To think ‘most people’ don’t get their windows cleaned this often?

Disagreement in our house today. Do ‘most people’ (which after some discussion was pinned down to people in 30s/40s in eg 3 bed semi with a kid or two 😅) have their windows cleaned every 6-8 weeks?

YABU - of course they do
YANBU - definitely not ‘most’

There's certainly some dirty windows out there ! 😳

Window cleaner comes once a month.

Same here

Our window cleaner texts the evening before he comes, so I remember to unlock the gate.

Window cleaning is a job I am more than happy to pay someone else to do, as is car washing (a job I hate).

We have the same arrangement re the back gate with our window cleaner

Jdh172 · 12/09/2025 07:41

Yes clean windows make house look much better and cleaner from outside and in. My window cleaner comes every 6-8 weeks and is worth paying for in my opinion

Timeforabitofpeace · 12/09/2025 10:22

Our window cleaner only will come every 8 weeks.

Proseccoagain · 12/09/2025 17:32

My windows are cleaned every month - the cleaner also wipes down the sills and frames.

This is the relatable content I’m here for! Anyone else just not have a window cleaner…?

Me! Never had a window cleaner in my life!!

I'm shocked that so many people on here have window cleaners!!!!

Why?

I like to be able to see clearly out of the window and to let maximum light in. It isn't difficult to understand.

I don't think my windows are unclear to see out of, despite not being cleaned in about 2 years... Perhaps they are but I just don't realise?

jamnpancakes · 14/09/2025 13:29

In days gone by women ( yes not the men 😂) would be considered slovenly if they didn't keep their windows clean and their doorstep polished.

I think you probably don't realise 😂 I remember a visit to one house years ago - these people were quite proud of their big house. The first thing I noticed was the filth around the light switches. As we would say " all fur coat and no knickers".

They were proud of their home and all you could see was dirt on the light switch?

what a miserable, joyless, ungenerous thought to have

jamnpancakes · 14/09/2025 13:38

@BellyblueboyI should celebrate dirt ? Their baby buggy was filthy too.

I suppose we all need to find ways to feel

jamnpancakes · 14/09/2025 14:03

There's no excuse for filth. All it takes is elbow grease.

Itstwelveoclocksomewhere · 14/09/2025 14:05

Every three months but it is definitely not enough. They were done six weeks ago and they are very dirty. In fact they were dirty a few days after they were last cleaned as it rained and the drops left visible grey/brown marks on the glass.

Reminds me of when an ex of mine was viewing houses. He was/probably still is very wealthy and was viewing houses worth/priced at a couple of million. He said they were all dirty and believed rich people didn't care about dirty houses.

In our last house we didn't have a window cleaner for ages, and thought we didn't need one. When we finally did get a window cleaner, the difference between before and after was massive. We live in a village with low air pollution, so I imagine that it would be worse in towns and cities.

It's like being short sighted and not realising how bad your eyesight is until you start to wear glasses.

This is really interesting! We also live in a village with low air pollution, but I'm intrigued now. I will have to wash my windows and see 😄

Londonrach1 · 15/09/2025 07:32

Never had a window cleaner and tbh don't know anyone who does. In fact I do my ex elderly neighbour had one. No one else. We probably clean the windows outside twice a year. Live in a village no where near big roads

daffodilandtulip · 15/09/2025 07:41

Our window cleaner used to come once a month. I thought it wasn't necessary to be quite so often but it was that or none. He vanished at the start of the year and I really miss them being cleaned!

theyoungishman · 27/01/2026 04:43

Once a year professionally cleaned here. That's it.

HelmholtzWatson · 27/01/2026 04:59

I used to pay a window cleaner every month when I lived on my own in a 2 bed semi and it cost a fiver.

Nowadays I do it myself, usually before we have guests.

tommyhoundmum · 27/01/2026 08:09

Just twice a year as there are so many windows in a relatively small place.
