To think ‘most people’ don’t get their windows cleaned this often?

Disagreement in our house today. Do ‘most people’ (which after some discussion was pinned down to people in 30s/40s in eg 3 bed semi with a kid or two 😅) have their windows cleaned every 6-8 weeks?

YABU - of course they do
YANBU - definitely not ‘most’

I have always cleaned my own windows. I wonder if people have ever totted up how much it’s costing a year !

People may be time poor but money rich plus you are contributing to someone else's income.

RedPony1 · 10/09/2025 11:04

Never paid a window cleaner.

We do outside once or twice a year and they never seem that dirty? Inside every every couple of months, but again, never seem that dirty!

LizzieLazzie · 10/09/2025 11:10

I have to do certain inside windows quite often as the cat likes licking them for some random reason!

Bookkeepermum · 10/09/2025 13:32

I clean the outside every month and the inside every week 🤷🏼‍♀️

oldmoaner · 10/09/2025 14:19

I'd prefer mine were cleaned every month but window cleaner comes when he feels like it, normally every 7/10 weeks. But, it depends where you live, on a main road I'd imagine they get dirtier than in area where hardly any traffic. I really do dislike dirty windows though. My daughter's are cleaned every month by her window cleaner.

Haemagoblin · 10/09/2025 14:21

I just wait for it to rain 😂 We just put our house on the market and I cleaned the inside ones for the first time in about 3 years. Never had the outside ones done. I am clearly grim.

Do you have smokers in the house?
Surely, windows don't get that dirty in a week?

LesLavandes · 10/09/2025 14:36

Every 4 weeks. I live by the beach so lots of salt

SilverVixen101 · 10/09/2025 14:45

We have lived in our 4 bed, 3 storey house for 18 years and have never cleaned the windows. We had new windows put in the front about 15 years ago and some new ones in the back about 6 years ago and we remarked how much more we could see with fresh glass! Still haven't cleaned them though. It just never occurs to us to do it. Mind you we only hoover about 4 times a year.

I have lived in my flat (ground floor) since December and have yet to clean the windows.

I want to pay somebody but it seems excessive to pay somebody to do it.

theyoungishman · 10/09/2025 15:12

One a year in spring

Magenta82 · 10/09/2025 17:14

DP is a window cleaner, most customers are on the schedule for every 6 weeks but he also offers 4 or 12 week options.

Our windows have been cleaned once this year I think. I'm considering contacting one of his mates to go on their books.

We'd need a telescopic pole to do ours as can't stand on bits of the extension. I consider it quite a bargain actually (£15 for large 5 bedroom house). I'd much rather spend the time working and earning more money.

Excessive to pay someone to do it? Do you expect to be done for free, then?

Atina321 · 10/09/2025 21:35

Our window cleaner cones about once a month. That is their regular schedule and they have plenty of business.

TippledPink · 10/09/2025 21:36

Ours were done twice this year ... Probably needs more.

Tuesdayschild50 · 10/09/2025 21:52

Once a month mine front and back we have a window cleaner... be damned if I'm doing them I've got enough to do.
For £11 a month it's worth it to have nice clean bright windows .

bigblueboots · 08/09/2025 18:12

This is the relatable content I’m here for! Anyone else just not have a window cleaner…?

I don’t have one either and mine look ok. Occasionally give them a quick go if they look dirty but NEVER had a professional clean

Same here

FlipFlopVibe · 10/09/2025 22:25

Every month, everyone around here does the same. They’re quite big houses though, over 20 windows, two sets of patio doors and the front and back door too. Not a chance I’d ever get them done, the way they open would also be impossible from the inside. Best £14 I spend!

??

Why is that your logic? That me thinking it seems excessive to pay to have it done means I expect somebody to clean my windows for free? I cannot fathom how you reached that conclusion.

RedRiverShore5 · 08/09/2025 18:43

We used to have a window cleaner but it was a bit of a pain with the locked back gate so DH bought poles of Amazon to do it

Similar here / locked back gate, but we would be fine to leave it unlocked if I knew exactly when they were coming, & there is usually someone in anyway - would be interested in how well / easy it is with the poles?
For some reason in this area it's hard to find a regular, reliable window cleaner - eg a couple have done them once or twice (approx 6 weekly), then never came back! Around £24 for the full 3 bed house. And ours are quite easy biggish panes of glass (not the little 'individual squared off / grid' type - not sure what they are called, lol).
Inside, I try to do roughly every month or so, but admit that may not be as regular as I intend to.🤔🙁

RampantIvy · 10/09/2025 23:06

Our window cleaner texts the evening before he comes, so I remember to unlock the gate.

Window cleaning is a job I am more than happy to pay someone else to do, as is car washing (a job I hate).

Pineapples198 · 11/09/2025 12:20

That’s not “often”. Our window cleaner comes every 2 weeks

Idontneedanotherhero · 11/09/2025 17:03

Valmaine · 08/09/2025 18:11

Twice a month, for the last 16 years! It literally never occurred to me to ask to do them less than that! This thread is a bloody revelation!

This! I sacked my window cleaner because I couldn’t afford it every 2 weeks any more! Never occurred to me to ask him to come less often!
