Couple having sex in front of window

doremifaso · 31/08/2025 10:05

My children’s bedrooms looks out toward a house in the distance that has a bedroom in which looks like a converted loft. They have big floor to ceiling windows and NO curtains.
We were told by my neighbour once that he saw the occupiers there having sex in full view in front of the window - this was during an afternoon.
My husband also witnessed their act just last night when settling the kids to bed. It’s not hard to miss because their light is on and they’re BIG windows. My husband said he saw a lot of detail.
Not to sound prude but I’m really concerned about my children one day seeing them doing it. I have both sons and a daughter and don’t really want to expose them to sex in this way.

I’ve been told I don’t really have much right to complain because it’s within their own home but I am thinking of writing a letter to politely ask if they would be able to get some blinds or curtains installed.
If they ignore it, is there anything else I could do?
What would you do?

Glass half empty there!!!

My standards are high.

My standards are high.

Not as high as the converted loft window ...

Ha true. The type of people who put it out there for all to see are never the type that you want to see.

DeeKitch · 31/08/2025 18:28

Ask other neighbours in a joking way if it would be legal to record them and make a fortune on OF

it might filter back to them

Light on and big windows?
It's deliberate. It's exhibitionism.
I'd be tempted to get the police to have a word.

This. They’re getting off on being seen. Unacceptable if you can easily be seen by minors. It would be perfectly reasonable to knock on the door and ask them to get a grip.

Had you considered blinds for your house? I’d tell you to stop looking through my windows if that letter appeared on my doorstep, or even forward to the police: peeping toms! Are you in a newbuild by chance? They are often very clumsily squished into landscapes in my opinion.

Edited

Blinds shouldn't have to be closed during the day in living areas. With that attitude, I'd be complaining to the police about indecent exposure.

Who have you been told that by? That you don’t have a right to complain? Even if it’s in their own home if it’s visible, it’s still potentially an offence or antisocial behaviour. Years ago there was a couple who got an ASBO for all the noisy sex they were having in their own home. I’d politely put a note through their door letting them know and then if they don’t change their ways, report it to the police or council.

Vynalbob · 01/09/2025 18:52

A man got charged with indecent exposure while looking out of his sitting room window naked as a bus went by (about 25 feet away at a guess). At the time I thought it harsh. So it depends if guess on how obvious it is. Dropping them a note is reasonable, but if it's ignored you'll have to either live with it or contact the police.

GiveDogBone · 01/09/2025 18:54

You’ll know that they’ve seen them when they ask for binoculars for their birthday.

*LOL! Whilst clutching his binoculars and furiously wanking.

@Moveoverdarlinthis made me spit my cup of tea out 🤣🤣

Suusue · 01/09/2025 19:29

You are NOT being a prude. Who the hell wants to see that! Especially your children. They are obviously doing it on purpose for attention and it turns them on. Idiots. Don't write no point Maybe put some film up on your window thst faces them??

yellowbuzzybee · 01/09/2025 19:30

I would go round to the house knock on the door when they answer I would say it’s nice to see you with so much clothes on ha ha ha. My kids can see you having sex through your window. Can I kindly ask that maybe you close your curtains when you’re having sex? Of course it’s natural, but they’re only young and I’d rather them not see you pounding each other doggy style and what not.

Hillarious · 01/09/2025 19:34

How was it resolved?

Sodastreamin · 01/09/2025 20:16

YetanotherNC25 · 31/08/2025 10:16

You could not look? Your DH has clearly watched them ‘in the distance’ to see that level of detail. Close your curtains if you don’t want to see.
They’re allowed to have sex in their house. They’re also allowed to to choose not to have curtains spoiling their floor to ceiling windows.
And don’t write to them or you’ll sound even more like a prude.

It’s illegal to knowingly expose yourself/take part in sexual acts when you know you can be seen by the public..

Sadworld23 · 01/09/2025 21:02

Anyone that thinks it's reasonable to have sex in full view of the neighbours, is either similarly inclined or is a troll just refuting the OP for the sake of it

If it was 2 blokes or 1 bloke and his handy mate it clearly wouldn't be ok.

I think.mn admin should take a look at these 'what are you worried about' keyboard warriors and considet if their input is useful to MN generally.

Forget OF, I would record them on video and show it to the police and ask them to have a word with the exhibitionists. OP kids should not be exposed to their antics.

Crudd99 · 01/09/2025 21:50

MsTamborineMan · 31/08/2025 10:20

It'd hardly prudish to not want your young children to see people having sex. Moat adults would be horrified that a child could see you shagging from their bedroom window

Agree.

ThreePointOneFourOneFiveNine · 01/09/2025 21:57

In front of a big window with lights on is definitely deliberate.

Yourcatisnotsorry · 01/09/2025 22:47

I’d write a letter and say you were concerned about the shape of his penis/the colour of her nipples/whatever and they should see a doctor. They should be mortified into putting blinds up.

JeannieJo · 01/09/2025 23:11

I would phone the non urgent police line for advice. I don’t think it would be ok if it was you and your partner doing it in front of the kids or the neighbours individually naked in front of the windows in full view. Time for some proper advice.

The thing i find odd is that if they are doing it deliberately , they must know they will eventually get challenged over their behaviour. Why risk it. Why dont they just go to a swingers club or go dogging or whatever it is these exhibitionists usually do. It's a bit bizarre. Does anybody in the area actually know who they are or where they work or anything like that..I.mean it could have implications for their jobs.

SemiRetiredLoveGoddeess · 02/09/2025 02:13

Are these people part of some kind of Only Fans set up?.
Or fetish site?

They are obviously getting off on their sntics and know the neighbours can see them.

You are not a prude but just being a good, decent and responsible parent.

Well.done.

doremifaso · 31/08/2025 13:47

It’s been resolved now and I thank everyone who agreed that it’s not acceptable at all. To those who even considered it to be (given children were in the equation) either don’t have kids themselves or if they do, don’t give two about them!
Also says a lot about one’s character when defending such action.

“Defending such action?” We are taking about two consenting adults having sex in their own home. You make it sound like they were cooking meth.

How do you think your children got here? And all of the others on your “family oriented neighbourhood”?

spoonbillstretford · 02/09/2025 04:07

LoveItaly · 31/08/2025 10:25

Just because they are physically in their own home doesn’t make it acceptable to show the public what they are doing, and it sounds as though they are getting a thrill out of it. Huge windows, no curtains and leaving the lights on? Honestly, why are people’s standards so low these days that they think this is ok? It’s horrible for others to see, and especially children.
I would write to them first and tell them to get some bloody curtains!

Exactly. They know what they are doing. Tell them you can see them and they are opposite a child's bedroom, if they carry on call the police. It absolutely is an offence if they know they can be seen and have been told to stop.

Er, without putting on a public show?

Children are not legally able to consent to adults having sex in front of them and neither are the neighbours consenting to that going on in front of them. The consent is between two people, if you are bringing the wider world into your sex life you need everyone's explicit consent.
