Omg! Amazon driver just tried to come into my house!!!

So I’m sat at home, on my own, reading.
Suddenly my front door is VERY forcibly trying to be opened, it made a huge racket and I immediately thought someone was trying to break in!
The door wasn’t locked, but thankfully I have a child safety latch on the door, which I always use.
I go to the door and can see through the glass it’s an Amazon delivery man.
I open the door, and ask what the hell he is doing, trying to get into my house.
He replies he does it all the time, and it’s my fault as my settings on Amazon say front door/porch.
I am fuming at this point, and tell him it’s totally unacceptable, I’m at home alone, and never have I had someone try to enter my house before to deliver a parcel!
After a few more choice words from me, he gives me the parcel and says he will be reporting ME!
Obviously I immediately reported it to Amazon, who are taking it very seriously.
As I said to them, I’m an assertive person who can stand up for themselves, what if the homeowner had been someone more vulnerable?
So am I being unreasonable to expect that delivery men DONT try to access your property?!

As I said, I have a child safety latch which I always use, which meant he couldn’t enter.
I order a lot of Amazon, the delivery drivers always knock or use my ring doorbell.
Not one has ever tried to open my front door first!

But what do your delivery instructions say? Mine say leave in porch. Some ring the bell and when we don't answer leave in porch, some leave in porch without even trying the bell. If your delivery instructions say front door/porch I think it was very unfair to give him a hard time.

igotbills · 11/10/2025 18:11

These replies are mental! I've never known a postman try to enter my house, definitely not normal

Bamboozles · 11/10/2025 18:11

Chill (and lock your door)!
what did you think he was going to do? 😃

It wasn't a postman. If the delivery instructions say to leave in front door/porch it is very normal and very handy.

  1. He didn't come into your house.
  2. He tried the door to leave a parcel,
he didn't try to break in.

My porch door is usually open but door closed. Am glad the amazon driver opens the porch door and leaves parcel there, saves me getting up! But I realise not everyone would like this. However, the situation you describe doesn't warrant your reaction and their drivers are always under pressure with delivery times and you complaining didn't help. Keep your door closed and update your delivery details.

He didn’t knock, he didn’t use my doorbell, he tried very forcibly to enter my property, using such force that I thought someone was trying to break in.
You can’t see that it was very unsettling for me, as a woman at home alone?
A complete stranger trying to enter my house?
Thankfully Amazon have taken it a lot more seriously, and are starting a formal complaint process against the driver.

Get a grip! Dramatic nonsense.

You could have locked the door.

DavidKeanu · 11/10/2025 18:04

You can't leave the door unlocked AND complain when someone comes through it 🤣

Er yes you can. Did he even knock? Front door means leave it at the front door or porch obviously there wasnt a porch so delivery instructions mean front door. None of the options are try and open my front door and walk uninvited into my house.

Finally!
Thanks so much for your comment, it really shook me up!
I order from Amazon all the time, I’ve never had anyone try to open my door before, and with such force!

It shouldn't say front door/porch as obviously he thinks your front door is a porch. Honestly I don't think he's trying to beat you to death, he's far too busy slaving around getting his parcel delivery count in.

Comeonbabylightmyfire · 11/10/2025 18:16

I love it when people put OMG in the title, very daily wail serious face.

Same with windows! I always take an open window as an invite

I'm glad you mentioned that it could have been someone more vulnerable because that would have been me.
I'm disabled, long term ill health and would have been scared to death if my DH wasn't here!

That's just NOT on and I've never encountered it.

Again, I don’t have a porch, he definitely didn’t think it was a porch as it’s quite clearly a front door.
And I definitely don’t need to “chill”, a complete stranger tried to walk into my house, when I’m at home alone.

I don't understand this? My porch is behind my normal looking front door, then we have a 2nd external door into he house, so how is a delivery driver supposed to know it isn't a porch when that is what it says on your delivery instructions? It probably only sounded loud as he opened the door normally not expecting to hit a chain

Poor Guy. So he'll probably lose his job. Sorry @Ilovemychocolate but you need to redo your Safe place instructions.

I understand why you got a fright, really I do, but from what you said it seems clear that your instructions were very confusing - so not entirely his fault.

stichguru · 11/10/2025 18:18

Front door/porch to me means "open a door and leave it at the next door". If you don't want the delivery driver to open your a door, then change it to "leave outside front door".

SandrenaIsMyBloodType · 11/10/2025 18:07

I had this happen. It was Amazon. My front door is glass and so it is impossible to mistakenly think that it is a porch. I also jumped out of my skin. I don’t think I made enough fuss (or any really). I was so shocked

It’s so scary isn’t it?
He didn’t even knock, or use my doorbell.
I obviously didn’t know it was Amazon initially, I was sitting in silence reading so it gave me a massive scare!
Amazon have been really pro active and took it very seriously, they said no delivery driver should ever try to open a front door, a porch is obviously different,
And my delivery instructions say leave OUTSIDE the front door, not try to open the bloody door!

Why don’t people lock their doors?

GoldBalonz · 11/10/2025 18:22

who are taking it very seriously

They're really not op 😂

They've given you a standard spiel, the one that they give to every one of the moaners that phones up to report that the delivery man has tried their door/thrown their fragile parcel over the fence/scared their dog/left their gate open/spoken rudely/didn't leave a card/didn't actually try to deliver etc.

The delivery man won't even hear about this most likely 😂

igotbills · 11/10/2025 18:22

On my amazon account it doesn't even have the option for porch.. may be different on somebody else's but @Ilovemychocolate it's definitely worth checking is your delivery preference actually says door/porch

My instructions say to leave outside front door.
Once I answered the door, and asked why he tried to enter my property, he immediately became belligerent and said he would report me!
So I have zero sympathy for him.
I am a woman at home, alone, a man trying to force my door open to deliver a package, without even knocking first, you can’t see how incredibly unsettling that is?
And just to reiterate, Amazon have confirmed that delivery people are not allowed to try to open the door.

OP posts:
cobrakaieaglefang · 11/10/2025 18:25

My bedroom window identifies as a front door or porch apparently..usually they try to deliver through a inch gap that the window latches..

Don’t worry, I’m like a dog with a bone when complaining, I have asked for follow up feedback about my complaint, and will chase it.
Of course I don’t want him to lose his job, I want him educating that it’s not ok to open peoples doors.

Chill (and lock your door)!
what did you think he was going to do? 😃

Why do you find it amusing?
That would have really shook me up all day and probably others like me.

He was rude, ignorant and there was absolutely no need for it.

Women have had to put up with a lot these last few years.
Called transphobes for not wanting men in our spaces.
Women being injured in sports.
Called racist for joining 150,000 others in a march.

And now having delivery men trying to waltz in through the front door!

And there's always some women who don't care about other women and encourage these men!
