Is it me or is this all a bit sheepish - time for a new trend surely, ladies?!

Dry Robes becoming fashionable are the best thing that happened in the last century 😂

They're popular for sure but not remotely stylish. You might as well go out in a bin bag - in fact, that might look better 😂

Namechangerage · 20/10/2025 13:13

Is it this look? I do find it a bit weird as I’d rather just wear the socks underneath my trousers. And not wear trainers that look ugly AF.

I’m still comfy by the way!! Just a wide leg trouser /adidas girl though so I appreciate it’s just not a look for me. And it’s not like adidas gazelles haven’t been everywhere. But I do see the socks tucked in absolutely everywhere.

edit to add: obvs different if you’re actually going to the gym, but that can’t be the case for everyone I see wearing it 🤣

Edited

I actually have this legging & socks combo 😂
For me, it's comfort, my weekends are spent usually an early morning gym session followed by running around after 2 boys and there football with food shopping, cleaning & the likes chucked in so I'm 100% guilty for the socks and leggings and I'm owning it comfort is key for me. I'm also partial to wearing baggy joggers too as my downtime attire........ must be the sheep in me hahaha!

PigglyWigglyOhYeah · 20/10/2025 13:47

I'd also suggest 'sheep-like'. 'Sheepish' already exists as an adjective and has a completely different meaning.

Absolutely. I frankly couldn’t care less how people wear their socks, but I do hate people using language inaccurately.

I've noticed a lot of teenage girls who wear thick black tights under their school skirts with white socks over the tights.
I think it looks GREAT because we did exactly the same 35 years ago at my school.
We often went for bright coloured socks or miss matched ones but I expect a lot of schools don't allow that these days.

I remember wearing knee length white socks over American Tan tights, it looked like we had a deep tan on our legs. Usually worn with a mini skirt or hot pants (showing my age now!). It was uncomfortable though if you didn't make sure your tights were pulled right up, as you ended up with your gusset round your knees.

Crapola25 · 20/10/2025 13:50

What are you proposing the alternative is OP? Socks tucked under leggings? Who cares

MrsKateColumbo · 20/10/2025 13:52

It looks warm and cosy!

Do you remember the 00s where we went sockless in our unsupportive ballet flats? I LOVE wearing socks these days haha

reversingdumptruckwithnotyreson · 20/10/2025 13:53

Maybe it’s just where I live but I haven’t seen many of these? Certainly not with white socks at least.

girlabouthome · 20/10/2025 13:58

It’s the school drop off/pick up uniform round here.
Gym leggings, white socks, Adanola this, Adanola that.
It’s not for me!

You can make anything look stylish, depends how you wear them 😂

And when you have to zip them up and have the hood up in torrential rain, who cares what you look like, people can't see anything with the rain in their eye anyway!

They're too expensive, but I am fighting so hard not to buy 3 or 4 in different colours!

Do you not see the irony @Beachwandering in describing people as ‘sheep’ for following a trend… then suggesting it’s time for a trend to follow?!

OK, go on then - how would you make it look stylish? 😂

dafa · 20/10/2025 14:14

I agree everyone can wear what they like, trendy or not. All trends are sheepish really, and they all go in and out of fashion.

But this is 100% the cool mum’s uniform at the drop off at our school.

It doesn’t suit me so I don’t wear it, it suits them.

ILoveLukeAlderton · 20/10/2025 14:16

It’s definitely a mum uniform here usually accompanied by a Stanley cup, small dog and lip fillers. I’m old enough to hate white socks but can see it must be quite cosy - I’m not sure why that’s why anyone is doing it though.

The really ugly trainers offend me more but not to the point it affects my daily life!

MrsLizzieDarcy · 20/10/2025 14:24

As someone who wore leggings and leg warmers in the 80s, I can only look at it with a smile and think that I'm so glad to be in my 50s and not give a shit what fashion or trends are.

Needmorelego · 20/10/2025 14:26

RafaFan · 20/10/2025 13:17

Were you in Scotland? I remember wearing the exact same thing, but can't believe that trend has come round again. I live in Canada now, and a few years ago teenage girls were wearing Birkenstocks and big fluffy socks (even in winter), and have now moved onto Blundstones and fluffy socks - much more sensible.

No.
Oxfordshire 😂

PlaydohClub · 20/10/2025 14:26

@CareerChange24 haha, I actually had that quote in mind when I wrote the bit about trends, but thought it would probably go over the ops head 🤣

If you've got the look about you, you can make a bin bag look good.

I can't...

CryMyEyesViolet · 20/10/2025 14:30

ThisGentleRaven · 20/10/2025 12:29

lighthearted too!

I don't find leggings specially comfy, so I wear more shorts than leggings - meaning bare legs but the usual white socks.

You can't see my ankles, but you can the rest of my legs. I wonder how you feel about that 😂(and again, in half a jokey way, I am amused)

I’m a big fan of shorts and socks too. If I didn’t feel the cold so much I’d wear shorts year round, but provided your ankles are covered I totally approve. I have some strong Victorian modesty values 😂

(I also don’t really like collar bones on show either, but I’d take them over ankles).

CoffeeLipstickKeys · 20/10/2025 14:35

Most People adhere to a group dress code, consciously and unconsciously we find our tribe
Thats how we know what’s on trend, what’s mutton dressed as lamb, what’s too young by knowing the societal norm dress code for age and stage
So,it’s no more sheepy than other groups who dress a certain way. The schoolgate mums, the work mums, the corporate guy,the dog walkers, the gym bunnies

Ouvavuuu · 20/10/2025 14:41

ThatCyanCat · 20/10/2025 14:30

I can't...

I can't even imagine Bjork looking cool in a Dryrobe - it's just not possible. She could probably pull off a binbag though.

Cosyblankets · 20/10/2025 14:46

I wear what I'm comfy in
If it's the trend it's the trend
If it's not I don't care
I don't care what anyone else wears
It's nothing to do with me

Scalessayeek · 20/10/2025 14:50

I call it the basic bitch school mum edition- and I live in it in an array of autumnal shades. It is comfortable, warm and great for school runs and errands. (You forgot to mention finishing it off with trainers- usually new balance)!

SeaAndStars · 20/10/2025 15:00

I live near a school and 99% of the school girls who pass my window are wearing leggings, white socks, very short skirt, black puffa and long straight hair.
It's the trend I'm sure and I'm in my 60s so it's over my head but crikey they all look identical.

teacupzs · 20/10/2025 16:26

I think people are glad of this trend, our ankles were cold in the trainer socks era, now at least we can wear full socks with our leggings.

I love that socks are back in but there is a whole world of socks, not just white sports socks paired with leggings.

QuiltPlantCandle · 20/10/2025 16:29

I've never seen it! I'm outside the UK, so maybe it's just a UK thing.
