The leggings tucked into white socks ‘uniform’

Is it me or is this all a bit sheepish - time for a new trend surely, ladies?!

Maybe we need a thread about what trend/fashion we would like to see make a comeback.

lighteningthequeen · 20/10/2025 17:49

If someone was to start a thread saying they were worried about others judging them as a “sheep” for wearing leggings and white socks on the school run, people would say “wear what you like and are comfortable in”…

I love having a “uniform” for day to day stuff like the school run, and frequently wear adanola leggings with socks and a jumper. It’s comfortable, and means when I get home I don’t have to get changed before walking the dog round the block after and then I only have to change into a work top (I WFH) when I get home.

I live near a school and 99% of the school girls who pass my window are wearing leggings, white socks, very short skirt, black puffa and long straight hair.
It's the trend I'm sure and I'm in my 60s so it's over my head but crikey they all look identical.

Same with the boys no individualism these days,if they walk in a row breadth wise .. they look like Russian dolls.

I wear coloured ones but more like walking socks worn slouchy, not sport ones pulled up like my 12 year old 😂. And it’s only to keep me warm

TBH, mine are just whatever socks Morrison's happened to have in whilst I was doing my food shop.

I'm just back from Pilates and today's combination was dark green/black Sweaty Betty sale yoga leggings plus light grey with dark grey spotted socks.

Zempy · 20/10/2025 18:43

I haven’t seen anyone dressed like this where I live (South Coast City)

Well if you stick an entire generation in strict school uniform from the age of 4 they're never going to have a chance to evolve their personal sense of style 🤷

I'd love for tops with elbow length sleeves and drapey bits to come back. Had a few tops like that and they reminded me of the 18th century. Must have been a micro trend though.

Hard agree. I had to wear school uniform but we could wear jewellery and make up, whatever coat we liked, etc. No one was checking what socks we wore either!

Yes, you could style your tie however you liked. Thin, fat, threads pulled out in stripes… not anymore ☹️

lynnebenfieldshandbag · 20/10/2025 19:43

How about we stop telling “ladies” what not to wear?

Soonenough · 20/10/2025 19:46

@OSU I think we are neighbours, especially the baseball cap with blonde ponytails through the gap . Airpods and designer sunglasses an added option .

Only the boys wore ties at my school.
Thin side and as short as they could possibly make it. Sometimes it was essentially the knot with a millimetre of tie poking out 😂

I’m so old that I still wear trainer socks as the conditioning that socks pulled up is ‘nerdy’ won’t let go of me!!! I realise I’m not in fashion but don’t care. I think it looks alright on the people who wear it.

The only trend that actively bothers me is when people wear those capes that you’re meant to put on after outdoor swimming on the high street or in the supermarket miles from open water. I can’t explain why but I don’t like it

I do go open water swimming every Sunday but it's also a great dog walking coat. How many coats do you need me to buy to not annoy the fashion police?

I went to a city office with young creatives last week and they wore different variations of this trend. Some wore cropped wide legged trousers or midi skirt, ankle sports socks with loafers. Others wore trousers, coloured ankle socks, shirt French tucked with a slouchy jumper. So even though it thrown together & wasn't an obvious uniform, it was iyswim.

harveythehorse · 21/10/2025 04:42

Vroomfondleswaistcoat · 20/10/2025 10:57

Round us it's a horse rider's uniform. Riding leggings and long socks - they take their boots off and stick on a pair of clogs or slip on shoes to go out shopping. Boots back on when they get in and back up on the horses.

So I didn't even realise that this was an actual 'look'. Here, it's just practical. Probably explains why I'm so unfashionable!

I didn't realise this was at all fashionable - it's my day to day look (although normally stinking trainers rather than slip on shoes or clogs). Hurrah, am FINALLY cool at 44.

Personally though, if I'm doing exercise I love the pulled up white sock look as it keeps my ankles warm. Mind you, I rarely have any pairs of white socks as DD steals them so am generally in patterned socks which I think robs me of any 'coolness'.

Punching down on young people is a sure sign of insecurity and rather sad in a mature adult. Do share with the thread all the fantastic style you wore as a teen and what a fashion icon you were.

Creepy AF.

It was an observation nothing more than that.

Unless people walk around with their eyes closed you can't help see teens coming out of their schools at the end of the day 🤔
I collect my daughter from her school and walk past a bus stop that will have dozens of teens from the nearby other 3 schools.
I'd close my eyes but I don't want to walk into a wall or get run over by a bus 😂

Do loosen up a bit. Even my teenagers laugh about teenager fashions, even the ones they choose to follow Grin

I don't think it's punching down when most of us are probably old and wrinkly and very much not fashionable (even those who think they are). It's just finding life and people amusing.
