Is it me or is this all a bit sheepish - time for a new trend surely, ladies?!

OP posts:
ThatNattyPlayer · 20/10/2025 12:34

I wear it all the time, I got judged by some miserable cow in the patrol station over the weekend for it.
life is too short for moaning about people socks

PenelopeChipShop · 20/10/2025 12:34

I’m so old that I still wear trainer socks as the conditioning that socks pulled up is ‘nerdy’ won’t let go of me!!! I realise I’m not in fashion but don’t care. I think it looks alright on the people who wear it.

The only trend that actively bothers me is when people wear those capes that you’re meant to put on after outdoor swimming on the high street or in the supermarket miles from open water. I can’t explain why but I don’t like it

SilverStripedSunset · 20/10/2025 12:35

Round my way this look is being supplemented with those long Dry Robe jackets. I’m so tempted to get one as they look so cosy but man they are ugly 😂

eqpi4t2hbsnktd · 20/10/2025 12:35

I wear socks over gym leggings every morning... as Im going to a gym class.

It should be law that you can only wear a dry robe if you have literally just stepped out of a freezing pond.
Same with Uggs. Only legally acceptable if you have just finished surfing.

Corknut · 20/10/2025 12:37

There are always posts like this that seem to have an undercurrent of snobbery. There’s nothing wrong with it, some people like to follow trends and wear things to fit in, some people don’t. Sheepish own odd thing to say, I think everyone follows trends or popular items to some degree even if they don’t realise it, if it’s not clothes it’s home stuff or something else 🤷🏻‍♀️

Irritatedandsad · 20/10/2025 12:40

I think people are glad of this trend, our ankles were cold in the trainer socks era, now at least we can wear full socks with our leggings.
I prefer leggings as a daily wear, it means I am comfortable for my life of school run, work from home sittjng at desk, excercise, dog walk, school run again, park trip, football kick about with the kids, cleaning the kitchen floor, running washing up and down stairs and standing in the cold while they do their sport activity.
Its my favourite trend as I can wear my leggings plus not have cold ankles and be comfortable doing all the above.
(Pre kids I was heels and dresses or smart jeans only, but I did not have any of the above activities to do).

IsItSnowing · 20/10/2025 12:41

I’d not heard of this but they sound comfy so now I’m going to get some.

Nellieinthebarn · 20/10/2025 12:41

I used to be horsey, and still dog walk every day, so I've been wearing long socks with jods or leggings for over 30 years! admittedly they usually have wellies or country boots over the socks. Its not really a trend in rural areas, its just clothes.

Dry Robes becoming fashionable are the best thing that happened in the last century 😂

TheTortiePuffinNeedsHerBreakfast · 20/10/2025 12:42

If you want to kill a trend, just get a cabinet minister to wear it 😁

can I ask.. WHY?

Someone created Dry robes which are the most comfy, warm and waterproof bit of clothing ever, WHY should we wear them for wild swimming/ mud races only?

What a waste of a fantastic garment that would be.

deadpantrashcan · 20/10/2025 12:45

Uniform?

What clothing do you find acceptable?

I’ll be honest, I used to find myself noticing things about others when I was unhappy with my body. So I made a change, and no longer pick up on trivial things like this.

Let people be and do what they want, or work on yourself so that things like this don’t impact you.

🤍

Teen and mums uniform, and anyone's uniform for the last couple of years.

Add a Dry Robe and life is beautiful.

teacupzs · 20/10/2025 12:46

I don't see many teens it's more 20s-40s.

I do find it a bit odd that you can have a group of women or men all dressed exactly the same now. When I was a teen/younger person there were trends but way much more variation.

That’s insanity. Certainly must have been a miserable cow.

spoonbillstretford · 20/10/2025 11:49

Must admit, I've never seen any bum cheeks on display other than on the beach or in a changing room.

See them most days at school chucking out time.

DiscoBeat · 20/10/2025 12:47

Hardly worth starting a thread about how others choose to wear their socks!

MrsSkylerWhite · 20/10/2025 12:48

Showing my age, they must be freezing.

Sometimes I wear leggings with the socks with my uggs just to piss people off

Purplepeopleeaterz · 20/10/2025 12:50

We wore slouch socks over leggings in the mid 90’s, but we also wore donkey jackets that before that trend only the bin men wore, jelly shoes & rah rah skirts.

I do find the tight sports socks a bit jarring on myself but if I were younger would have been wearing it 🐑🐑

Oh I am so happy about this trend too! I hated trainer socks slipping down into my shoes. I hated cold ankles, or shoes rubbing and giving you blisters.
Leggings and thick gym socks is a perfect combination for practical purposes.
And after the jobs, you can kick off your trainers and step straight into some nice boots. Lovely.

I like it. I wear white slouchy socks for pilates and am in the process of knitting myself some pink and lemon striped legwarmers. Bring back the 80s!

I bought some leg warmers last year! Was just thinking the other day I need to order more. Thanks for the reminder!

Sagaciously · 20/10/2025 13:00

I’ve only just ditched my trainer socks and bought longer ones, so I hope I’m not already dated.
