Omg! Amazon driver just tried to come into my house!!!

So I’m sat at home, on my own, reading.
Suddenly my front door is VERY forcibly trying to be opened, it made a huge racket and I immediately thought someone was trying to break in!
The door wasn’t locked, but thankfully I have a child safety latch on the door, which I always use.
I go to the door and can see through the glass it’s an Amazon delivery man.
I open the door, and ask what the hell he is doing, trying to get into my house.
He replies he does it all the time, and it’s my fault as my settings on Amazon say front door/porch.
I am fuming at this point, and tell him it’s totally unacceptable, I’m at home alone, and never have I had someone try to enter my house before to deliver a parcel!
After a few more choice words from me, he gives me the parcel and says he will be reporting ME!
Obviously I immediately reported it to Amazon, who are taking it very seriously.
As I said to them, I’m an assertive person who can stand up for themselves, what if the homeowner had been someone more vulnerable?
So am I being unreasonable to expect that delivery men DONT try to access your property?!

It depends.

Does the front door lead to a porch and is that what you have in your delivery details?

TeaAndTattoos · 11/10/2025 17:54

Had this happen to me a couple of times people think the front door is a porch door and get a shock when it opens straight into my living room and the dog goes racing to the door barking. They very quickly close the door drop the parcel and run.

Nope, no porch, just a front door.

The guy thought he was entering a porch.
I think you need to chill.

nosmokinggun · 11/10/2025 17:57

he thought it was a porch.
lock your door.

35965a · 11/10/2025 17:57

Lock your door 🤷‍♀️ he thought it was a porch maybe. No point being dramatic about it.

Littletreefrog · 11/10/2025 17:57

If the delivery instructions say front door/porch that would indicate you want him to open the front door and put the parcel just inside. If you don't want delivery drivers to try the door I would change your delivery settings.

Agreed. He thought he was opening an outer door to the porch, hence his telling you about the instructions on his delivery.

IndoorVoice · 11/10/2025 17:58

Do your delivery details mention a porch though? Is it possible that he thought the porch must be inside the door if there’s not one outside it?

Again, I don’t have a porch, he definitely didn’t think it was a porch as it’s quite clearly a front door.
And I definitely don’t need to “chill”, a complete stranger tried to walk into my house, when I’m at home alone.

Lock your door (why the hell wouldn't you??).
Change your settings.

Realise this is you creating the situation. Not him.

Get a grip! Dramatic nonsense.

But if your delivery instructions were front door/porch as he said then he was still doing what he was told. Some people do want delivery people to just pop things inside the front door. For instance those who don't have a porch. Have you checked what your delivery instructions actually say.

DavidKeanu · 11/10/2025 18:04

You can't leave the door unlocked AND complain when someone comes through it 🤣

SlashBeef · 11/10/2025 18:04

You've said yourself "front door/porch" so he obviously thought he was going into a porch.
Lock your flippin door, especially if you're going to be so dramatic about being home alone.

Me too.

DarkForces · 11/10/2025 18:04

If you've asked them to drop into your house how are they expected to do this without opening the door? Your instructions literally tell them to. Update the instructions and lock your door.

ColadhSamh · 11/10/2025 18:05

If your posting style is an indication of how you spoke to him it's not assertive but aggressive.
The delivery driver was doing you a favour. If you don't want your door opened then turn the key. Following his explanation you still put in a complaint?

SandrenaIsMyBloodType · 11/10/2025 18:07

I had this happen. It was Amazon. My front door is glass and so it is impossible to mistakenly think that it is a porch. I also jumped out of my skin. I don’t think I made enough fuss (or any really). I was so shocked

DoOneBetty · 11/10/2025 18:08

My sister has a large vestibule, Edwardian house, so a front door but with an internal area which has another locked front door. Your instructions on your delivery say front door/porch so he thought he could open the door.

Get the instructions changed in your settings.

Owly11 · 11/10/2025 18:08

Change your settings. If you don’t have a safe space then say so then he will knock next time. And you can’t always tell whether a door is a front door or a porch door - they can and do look exactly the same.

As I said, I have a child safety latch which I always use, which meant he couldn’t enter.
I order a lot of Amazon, the delivery drivers always knock or use my ring doorbell.
Not one has ever tried to open my front door first!

  1. He didn't come into your house.
  2. He tried the door to leave a parcel,
he didn't try to break in.

My porch door is usually open but door closed. Am glad the amazon driver opens the porch door and leaves parcel there, saves me getting up! But I realise not everyone would like this. However, the situation you describe doesn't warrant your reaction and their drivers are always under pressure with delivery times and you complaining didn't help. Keep your door closed and update your delivery details.
