn't there a shockingly high percentage of people who are not the biological children if their presumed father? I don't think this explains all doppelgangers but lots of us have siblings we don't know about.

FoxLoxInSox · 07/11/2025 11:34

I’m very, very, down on my own looks, and very modest usually.

But when flicking through a magazine about a year ago in the hairdressers I jumped out of my skin to see a papped pic of myself, sunglasses on, in what appeared to be London. For a moment I was totally lost and mind-blown. Then I looked at the words below and it was apparently Naomi Watts.

I was chuffed.

Quokka2 · 07/11/2025 13:16

Changeforarest · 31/10/2025 18:26

My sister - same hair, same glasses, same style of dressing. Marching purposely along a pavement coming towards me nearly every time I visit the town where she lives. I always think - Oh, it's X! - before realising it isn't. The real difference is that this one always looks down at the pavement as she walks.
Now it's a bit creepy because I visit this town irregularly and at different times of the day, and I probably see this woman about 80% of the times I drive along that road. Only the last couple of times I've started to feel a bit creeped about it, and it occured to me that I don't want her to look up and catch my eye.

Yes, more creepy ones please 😅

gooseberryfooled · 07/11/2025 14:25

I clicked on this thread thinking it would be about spooky doppelgangers but this is so much better!

DH and I were on a weekend break, sitting in a café. The man at the table next to us started chatting to my DH and I nearly gasped when I looked at him - he looked just like my Dad, who died many years ago. It was really uncanny. DH had only seen my dad in real life a handful of times before he died, so he didn't immediately see the resemblance.

After the man left, I mentioned it to DH and I had looked like I'd seen a ghost when the man first starting talking to us, but it had taken a couple of minutes for him to realise why! We're planning to move to the area and it felt a bit like a good omen.

Disturbia81 · 07/11/2025 19:34

Love that!
No never seen anyone close to looking like me and neither has anyone else. I know a few others like that. And then I know some people who I see copies of everywhere!
