Overheard an older couple of Caribbean couple talking about the Manchester attack on the train earlier and one of them used this phrase. Someone else (who was getting off at the time) shouted at them “You can’t say that! It’s hate speech!” I didn’t get involved. Was it hate speech?

I am a (brown) immigrant to the UK, albeit from another western country. For me, gaining British citizenship was an honour and I feel immense gratitude for the opportunities I have had here. Perhaps as a result of this, I feel absolute rage with immigrants who don't adopt what I feel are core British values about tolerance and equality (I know not all British people are like that, but that is another matter). If you want to blow up a synagogue or a mosque, marry a child, carry out an honour killing, etc. then you can fuck off. And frankly I feel the same about generations of families living here where only the school aged members speak English.

You might not fight for the Royals, but if Nazism abroad was on the rise would you fight against that? And if so, what exactly would you think you were fighting to preserve?

Religious tolerance is a very hard won British value and supremely important and we should be rightly proud of it. Any infringement or refusal to accept religious tolerance is actually threatening to others and should not (ironically) be tolerated.

It’s not hard. I look at their allegiances through posts, words and their actions. If they literally talk rubbish about Britain then it is clear they hate Britain. You bring up “ALL Muslims?” That is something you have brought up, I never said that. I’m south Asian myself, Indian, and have experienced racism for decades. So I don’t discriminate against people for their faith and appearance. I do, however, distance myself from anyone with harmful beliefs towards a country (Britain) that has given them a home. There’s far too many assumptions in your post.

I think we need to be honest about a difficult reality…many parts of the world hold values and societal norms that are fundamentally incompatible with those of the UK. I would love to believe that every human being is inherently good, but that simply isn’t true. In far too many societies, practices like child marriage and the routine abuse of women are not just tolerated but normalised. These views are upheld, not by fringe extremists, but by ordinary people.

It is not acceptable for those attitudes to be imported here. We have fought too hard and come too far in terms of women’s rights to allow misogynistic norms to take root in our society. Men who have been socialised in environments where violence and subjugation of women are everyday realities should not be given free rein to bring those mindsets into this country.

I say this as a British Sikh woman. I am not islamaphobic nor am I seeking approval by appeasing anyone (as I am often accused of when I share my views online).

And quite frankly, I am tired of the middle class tendency to posture and virtue signal under the guise of compassion. This superficial moralism may make some people feel enlightened, but it does nothing to protect women.

This is so based! I find it remarkable that coming from a culture where my modern views would be frowned upon (Indian Hindu), there are women here in England telling me to shut up about issues (coming from my demographic) that would affect England.

Hey, I've got no skin in the game, but I do object to whole swathes of normal people with legitimate concerns on immigration being branded abhorrent names. In case you care to extend your virtue signalling to poorly educated people (they are also humans you know?Many of whom work very hard in jobs you and your white collar chums wouldn't want ) the way to describe their education status would be "poorly educated" : or is "thick" ok because they're not you're intended virtue signal receiver? Bet you're a lot more 'careful' how you speak then ?

Most people hoping to move to the UK will want to make a good life here, and won't come here intending harm. So how can you differentiate?

Firstly, we don’t import people. They aren’t goods.
Secondly, how could you possibly police that. Unless what you really mean is “we should stop letting Muslims in”. In which case, piss off.

That’s all well and good…

Except even when people show is that they hate Britain, we still let them stay. We absolutely can police these things after they’re brought to our attention.

Instead, we refuse to deport criminals and give them suspended sentences for violent crimes. Like the father of the synagogue terrors it who was spouting antiseptic views and advocating violence.
