People who wear winter coats now aren’t going to feel the benefits of coat when it’s a lot colder

It’s 16c today and see many people wearing padded/quilted coats now. They are going to feel colder wearing this when it’s 6c max.
I doubt it’s about cost.

It will still keep them warm.

They might have a thicker coat?

Why are you bothered what coats other people wear? They probably layer up more when it's colder.

You feel the benefit at any temperature.

Different people feel the cold differently. In the winter people who feel the cold will layer up more under their coat/ wear thicker jumpers or thermals.

Layers are your friend.

Many people would wear more layers under their coat when it’s colder.

some people who don’t feel the cold, see it as some great achievement of theirs and have a superiority complex over those who do get cold. I find it such a strange thing to be proud of!

I’m absolutely freezing now (I run cold generally) so I’m wearing a winter coat, but I have another, thicker coat so I don’t see the problem. We’re all different.

Everyone is different and some people feel the cold a lot more. I’m the other way around and usually only wear a coat from November - February. With the way perimenopause is going I might not need to wear one at all this winter! But it’s no one else’s business when or where I wear a coat and vice versa.

So I should be cold now, so I feel fractionally less cold at some hypothetical point in the future?

I wore a light winter coat today. When it’s really cold, I’ll get my Didrikson out - it’s so warm, I hardly ever need to do it up and I certainly can’t go shopping in it.

When it’s colder, I will be cold anyway and will wear extra layers under the coat. It’s nice when it’s not so cold that a coat properly works.

I never wear a coat and nearly always wear a short sleeved top even in winter and people comment on it all time - to the point where I feel like I’m always talking about how I don’t wear a coat.

It’s them that bring it up, though, not me!

No ill have acclimatised by actual winter. But it's suddenly dropped 15 degrees and I'm bloody freezing.

I think this is a myth.

I wear either a t shirt and jumper or t shirt and thick coat right now. When it gets colder it will be t shirt, jumper and coat. When it gets even colder I’ll add a thermal vest. Layers darling, layers

Tbh we all have two coats each - a lighter one to cover rain with a bit of padding. And then warmer coats for when the mornings are icy…

I saw a woman in an ankle length quilted coat and a knitted bobble hat yesterday. It was very strange. It was really warm here and a lot of people were in t shirts.
