To think ‘most people’ don’t get their windows cleaned this often?

Disagreement in our house today. Do ‘most people’ (which after some discussion was pinned down to people in 30s/40s in eg 3 bed semi with a kid or two 😅) have their windows cleaned every 6-8 weeks?

YABU - of course they do
YANBU - definitely not ‘most’

Outside of ours have never been done since they were fitted 7 years ago. I keep meaning to organise a cleaner but they look alright to be honest so it's not a priority.

MyElatedUmberFinch · 08/09/2025 18:20

YABU

GonnaeNoDaeThatJustGonnaeNo · 08/09/2025 18:21

Ours are cleaned every 2 weeks in the summer and monthly in winter

Bolognesdiva · 08/09/2025 18:21

We don’t have a window cleaner - DH does it outside about every 6 months - we did do when the kids were tiny and life wasn’t as expensive as it is now

Blissker · 08/09/2025 18:21

Window cleaners come every month or every other month. I think most people will have a window cleaner so most people have them cleaned at least every couple of months.

NoCommentingFromNowOn · 08/09/2025 18:21

This is what rain is for isn’t it? 🤔

SquigglePigs · 08/09/2025 18:22

Ours are done every 2 months. Our cleaners offered monthly or bi-monthly. We back onto woods so the back windows always look ready for a clean when they come but I can't stomach paying that much every month so am stubbornly sticking to 8 weeks.

PronounPenisMan · 08/09/2025 18:22

I’ve lived here 13 years and I think we’ve had the windows cleaned about 4 times. I do clean the insides when I’m deep cleaning the rooms.

Chasingsquirrels · 08/09/2025 18:23

I had new windows in Nov 2022. They've been cleaned no more than 3 times since then.

BretonStripe · 08/09/2025 18:23

Every other month here, but live on a busy main road so they get filthy quickly. And out the back is my snug with gorgeous views and I like the glass to be spotless (I ask our cleaner to do the insides of this room the same week window cleaner has been).

If you can afford it then why not I say.

This is the relatable content I’m here for! Anyone else just not have a window cleaner…?

Yep, me.

I do them once I notice they're dirty, as soon (or as not soon) as I can be bothered. Probably once a year ish. Every 3 months would probably be wiser, but I can't be arsed.

I can confirm no one here has suffered any adverse effects from having less than sparkling windows.

Icon15 · 08/09/2025 18:25

I'm know that some people do but I'm not among them. I've always cleaned the windows myself. Admittedly, in the past decade or so I've done it a lot less often (probably only 3 or 4 times in the past 10 years, if that!) and I'm beginning to think about paying someone else to do it now. I'm not getting any younger and just seem to have a lot less energy than I used to.

I think the "every 6-8 weeks" schedule comes from the window cleaning company, rather than the householders. Obviously, they want repeat business and want you to subscribe to a schedule, which is understandable. But I don't think it's necessary to clean them that frequently. About 3 or 4 times a year would be sufficient, imo.

JaninaDuszejko · 08/09/2025 18:25

Our window cleaner comes every 6 weeks but before this house we never used a window cleaner so I'd say most people don't.

TheSoapyFrog · 08/09/2025 18:25

The window cleaner comes round every 6 weeks. I am in my 40s, in a 3 bed semi, and with a couple of kids. We get a lot of birds shitting on the windows, so it's necessary.

Ivyfanclub · 08/09/2025 18:25

About every 2 months. But often we are out and so only the front gets done. So the back only gets done about twice a year and they are filthy by then with rain splashes etc.
I can do the downstairs myself but obviously not upstairs.
I do like looking out of clean windows.

Mutability · 08/09/2025 18:26

Monthly for us.

tuvamoodyson · 08/09/2025 18:26

Monthly.

Pregnancyquestion · 08/09/2025 18:27

Every 6 weeks but I feel like that’s too much. Would be happier to have him every 8-10 weeks but cba to call the window cleaner to reduce

Sunnyscribe · 08/09/2025 18:29

Ive never had my windows cleaned.

myheadsjustmush · 08/09/2025 18:29

Ours whole house is done every 4-6 weeks. It can be longer if the window cleaner forgets is really busy.

1offnamechange · 08/09/2025 18:30

I've had mine done twice in the 9 years I've lived here. Until a week ago it was once but since it's going up for sale thought it would be good for prospective views to be able to see out!

(jokes, they weren't actually that bad at all, I live in Wales so it rains a lot, and I do clean the insides)

How much do people pay for it to be doing it as often as most of you on this thread? A one off clean was £25, for the sake of a few hundred quid a year I'd buy an extendable squeegee and DIY!

Chemenger · 08/09/2025 18:30

We have a window cleaner every month. We’re close to the sea so if it’s stormy the windows get very crusty.

Ihateboris · 08/09/2025 18:30

Sunnyscribe · 08/09/2025 18:29

Ive never had my windows cleaned.

And I bet they look absolutely fine! I've never had mine cleaned and don't intend to

Toomanywaterbottles · 08/09/2025 18:32

Once a year. We do them, but it’s a huge job and takes forever. I never see anyone cleaning windows round here.
