Omg! Amazon driver just tried to come into my house!!!

So I’m sat at home, on my own, reading.
Suddenly my front door is VERY forcibly trying to be opened, it made a huge racket and I immediately thought someone was trying to break in!
The door wasn’t locked, but thankfully I have a child safety latch on the door, which I always use.
I go to the door and can see through the glass it’s an Amazon delivery man.
I open the door, and ask what the hell he is doing, trying to get into my house.
He replies he does it all the time, and it’s my fault as my settings on Amazon say front door/porch.
I am fuming at this point, and tell him it’s totally unacceptable, I’m at home alone, and never have I had someone try to enter my house before to deliver a parcel!
After a few more choice words from me, he gives me the parcel and says he will be reporting ME!
Obviously I immediately reported it to Amazon, who are taking it very seriously.
As I said to them, I’m an assertive person who can stand up for themselves, what if the homeowner had been someone more vulnerable?
So am I being unreasonable to expect that delivery men DONT try to access your property?!

I don’t understand why people are blaming the OP.

  • her instructions say leave outside the door
  • there is no porch
  • the door was shut
  • the child latch was on

Why are we trying to say that it’s normal for someone to forcibly walk into her house?

Of course that isn’t on. Of course no one should try to get into our houses. Of course she’s upset.

Come on, is our collective view of privacy and decency so low that this is considered ok?!

Edited

Thank you!!!!!!!

But if the driver is being truthful his instructions mention a porch.
It’s not lack of reading.

THERE IS NO PORCH!

Well if Amazon are taking it so very seriously, why do you need all of us too?

Poor guy. His job is not to know the configuration of the room behind every glass door in the country - now that would be creepy. His job is to follow the delivery instructions which said front door/porch ie. open the first door and leave just inside under shelter. That's what he was trying to do.

Lots of delivery folk won't ring the bell first, as that takes a lot longer, and also risks disturbing the occupant, who may be working from home, or have a sleeping baby, or may just be a batshit or aggressive. As you illustrate.

Check and change the instruction note for your address. Or leave a note on your front door.

In rural areas, with often inclement weather, trusting couriers to quietly open a door and leave parcels inside is one of the small joys which makes life so much easier. Don't ruin it for the rest of us.

You can't leave the door unlocked AND complain when someone comes through it 🤣

Spot on!

Petitchat · 11/10/2025 18:45

TheDenimPoet · 11/10/2025 18:32

That's probably because your delivery instructions don't tell them to, whereas OP's do.

No they don't??

Ilovemychocolate · 11/10/2025 18:45

Greggsit · 11/10/2025 18:36

I get deliveries inside my door all the time. From the post woman, DHL, dpd, etc. They all open the door and place the package inside and then close the door. None of them actually enter the house to do it. It's very convenient.

So I think your insistance that he was forcibly trying to enter your house is a bit much.

Well you weren’t here were you?
You didn’t hear the noise, you didn’t see his belligerent attitude afterwards, you obviously have no empathy for how it made me feel, that a man tried to access my house, my safe space, without knocking, to deliver a bloody toaster!

Why what did I miss? I did read it.

It's mumsnet, it's absolutely lack of reading. If the driver is being truthful it means OP is telling porkies.

Interestingly on my amazon account it doesn't even give porch as an option to leave a parcel (I uploaded a screenshot on my previous post)

Maybe yours shows different? However I'm assuming it's the delivery driver being untruthful, not OP

Annettefromthenewsagents · 11/10/2025 18:47

Op I was sticking up for you. My chain advice was general not aimed at you.

Ilovemychocolate · 11/10/2025 18:08

As I said, I have a child safety latch which I always use, which meant he couldn’t enter.
I order a lot of Amazon, the delivery drivers always knock or use my ring doorbell.
Not one has ever tried to open my front door first!

This is what they are supposed to do. He was being lazy/ trying to drop and run without thinking.

Tunisia2025 · 11/10/2025 18:48

What the actual fuck am I reading?????

A stranger tried to walk into the OP's house and THE OP is getting the blame..

Words fail me 🤦‍♀️ People on this site are insane

menopausalfart · 11/10/2025 18:50

My dog would have eaten his face, What a stupid thing to do.

Figcherry · 11/10/2025 18:43

BUT HE THOUGHT THERE WAS!

Really?
So he comes to my house, he sees a front door.
He invents the porch in his mind does he?
Then he looks at his delivery instructions…if homeowner not in, leave outside front door/porch.
He doesn’t bother to check I’m in, by the age old system of, you know, knocking, oh no.
He just tries to enter my home.
Through the front door.
But that’s ok yeah?

I think Amazon drivers have enough on their plate tbh and unless something drastic happens I tend to give them the benefit of the doubt.

He's probably so used to opening doors to pop parcels inside that he tried the door without thinking.

I’m gobsmacked that in todays day and age people are leaving their front/back door unlocked!

No he didn't, he tried to deliver a parcel.

Honestly, the hysteria here is ridiculous.

I think I’m going insane reading these replies!
I am going to have a large glass of wine, watch a bit of Netflix, and try to forget that I posted this on here, hoping other (mainly) women would appreciate how it might shake me up, and may provide a bit of empathy and reassurance 😂
But thank you very much for your reply xxxx

Was your door closed? I know it wasn’t locked and that you had child safety engaged, but was it closed? I think I’d probably forgive a driver for mistaking a door for a porch if it looked ajar. I can imagine it shook you up though, it would have made a racket when he tried to push the door open and hit the child safety. I’m not surprised you’re a bit shaken, but I do think the unpleasantness of it may be clouding your view a bit.

OP posts:
Stravaig · 11/10/2025 18:54

For those bellowing 'there is no porch', how tf is anyone outside supposed to know that?

For many of us, a porch is the first room after you enter the home through the outer front door - the anteroom, the area where you take off your outer clothes and shoes, and park your bikes, and wipe the dogs paws, and put down the shopping bags while you unlock the inner front door. It is not always possible to tell from the outside if someone has an inner as well as an outer front door, with a porch in between.

A postie will be looking to leave your parcel under shelter and out of sight. Often that is behind the first door, in a porch.

Are you quite ok? Of course leaving your door unlocked doesn't give anyone permission to come in!

Agree. Talk about turning a molehill into a mountain.

I honestly don't know how some people get through the day when every minor irritation is escalated so much. So. Much. Drama.

What have I just read…….
A complete stranger is allowed to, before even knocking or ringing a door bell, to try an open a front door to enter a private residence. Are you f’ing serious…..just because that’s what he always does…….makes no difference if the door is locked or not…nobody has a right to your private property, house…car….garden or anything……whether it’s secured or not.
