Visitors turning up to stay has ruined my weekend

Relatives have turned up to stay unannounced from 60 miles away. I was looking forward to having a very chilled weekend watching what I wanted on tv and snacking with some lovely walks.

AIBU to think its rude to turn up unannounced?

So they’ve literally tipped up with overnight bags? You could have had plans.

Have they done this before?

I'd have told them I had such 'exotic' and 'private' 😈 plans they'd be out of the door like a shot.....😎red faced

ShesTheAlbatross · 25/10/2025 16:36

People turning up unannounced expecting to stay overnight would be sent packing by me. Who the actual fuck thinks that’s reasonable?

Bathingforest · 25/10/2025 16:36

These things do not happen just like that. Say : we have not issue an invitation, please leave now and reconsider how you communicate with me for future times

BruFord · 25/10/2025 16:37

ChewbaccasMrs · 25/10/2025 16:35

If you don't feel you can just tell them to leave tell them you've got a really horrible stomach bug so they can't stay.

@ChewbaccasMrs Tee hee, that would get most people out the door quickly!

oncemoreuntothebeachdearfriends · 25/10/2025 16:37

Don't waste your time moaning on here, you should just tell them they are very rude and must go away.

Catsknowbest · 25/10/2025 16:37

Teizzz · 25/10/2025 16:25

I just want to be on my own.

You need to tell them. Like, now.

FreyjaOfTheNorth · 25/10/2025 16:38

Why did you let them in?

BitOutOfPractice · 25/10/2025 16:38

Bloody hell that’s not on! I’m not surprised you’re hacked off.

BunnyLake · 25/10/2025 16:42

Teizzz · 25/10/2025 16:25

I just want to be on my own.

Who are they? How old are they? Who on earth would do this? I can’t think of a single person in this day and age of texting who would do such a thing. It’s incredibly rude and entitled.

GAJLY · 25/10/2025 16:44

60 miles journey and they didn't ask?! That's crazy! I think I'd make them sandwiches and a cup of tea but say that they can't stay over as you have plans tonight and tomorrow! Sign post them to a nice hotel. Who even does that?!!! What would they have done if you weren't in?!!!

LIZS · 25/10/2025 16:46

Do people really do this? Why? Tell them you have plans but they can come back tomorrow for a walk if they can find somewhere to stay.

ThrushorSparrow · 25/10/2025 16:49

Not on. Even my mother, whose house is always spotless, would want to make some preparations for overnight guests.

WeeGeeBored · 25/10/2025 16:49

Are you sure they didn’t arrange it with DH who forgot to tell you?

Otherwise YANBU. I think I would have given them a cup of tea then sent them on their way.

Tink3rbell30 · 25/10/2025 16:49

Why haven't you used your words?

Stillgroupie · 25/10/2025 16:50

Another poster who's a wet blanket.

Opal888 · 25/10/2025 16:50

This is unhinged behaviour. I hate anyone even calling in on me unannounced for 10mins, you need to send them packing!

ChocolateCinderToffee · 25/10/2025 16:50

I remember relatives on my mother's side doing this once, and staying for a week. I have always wondered what my mother said that made them decide to descend - making a five hour car journey - without it being arranged beforehand.

Hankunamatata · 25/10/2025 16:51

Parents?

WallaceinAnderland · 25/10/2025 16:51

Another poster paying the wet lettuce tax 😂

Owly11 · 25/10/2025 16:51

You sound passive. If you wanted a weekend on your own you need to make it happen. Offer a cup of tea and then make an excuse and send them on their way.

Freda69 · 25/10/2025 16:52

Incredibly rude - tell them you’ve got norovirus!

Blondeshavemorefun · 25/10/2025 16:52

Who are they

say No to staying

Liverpool52 · 25/10/2025 16:53

WeeGeeBored · 25/10/2025 16:49

Why have you assumed the Op is married married?

thepariscrimefiles · 25/10/2025 16:53

There is absolutely no justification for any visitors to just turn up without checking first, even if they are only popping in for five minutes. To just turn up and expect to stay for the weekend is really rude and inconsiderate. I'd be fuming.

Changename12 · 25/10/2025 16:54

Did they literally say ‘we have come to stay?’ Just say they can’t and you have plans.
