Is it me or is this all a bit sheepish - time for a new trend surely, ladies?!

OP posts:
NerrSnerr · 20/10/2025 10:53

Why does it matter what other people wear? Just wear what you want- it really doesn’t matter if others choose to be ‘sheepish’. Trends change and some people prefer to try and blend in which of course is fine.

FionnulaTheCooler · 20/10/2025 10:55

I only see teenage girls wearing it like that. We all remember being a teenager and following the latest trend to fit in.

PevenseygirlQQ · 20/10/2025 10:55

It’s a trend it will come and go, whoever doesn’t like the style can choose not to wear it. Lots of MN’s love places like Boden and I can’t understand why, but it’s none of my business and I hope everyone dresses the way they wan’t.

Vroomfondleswaistcoat · 20/10/2025 10:57

Round us it's a horse rider's uniform. Riding leggings and long socks - they take their boots off and stick on a pair of clogs or slip on shoes to go out shopping. Boots back on when they get in and back up on the horses.

So I didn't even realise that this was an actual 'look'. Here, it's just practical. Probably explains why I'm so unfashionable!

Needmorelego · 20/10/2025 11:03

I've noticed a lot of teenage girls who wear thick black tights under their school skirts with white socks over the tights.
I think it looks GREAT because we did exactly the same 35 years ago at my school.
We often went for bright coloured socks or miss matched ones but I expect a lot of schools don't allow that these days.

Salvadoridory · 20/10/2025 11:05

I like it. I wear white slouchy socks for pilates and am in the process of knitting myself some pink and lemon striped legwarmers. Bring back the 80s!

PlaydohClub · 20/10/2025 11:05

I voted yabu.

It’s just socks over leggings. Isn’t it just like wearing tights or wearing a tshirt under a jumper? It’s kind of non descript.

As for being ‘sheepish’ most items of clothing you own are derived from a trend or influenced by something else.

No one is truly original, we might like to think we are, but we’re not.

Mewling · 20/10/2025 11:09

I couldn’t move myself to be that bothered by someone else’s outfit unless I wanted to compliment them on it. “Ladies”. Pffft.

ForTipsyFinch · 20/10/2025 11:12

I can’t say I’ve noticed this here but then I don’t micro analyse strangers to the point I can comment on their socks 😆

ConnieHeart · 20/10/2025 11:13

I recently met dd's friend's mum for the first time. I put on a dress with trainers, it's my go-to look as it's smart but casual. She turned up with leggings with long white socks & sports trainers. She looked really good but it's not a look i would feel comfortable in. She's also 10 years younger than me....!

CeliasLastFart · 20/10/2025 11:14

All my mates dress like this- they look great. I’m the odd one out but I love a trend and love noticing peoples take on them too

samones · 20/10/2025 11:14

It’s hardly new, we were wearing socks over our leggings in 1987

BrightSpark10 · 20/10/2025 11:17

Still better look than dropping kids to school in pyjamas 🤷🏼‍♀️

bumbaloo · 20/10/2025 11:18

What you mean like the wildly outdated floral dress, white sneakers and denim jacket trend or the biker jacket trend over a dress trend or the jeans and a nice top trend?

who cares. Wear what you want. You don’t like it, don’t wear it

bumbaloo · 20/10/2025 11:20

And anyway, sure ALL trends are sheepish by definition

you are requesting a new trend to follow? Weird.

Itiswhysofew · 20/10/2025 11:23

I think it looks really sweet.

spoonbillstretford · 20/10/2025 11:23

Haven't noticed many people wearing leggings other than at the gym.

I often have big fluffy socks on with leggings and fake Birkenstock clog things when I'm going to yoga or swimming, but it's a practical thing rather than a fashion statement.

WhatsForDinnerMama · 20/10/2025 11:25

Why are you bothered what ‘ladies’ wear? Stop looking and leave the ‘ladies’ alone.

spoonbillstretford · 20/10/2025 11:25

At school 30 years ago I used to wear opaque tights and socks. Nice and toasty warm it was.

ERthree · 20/10/2025 11:25

Surely every trend/fashion is sheepish ?

CardiBTEC · 20/10/2025 11:25

The thing is, why should anyone feel the need to follow trends or start new ones? Doing this most of the time means buying more clothes you don’t need, more clothes going to landfill etc etc. I think it makes far more sense to pick a style you like, that suits you, stick with it and fuck what everyone else thinks 🤷🏼‍♀️

Foreverwipingcounters · 20/10/2025 11:30

Surely all trends are sheepish? I can't get worked up about the way someone wears their socks. Unless you go out dressed as Mr Blobby or with a massive dick on your hairband I doubt you're going to look very original. Just wear what you like and stop judging others for their seemingly practicle and comfy clothing choices.

ImFineItsAllFine · 20/10/2025 11:34

It's not a 'uniform' round my way for anyone over the age of about 15

Slowdownyouredoingfine · 20/10/2025 11:35

It’s me 👋🏼 Its just leggings and socks though… hardly outlandish for the school run?! It’s comfortable, it’s warm. I’ll admit the socks feel a bit ‘trendy’ but I don’t want cold feet 😂

Unpaidviewer · 20/10/2025 11:35

What trend are you wanting to start OP?
