Omg! Amazon driver just tried to come into my house!!!

So I’m sat at home, on my own, reading.
Suddenly my front door is VERY forcibly trying to be opened, it made a huge racket and I immediately thought someone was trying to break in!
The door wasn’t locked, but thankfully I have a child safety latch on the door, which I always use.
I go to the door and can see through the glass it’s an Amazon delivery man.
I open the door, and ask what the hell he is doing, trying to get into my house.
He replies he does it all the time, and it’s my fault as my settings on Amazon say front door/porch.
I am fuming at this point, and tell him it’s totally unacceptable, I’m at home alone, and never have I had someone try to enter my house before to deliver a parcel!
After a few more choice words from me, he gives me the parcel and says he will be reporting ME!
Obviously I immediately reported it to Amazon, who are taking it very seriously.
As I said to them, I’m an assertive person who can stand up for themselves, what if the homeowner had been someone more vulnerable?
So am I being unreasonable to expect that delivery men DONT try to access your property?!

Why don’t people lock their doors?

Please read my original post.
My door does not need to be locked, as I said I have a child safety latch at the top of the door, which is ALWAYS engaged as I’m a childminder, so I do it automatically whether I have children or not.

Again, I don’t have a porch, he definitely didn’t think it was a porch as it’s quite clearly a front door.
And I definitely don’t need to “chill”, a complete stranger tried to walk into my house, when I’m at home alone.

He's not a "complete stranger" as such. He's a delivery man who's come to deliver a parcel that you ordered, trying to follow the instructions that you gave.

This really isn't his fault.

Keep your door locked in future.

igotbills · 11/10/2025 18:31

Ilovemychocolate · 11/10/2025 18:25

Poor guy?
My instructions say to leave outside front door.
Once I answered the door, and asked why he tried to enter my property, he immediately became belligerent and said he would report me!
So I have zero sympathy for him.
I am a woman at home, alone, a man trying to force my door open to deliver a package, without even knocking first, you can’t see how incredibly unsettling that is?
And just to reiterate, Amazon have confirmed that delivery people are not allowed to try to open the door.

Cross posted. So OP confirms her delivery instructions say NOTHING about a porch.

As it's mumsnet and nobody bothers to read properly, how many more posters will come along and regurgitate, "but op why tell delivery drivers to deliver to your porch"?

(and even if you did, they should have 10000% knocked first and not try to break through the bloody chain)

Totally with you OP! Glad Amazon are taking this seriously

These replies are mental! I've never known a postman try to enter my house, definitely not normal

That's probably because your delivery instructions don't tell them to, whereas OP's do.

Why do you find it amusing?
That would have really shook me up all day and probably others like me.

He was rude, ignorant and there was absolutely no need for it.

Women have had to put up with a lot these last few years.
Called transphobes for not wanting men in our spaces.
Women being injured in sports.
Called racist for joining 150,000 others in a march.

And now having delivery men trying to waltz in through the front door!

And there's always some women who don't care about other women and encourage these men!

Thank you!!!!
The lack of sympathy has surprised me!
I am very able to stand up for myself, but the fact he tried to open my door, then was belligerent when I called him out on it, the audacity!
Also I was in my dressing gown, not ideal 😂

I've had this happen too and I agree it is very unnerving. I always lock the front door but my husband had popped out to the corner shop and hadn't locked it behind him. I heard the door open and assumed it was him coming back, said hello and the delivery driver stuck his head round the kitchen door and said hi back! No harm done but I was pretty cross at both him and my husband.

I think OP's acting completely normal.
Insufferable for being upset and annoyed that a stranger tried to enter her house?

Ghastly? 🤣 🤣

That’s your fault For not locking your door. Doubtful he’d have walked in. The Hermes driver just opens my door and pops the parcel through without entering. Amazon always knocks. So it would be wortH changing your delivery instructions anyway to avoid any more misunderstandings.

igotbills · 11/10/2025 18:33

OP has confirmed the delivery instructions were leave outside of front door :)

THEY DONT!
They say leave OUTSIDE the front door!!!

I think you are getting a bit carried away now - transpeople, women in sports and marches have got absolutely nothing to do with an amazon driver trying to deliver a parcel.

GoldBalonz · 11/10/2025 18:34

Ilovemychocolate · 11/10/2025 18:27

Don’t worry, I’m like a dog with a bone when complaining, I have asked for follow up feedback about my complaint, and will chase it.
Of course I don’t want him to lose his job, I want him educating that it’s not ok to open peoples doors.

Bless you. You have zero idea how complaints work.

I'll save you a job and give you your 'follow up feedback' now...
'Oh yes Mrs X, we take these matters incredibly seriously. I can assure you that your feedback has been recorded and the manager of the staff member fully updated so that refresher training can be conducted'.

😂

They won't give you any actual, real details or update. It relates to a staff member.

Reading is boring I know, but OP has confirmed her delivery instructions don't mention any porch

WeirdyBeardyMarrowBabyLady · 11/10/2025 18:36

If you’re as disturbed by this as your posts suggest it’s truly baffling that you don’t lock your door when you’re at home.

INeedAnotherName · 11/10/2025 18:36

Ilovemychocolate · 11/10/2025 18:08

As I said, I have a child safety latch which I always use, which meant he couldn’t enter.
I order a lot of Amazon, the delivery drivers always knock or use my ring doorbell.
Not one has ever tried to open my front door first!

I thought a child lock was to prevent a child leaving your house . Try locking the door. Have you changed your settings yet?

Edit - agree with pp, this thread has been done before. Think it got deleted because the op was a troll but who knows... some people really do think burglars and other shifty characters will never try their unlocked doors 🙄

Again!!!!
Door didn’t need locking, latch was on.
He didn’t try to knock, he just tried the door, very forcibly.
And the point is, I didn’t know it was Amazon initially, he was so forceful I thought someone was trying to break into my house.

Greggsit · 11/10/2025 18:36

I get deliveries inside my door all the time. From the post woman, DHL, dpd, etc. They all open the door and place the package inside and then close the door. None of them actually enter the house to do it. It's very convenient.

So I think your insistance that he was forcibly trying to enter your house is a bit much.

Petitchat · 11/10/2025 18:38

GoldBalonz · 11/10/2025 18:22

who are taking it very seriously

They're really not op 😂

They've given you a standard spiel, the one that they give to every one of the moaners that phones up to report that the delivery man has tried their door/thrown their fragile parcel over the fence/scared their dog/left their gate open/spoken rudely/didn't leave a card/didn't actually try to deliver etc.

The delivery man won't even hear about this most likely 😂

Another one finding it amusing.
I remember the days when posters (especially women) used to support each other over this type of concern.

igotbills · 11/10/2025 18:35

But if the driver is being truthful his instructions mention a porch.
It’s not lack of reading.

Sounds like a mistake but not really a mistake to play roulette with despite the fawning ‘everyone’s lovely’ on here. Always have a chain lock or keep it locked.

You can't leave the door unlocked AND complain when someone comes through it 🤣

Yes you can, an unlocked door isn't an invitation. Whatever happened to knocking or chapping the letterbox? Of course it's not ok to just walk into someone's house. He maybe thought it was a porch but he didn't know it was, he should have knocked first.

SoftPillow · 11/10/2025 18:40

I don’t understand why people are blaming the OP.

  • her instructions say leave outside the door
  • there is no porch
  • the door was shut
  • the child latch was on

Why are we trying to say that it’s normal for someone to forcibly walk into her house?

Of course that isn’t on. Of course no one should try to get into our houses. Of course she’s upset.

Come on, is our collective view of privacy and decency so low that this is considered ok?!
