People who wear winter coats now aren’t going to feel the benefits of coat when it’s a lot colder

It’s 16c today and see many people wearing padded/quilted coats now. They are going to feel colder wearing this when it’s 6c max.
I doubt it’s about cost.

Why are some people so invested in what others wear? Confused

Mid 50s here... I don't feel the cold much. It's just the way I am. My DH does, and so do my 2 (late 20-something) DC. I don't. I'm not proud of it, I'm not ashamed of it. I don't wear it like a 'badge of honour!' I just don't feel the cold much.

Every bloody year - through Autumn and Winter - I get annoying, nosey, and intrusive people (95% women between 10 years younger than me and 20-30 years older,) telling me I 'need to wrap up better' and asking me why on earth I am not wearing a coat. I'm like Confused 'and you are............?' I will only wrap up/wear a coat when it drops belows 6-7 degrees C.

I get stares and frowns and head shakes from random women, shuddering because I have a short sleeved t-shirt on, and no cardigan or coat! It's October-November, but it's when it's 15-18 degrees C. It's not cold. I am not cold. I don't need 4 or 5 flippin' layers when it's 18 degrees C Margaret!

I swing from saying 'I'm fine thanks, I'm not cold' - and just ignoring them. One woman pointed at me like I was some kind of circus act last year when me and DH were visiting a castle, and walking outside in the grounds..... It was 18 degrees C (late September,) and overcast but dry.... She shouted 'OH MY GOODNESS, why on EARTH have you not got a coat on?!' I had a short sleeved red top on, and jeans. I rolled my eyes and ignored her. (She was about 15 years older than me.) Like, I'm not a fucking child. And actually, who are you, and WHY are you barking at me and telling me I need a coat on?! Confused

DH seemed a bit embarrassed that I'd ignored her. He said 'sorry, my wife just doesn't feel the cold much...' She said 'well she should wrap up better.' I snapped and said to DH 'why the fuck are you explaining anything to this random woman?! And talking about me like I'm a fucking child?!' Hmm

DH was like Confused I stormed off. Not my finest moment I know, but I am so sick of the opinions of random women on how I dress. Women I don't even know! When DH caught up with me, I said 'don't fucking speak for me again. I don't owe some random woman an explanation as to why I am not wearing a coat in September when it's 18 degrees C.' He said 'fuck me, OK then. You could have answered her though.' I said 'no I couldn't. I don't owe some random a fucking response when they're poking at what I'm wearing!'

Bit of a rant there sorry. 😆 This just really pisses me off when people have opinions on what I wear. Even when I was much younger/late teens and in my 20s, I had random women 20+ years older than me telling me my skirt was too short, and I needed to show less cleavage. #jealous 😆

I have worn my padded coat a few times. But I also have much thicker coats too.
Rven once I wear my thickest down coat, at first it will be without thermals or a fleece under. By the time we reach -10 (rural Scotland), I’ll be in thermals fleece and thickest coat.

I’m not even wearing a jumper, it’s too warm in the south. A light cotton shirt does me fine.

clipboardz · 27/09/2025 15:21

perhaps they layer up when it gets colder or have a warmer jacket.

So I’m supposed to get thoroughly chilled and unwell rather than put a coat on when it’s 11° like this morning or I won’t feel the benefit when it’s colder?
Bloody ridiculous.
I feel the cold because of health issues, never in my 71 years have I read such baloney. By your reckoning OP I shouldn’t wear a waterproof unless it’s monsoon conditions or I won’t benefit from that either?
I certainly don’t need to be told, like the majority of people on here, what to wear!
