Is it me or is this all a bit sheepish - time for a new trend surely, ladies?!

I wear coloured ones but more like walking socks worn slouchy, not sport ones pulled up like my 12 year old 😂. And it’s only to keep me warm

MrFluffyDogIsMyBestFriend · 20/10/2025 13:03

White sports socks have always been revolting so I couldn't quite believe it when they became fashionable. It's instant ick for me if a man wears white socks, especially if they're pulled up the mid calf.

Vaninees · 20/10/2025 13:04

I’m not aware of ever having seen it. I guess this means it’s ubiquitous and uninteresting.

boxofbuttons · 20/10/2025 13:05

Caleb64 · 20/10/2025 11:42

But it’s so comfy! I’ll be wearing this uniform as long as possible. I love that younger women now can wear trainers and socks even on nights out without feeling under dressed, I feel sick when I think about the heels I wore as a young woman 😂

Same on all counts! So jealous when I see everyone out in their trainers.

And the leggings-big jumper-white socks is my go-to office days outfit if I've got no client meetings (it's a very casual office, to be fair). Mega comfy and warm.

BitOutOfPractice · 20/10/2025 13:07

I wear this to walk to the gym. If I’m going to yoga or Pilates they will be teamed with clogs. I’m 58. No fucks given what anyone else thinks.

elb1504 · 20/10/2025 13:13

Currently sat here in my leggings with long white socks, its fabulous no more cold feet, or wet ankles on the school run and comfy for running around after 2 kids and in and out of the house.

Namechangerage · 20/10/2025 13:13

Is it this look? I do find it a bit weird as I’d rather just wear the socks underneath my trousers. And not wear trainers that look ugly AF.

I’m still comfy by the way!! Just a wide leg trouser /adidas girl though so I appreciate it’s just not a look for me. And it’s not like adidas gazelles haven’t been everywhere. But I do see the socks tucked in absolutely everywhere.

edit to add: obvs different if you’re actually going to the gym, but that can’t be the case for everyone I see wearing it 🤣

I tried it the other day getting ready for the gym and thought I looked like Max Wall (showing my age!). Not a look for me but I think it looks fine on others.

😆 now that’s a reference I haven’t heard for a while

Not surprised. Horrible man.

Not surprised. Horrible man.

I don’t actually know who he is, just remember my parents saying it whenever I wore leggings!

Myblueclematis · 20/10/2025 13:17

I saw a young woman wearing this look for the first time on Saturday whilst waiting for a friend in the shopping mall. Most fashion trends in young people often pass me by but coming onto MN, I'm obviously picking up on what's being worn and what's old hat.

I also noticed the woman wearing a skirt so short, I could see her pants under her tights! That was definitely not a good look at all. Could have done without seeing that in close proximity.

RafaFan · 20/10/2025 13:17

Needmorelego · 20/10/2025 11:03

I've noticed a lot of teenage girls who wear thick black tights under their school skirts with white socks over the tights.
I think it looks GREAT because we did exactly the same 35 years ago at my school.
We often went for bright coloured socks or miss matched ones but I expect a lot of schools don't allow that these days.

Were you in Scotland? I remember wearing the exact same thing, but can't believe that trend has come round again. I live in Canada now, and a few years ago teenage girls were wearing Birkenstocks and big fluffy socks (even in winter), and have now moved onto Blundstones and fluffy socks - much more sensible.

Fupoffyagrasshole · 20/10/2025 13:21

ive lived in black skinny jeans and a black tshirt with either a denim shirt or red or yellow Plaid shirt for 25 years! Nobody is going to change me and I dont care what anyone thinks.

why do you care what other people wear op??

FastFood · 20/10/2025 13:22

I see that look a lot in my area, looks cute and comfortable, and honestly, I probably would have adopted it last winter if I didn't have to walk the dog in the mud (therefore totally ruling out wearing anything white near my feet)

Sog2 · 20/10/2025 13:28

All the 30s affluent mums I see wear this.

I like it….

But I do agree it does look a bit ‘sheepish’ when absolutely everyone is wearing the exact same socks-over leggings with white trainers combo.

You know I was just coming to say this, 15 year old me was all over this 😂

You know the good thing about it all OP? YOU do not have to follow the trend, you can trendset yourself, you can wear anything you like to wear but complaining about what someone else is wearing that is not in the least offensive really is a waste of a thread.

SapphireSeptember · 20/10/2025 13:35

Who wants to bet a fiver OP is a bloke?

Who wants to bet a fiver OP is a bloke?

Yes, I got the same feeling from the patronising “ladies”. 🙄

OSU · 20/10/2025 13:39

Where I live (coastal) the trend is tanned skin (unless you are already brown or black), straight hair, preferably dark, baseball cap a la Victoria Beckham at leisure in the 2000s. Athleisure sweat top, preferably obviously designer. Black leggings with toweling white sports socks pulled up to above ankle over the top of said leggings and chunky white trainers. Coats vary from trench to puffa but they must always be mid lower leg length. Top marks if you have lip filler and gel nails.

I am one of those people who would feel like a fraud dressing like this and, despite being about 10-15 years older than these yummy mummies I feel very child like and ‘un put together’ around them! There is an achingly trendy Pilates and yoga place with a coffee shop inside that my friend suggested meeting me at a few weeks back. I stuck out like a sore thumb. To be fair, so did my friend. She’s Arab-American with a mass of curls but she is outgoing and confident. I’m ‘very British problems’ by comparison 😂

limescale · 20/10/2025 13:39

I've noticed it recently among newer, younger members of our running club. I thought it was more gym wear, but seems to be more popular for any sport or any thing really. If they're comfy and can exercise then good for them for following the trend.

If I wore it, people might think I'm a young thing if they're behind me - then I'd turn around and they'd be greeted by all 55 years of my face! Teenage and young people trends are by definition sheepish, no?

limescale · 20/10/2025 13:41

ThatNattyPlayer · 20/10/2025 12:34

I wear it all the time, I got judged by some miserable cow in the patrol station over the weekend for it.
life is too short for moaning about people socks

What did they say/do? How odd.

Yeah, I got that vibe.

I also love my leggings and white sock look so not going to stop wearing it.

CareerChange24 · 20/10/2025 13:44

PlaydohClub · 20/10/2025 11:05

I voted yabu.

It’s just socks over leggings. Isn’t it just like wearing tights or wearing a tshirt under a jumper? It’s kind of non descript.

As for being ‘sheepish’ most items of clothing you own are derived from a trend or influenced by something else.

No one is truly original, we might like to think we are, but we’re not.

Very true, unless you are designing never before seen designs and creating clothes yourself, you are not original OP.

But what you don’t know is that sweater is not just blue. It’s not turquoise. It’s not lapis. It’s actually cerulean.
