Is it me or is this all a bit sheepish - time for a new trend surely, ladies?!

OP posts:
whatevenwasthat · 20/10/2025 11:40

Isn't that what a trend is though - people being "sheepish" and adopting similar styles? You don't like it, OK, don't wear it.

I'm a typical millennial - will wear trainer socks with leggings as my uniform, but I am enjoying having warmer ankles at this time of year on the occasions I've donned a pair of full length socks. I shall do as I please. You do you.

EgregiouslyOverdressed · 20/10/2025 11:40

It keeps my ankles warm.

I'd also suggest 'sheep-like'. 'Sheepish' already exists as an adjective and has a completely different meaning.

Caleb64 · 20/10/2025 11:42

But it’s so comfy! I’ll be wearing this uniform as long as possible. I love that younger women now can wear trainers and socks even on nights out without feeling under dressed, I feel sick when I think about the heels I wore as a young woman 😂

beAsensible1 · 20/10/2025 11:42

meh its an activity uniform. unless you suggest people tucking the socks under the leggings instead?

NannyOggsScones · 20/10/2025 11:45

I did this with my adidas socks at the weekend - I’m sure some teens saw me so given I’m 53 I might be personally responsible for killing this look. You can thank me later OP.

ranoutofquinoaandprosecco · 20/10/2025 11:46

Ha ha, I’m looking at myself with blue slouchy socks over my yoga pants! It’s practical, never thought it was cool!

At school 30 years ago I used to wear opaque tights and socks. Nice and toasty warm it was.

Preferable to bum cheeks on display.

Must admit, I've never seen any bum cheeks on display other than on the beach or in a changing room.

SP2024 · 20/10/2025 11:50

This definitely seems to be the “mum” uniform at baby classes these days. I’m clearly too old and not cool enough as I remember that look the first time round. Old new mum here 🤣

whatcanthematterbe81 · 20/10/2025 11:50

You busy?

Coldsoup · 20/10/2025 11:52

It's mainly only young teenagers and the occasional Stanley cup clutcher round here

RaraRachael · 20/10/2025 11:53

Must admit I've never seen anyone IRL wearing this - it mustn't have caught on where I live. I've seen it on Tv though and it looks awful. It's amazing what people will wear in order to be a sheep follow the latest trend.

Grin DH and I successfully killed the ""skibidi" phase in our house by using it repeatedly Grin

It is around here as well, black leggings, white slouchy socks over the top with trainers and in winter paired with a full length puffa coat and woolly hat, Stanley cup optional!

EgregiouslyOverdressed · 20/10/2025 11:59

I really cannot see the problem. It is pleasingly nostalgic for those of us who remember slouch socks from the 90s. Socks under leggings are lumpy. Trainer liners leave the ankles exposed and cold.

BnuchOfCnuts · 20/10/2025 12:12

It’s my gym uniform.

I love my big white crew socks over my leggings.

I don’t care if it’s “sheepish” I’m there to concentrate on my workouts.

Vitriolinsanity · 20/10/2025 12:16

It’s my riding, dog walking, decorating outfit. Mostly these activities involve boots over, but in between trainers/sliders.

As I have been doing this for yeeeeeaaars i declare myself the trendsetter.

I've noticed a lot of teenage girls who wear thick black tights under their school skirts with white socks over the tights.
I think it looks GREAT because we did exactly the same 35 years ago at my school.
We often went for bright coloured socks or miss matched ones but I expect a lot of schools don't allow that these days.

One of the many ridiculous rules at dc school is no socks and tights together. Even if it’s really cold. Another stupid rule is you have to wear a jumper if wearing a coat you can’t on a warm but rainy day for example wear the polo shirt plus a rain jacket 🤦

WearyAuldWumman · 20/10/2025 12:21

Are they supposed to be white? I have pilates this afternoon and all my socks are coloured...

I've missed the trend!

CryMyEyesViolet · 20/10/2025 12:23

I’ve always worn leggings and socks, not always white. I often wear socks over tights too as I don’t like how tights slide about in shoes (and actually I prefer to wear footless tights and socks so my toes don’t get squashed).

I HATE (and I cannot stress how much I hate) having bare ankles unless it’s 25 degrees outside. I don’t even like other people having their ankles bare in spring/autumn/winter (the men wearing no socks trend gives me the biggest ick) but I accept I can’t police what other people wear.

I will be wearing socks and leggings even when it’s truly frumpy and the opposite of trendy. I won’t be going cold for anyone.

Cucy · 20/10/2025 12:24

Oh the irony 😂

The fact that you’re asking MNers before deciding whether this trend is over, shows that you are more of a sheep than the people you are judging.

ThisGentleRaven · 20/10/2025 12:27

I like it, it's comfy
The trend for "trainer socks" was not.

When white slouchy socks are trendy, you can buy them everywhere .No one is forcing you to buy them.

Thesummer · 20/10/2025 12:29

I bloody love it. No more cold ankles, no more horrible sensation when your trainer sock is slowly coming off inside your shoe, no more bunching or riding up of the bottom of your leggings (I have skinny ankles). I hope this trend never goes away tbh!

lighthearted too!

I don't find leggings specially comfy, so I wear more shorts than leggings - meaning bare legs but the usual white socks.

You can't see my ankles, but you can the rest of my legs. I wonder how you feel about that 😂(and again, in half a jokey way, I am amused)

Jokerwithagin · 20/10/2025 12:33

I refuse to do this - fashion be damned. I am and always will be an ankle-sock millennial.
