To think ‘most people’ don’t get their windows cleaned this often?

Disagreement in our house today. Do ‘most people’ (which after some discussion was pinned down to people in 30s/40s in eg 3 bed semi with a kid or two 😅) have their windows cleaned every 6-8 weeks?

YABU - of course they do
YANBU - definitely not ‘most’

Once a month for us

Butteredtoast55 · 27/01/2026 08:19

Ours get done around 4-6 weeks apart, depending on the window cleaner, and he takes January off.
I do inside around four times a year, although as a real treat the window cleaner does the kitchen ones when I have the floor resealed and the ovens cleaned, which is early spring.

Quine0nline · 27/01/2026 08:27

Every six to eight weeks, weather permitting. The day after they are cleaned, a named storm hits!

Didimum · 27/01/2026 08:36

Outside windows every 8 weeks, insides every 2 weeks. No idea what’s normal for others.

Normal for me is literally never.

Rain gives them a good wash!

YourHusbandIsComing · 27/01/2026 09:34

Ours is supposed to come once a month but it’s more like every 3 months now because now his youngest has left school he’s on holiday all the time.

Codyrhodesisaheel · 27/01/2026 09:42

My husband is a window cleaner. Most of his customers choose either a 6- or 8-week round, with prices ranging from £12 - £40 depending on the size of the house/number of windows/conservatory/solar panels etc.

He very rarely does one-off cleans because it a) takes too long and b) is too complicated to add into his schedule. That time he spends on someone as a one-off is time he could spend on someone as a repeat customer. Why would he ever prioritise the person who says from the start, "I'm never going to use you again?"

I guarantee once you've started having regular cleans, you'll notice the difference as soon as you stop.

BarbaraKirksKaftan · 27/01/2026 09:50

I get mine done roughly every month. I am not sure if there is an option to reduce frequency. They are quite cheap though and I am happy to get it done monthly.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 27/01/2026 09:51

Our window cleaner comes about every 5 weeks.

I wish I could say the insides get done anything like as often…

No I don't think so - not anyone in my age bracket anyway (40s/50s). I live in a Victoria 3 storey terrace with two teenagers. Been here 17 years and I think we've had them cleaned once. We also had 3 windows replaced about 8 years ago and never washed them since. I remember when they were replaced thinking how nice it was to see very clearly out the glass - we'd lived here 9 years and the old windows had maybe been washed once in that time. One bay window in the kitchen the kids drew on about 12 yeasrs ago with special coloured crayons for glass and you can still see the pictures - though the rain has washed some of it away.

This is the relatable content I’m here for! Anyone else just not have a window cleaner…?

Yep me. Get done occasionally by the husband or myself. Small terrace so we do try to clean the front ones. Don't want the neighbours to think we're complete slobs! 😅

winnieanddaisy · 27/01/2026 21:11

4 bed detached here and windows are cleaned every month . He even washes our front door . The cost has just gone up to £12 .

SALaw · 27/01/2026 23:41

Our window cleaner comes to us once a month.

Where are you? 4 bed semi here, and we pay £30 for the same (South West).

Baital · 28/01/2026 04:54

Never for me. I don't know anyone who does get them washed, or washes them on a regular basis.

50s, 3 bed semi.

Doingtheboxerbeat · 28/01/2026 05:25

I do my own once a year, and I'll be honest - I don't think they're particularly dirty but I totally notice when they are cleaned. Just had new windows put in so ... they probably won't get down for the foreseeable 🤭.

shhblackbag · 28/01/2026 05:51

Every 8 weeks, yes. I hate when they look like crap.

Sadworld23 · 28/01/2026 06:11

Never actually seen a window cleaner on our street since we moved here 5 years ago.

All 3 bed houses. Don't see anyone rushing to clean their windows either. Mind you we get slot of rain.

Baital · 28/01/2026 07:00

I am sure i would notice if they were done - for the first day...

It's not something I choose to spend my time or money on. I don't have a bin washing service either! (For the outdoor bins, I do wash my indoor bins when they need it 😀 but generally a bin liner does the job).

Each to their own.

I clean my own windows (detached 4 bed), inside and out at least twice a month. Not always the whole house in one go. More often in summer. I like to look out as if there is no glass between me and the world outside, so I can admire the birds!

Ionlymakejokestodistractmyself · 02/02/2026 17:57

We don't have a window cleaner. We can do them all ourselves (open inwards or reachable), except for the bathroom windows.

(But we only do them about twice a year)

FireBreathingDragon · 02/02/2026 17:57

Didimum · 27/01/2026 08:36

This does sound about right. How on earth are people living with windows that are NEVER cleaned at least inside? They must be filthy.

PurpleCoo · 02/02/2026 18:00

Yes, I would say so. I'd have thought most window cleaners have a business model where they just go every 6 weeks or so to their customers

Toomanywaterbottles · 02/02/2026 18:28

That seems excessive. I never see anyone having their outside windows cleaned where I live at all. I don’t know about the inside.
