To think ‘most people’ don’t get their windows cleaned this often?

Disagreement in our house today. Do ‘most people’ (which after some discussion was pinned down to people in 30s/40s in eg 3 bed semi with a kid or two 😅) have their windows cleaned every 6-8 weeks?

YABU - of course they do
YANBU - definitely not ‘most’

Every 3 months here

OneNewEagle · 24/03/2026 21:12

Our window cleaner is monthly. I think once every three months would be fine but that’s the only way he will do it. I can’t clean the windows myself due to a disability.

ReyRey12 · 24/03/2026 21:14

I am genuinely shocked by this thread. I've been under the impression that people wash their windows once a year. Twice if they live by a busy road.

I don't understand how people are paying so little. Ours cost £120 and it's 2-3 hour job.

My parents were quoted 600e so they're not having it done every 6-8 weeks 😅
Thankfully I get to do it for free when I visit.

I wasnt aware of this frequent window washing cause we have done it annually. I fo it myself but my bf sometimes has a window cleaner if they visit the neighbour. I googled this and Reddit had few questions about british window cleaning culture. Very interesting thing to learn after so many years in the country. This has never come up.

Yes, mine too and if they do the shutters, an extra £30. I think it's a good deal. They are very careful and wear booties in my home.

ilovepixie · 25/03/2026 07:34

The window cleaner comes Once a month here.

StrawberryElephants · 25/03/2026 07:35

Ours is every 6 weeks - they also clean the doors and the frames for £14. Its so worth it. I have a neighbour who doesnt have a window cleaner and the grot level is frankly disgusting. Her door has moss on it... it looks like some kind of Halloween haunted house door!

PoshLady90 · 25/03/2026 07:37

Every 4 weeks here £10. Big house. Maybe 20 windows including patio doors x2 outside of windows only, cleaner does inside.
I thought monthly window cleaner was standard!

GentleSheep · 25/03/2026 07:40

No window cleaner here. We did have a fellow once who did some triple distilled water thing that was supposed to leave no streaks but... well the windows didn't look that good so didn't have him back. Windows here do need cleaning (the upstairs ones mainly) but... can't afford it right now anyway.

boobot1 · 25/03/2026 07:44

I get mine done monthly. My house has a lot of glass though.

Velumental · 25/03/2026 07:48

Once a month, I hate dirty windows and am generally quite slatternly

MrsClatterbuck · 25/03/2026 07:48

Ours get cleaned once a month. Though the last time he came he hadn't been for a while due to an injury.

mamato4boys · 25/03/2026 08:07

Does it depend where you live? In a polluted city you need it more than out in than semi rural. May well out in the sticks there is farming mess.

ChangeAgainAgainAgain · 25/03/2026 08:16

It's about £70 for me to have my (fairly standard sized house) windows cleaned, so I only get it done once in a while when they look dirty. No one in our street has a regular window cleaner that I've noticed. If I could get them done for £10/15 I'd definitely have them done monthly, but it's just too expensive to justify.

LadyVioletBridgerton · 25/03/2026 12:00

We have ours done once a month.

likelysuspect · 25/03/2026 12:02

He's meant to come every month

Do you think he turns up every month?

No, he turns up when he feels like it

Window cleaners are hard to find here, we've been let down so much

He only charges about 50 quid though, might be less if its not that dirty

I would like them done monthly

AmazingGreatAunt · 25/03/2026 12:08

Where I live there are no such thing as window cleaners for domestic properties. I am sure you could try to engage one of the industrial companies that does office tower blocks, but I imagine that would cost a fortune.
However, all the windows open inwards, so I could clean mine every day, were I that way inclined. They tend to get cleaned slightly more at this time of year due to pollen, but as a general rule they get cleaned when they are dirty.
Funnily enough that is always one of the things I think about when watching property programmes where there are huge, very tall windows (think double storey) - how on earth do they get cleaned inside?

That’s a lot

endofthecorridoor · 25/03/2026 22:32

We were paying £60 month which seemed ridiculous for 20 minutes working. Then a friend recommended hers who charges £25 does an amazing job and is regular as clock work. I

WearyAuldWumman · 26/03/2026 00:48

Since I originally posted on here, the window cleaners have increased their price to £9 a month.

I'm astonished at how much cleaners in other parts of the country are charging.

£50!

£50!

Oh really, I think its a bargain, its usually about 40 when he is doing them regularly but because he hadnt been for so long and they were filthy it took longer

I would say he is normally here about 1.5hrs, sometimes longer.

Must be a very large building?

TonTonMacoute · 26/03/2026 17:03

I don't time it exactly but it's every two months, which is more than enough as we live in the countryside, but on a road. I wouldn't mind stopping in fact, as we have had new windows which can be cleaned from inside, but it's supporting a one man local business, so I keep him on.
