Couple having sex in front of window

doremifaso · 31/08/2025 10:05

My children’s bedrooms looks out toward a house in the distance that has a bedroom in which looks like a converted loft. They have big floor to ceiling windows and NO curtains.
We were told by my neighbour once that he saw the occupiers there having sex in full view in front of the window - this was during an afternoon.
My husband also witnessed their act just last night when settling the kids to bed. It’s not hard to miss because their light is on and they’re BIG windows. My husband said he saw a lot of detail.
Not to sound prude but I’m really concerned about my children one day seeing them doing it. I have both sons and a daughter and don’t really want to expose them to sex in this way.

I’ve been told I don’t really have much right to complain because it’s within their own home but I am thinking of writing a letter to politely ask if they would be able to get some blinds or curtains installed.
If they ignore it, is there anything else I could do?
What would you do?

Could you send me the location please, sounds interesting.

I agree! Just typical mumsnet posters who have to tell the OP she is wrong and, in fact, her own husband is the pervert 🙄🙄

One poster insinuated that he was wanking furiously at the sight, despite the fact that OP said he saw them while putting their kids to bed. Either reading comprehension is in the toilet or it’s just wilful misunderstanding !!

Urgh. You don't even know if they're a pair of mingers and you'd be all over it?

IkeaJesusChrist · 31/08/2025 16:42

How was this resolved OP?

I hope you were more specific with whoever you spoke to.

SerendipityJane · 31/08/2025 12:08

The OP said a converted loft. I'd be curious to see the physics of "passing by".

People round their way are very tall.

You could put window film on the kids windows so they get all the light without the floorshow.

Edited

Have you ever lived on a room where you had these films on??
The children would miss all the ‘perks’ of having a window - direct light coming through, seeing the sky, the birds etc etc….
Windows are not just about light. Otherwise people would put a film on rather than using curtains!!

Carbootcathy · 31/08/2025 16:49

Yanbu. Sex should be in private. You might as well say I can do it in my front garden (no hedge or wall!) just because it is our garden. Or on the train... as we have bought tickets for our seats!
Lots of laws apply as mentioned by other posters. Write a letter - don't mention children - and go to police if it continues.

Or there's a stilt walking convention this weekend ?

butterdish93 · 31/08/2025 10:46

Don’t write them a letter. You need to knock on their door and tell them it’s wrong.
they know what they’re doing. But it’s not ok to expose children to sex. And they need strongly reminding of that.

Definitely not ok. Indecent exposure. If caught by police a possible sex offenders registration for the next 10 years which would affect their entire lives

it's all a bit Craig David now.

Was that really a telescope in his pocket?

Reminded of the scene in Back to the Future where Marty sees his future father in a tree spying on Marty's future mother. My dad's a peeping tom!!!

we await the reply.

Don't forget it's a converted loft, too. So at least on the upper storey, if not above that.

I was wondering about that.

I figured the houses might be on a slope, so that loft level on the neighbours' house is in line with the first floor on the OPs.

I'm also intrigued as to how far "a distance" is. The house opposite mine is about 20 yards away, and I wouldn't call that a distance. And I really can't see more than a couple of feet into their front rooms. If they wanted to engage in public shagging, they'd have to stand in the window to do it.

I was trying to picture how a converted loft can have a floor to ceiling window. Usually loft spaces will have sloping walls, unless the window is on the gable end.

Of course this could be a US style "loft" like in Friends I suppose.

With the situation resolved we are all just amusing ourselves now.

I'm starting to realise why there are always footprints in the snow.

Bloodyscarymary · 31/08/2025 17:22

I would write to them and let them know you have young children who can see them from that window. Perhaps they are mildly exhibitionist but hopefully the knowledge that it’s actually little children that can see them (rather than turned on adults as perhaps they are imagining) might put a dampener on their antics. You don’t lose anything by trying.

😂😂😂oh God. This thread is really starting to make me snort with laughter. I'm just imagining what sort of people would go to the trouble of standing in a window to have sex so that everybody could see. The tears are literally running down my face. I think I'm gonna die in a minute.

“Dear couple at No. xx

As you are aware, we thoroughly enjoy watching the displays of sexual activity you put on for our benefit. However, we are saddened to say that your performance recently has been somewhat underwhelming and lacking in any technical ability. The sex on “insert date your husband saw then” was a particular low point as the male participant lacked any real enthusiasm and, at times, looked thoroughly bored.

Yours, in anticipation of a return to previous form

Neighbourhood Watch”

Shove that through their door ideally with a box of Viagra attached. Should render the bloke impotent until you can move.

Light on and big windows?
It's deliberate. It's exhibitionism.
I'd be tempted to get the police to have a word.

This.
All the people saying "don't look" or "close your curtains" are ignoring the fact that this is being done to satisfy their fetish. They are doing it knowing that neighbours and passers by - including children - can see what they are doing

Indecent exposure carried out by lone males is, quite rightly, condemned. So why is it ok if a couple do it?

write an anonomous letter

Moonlightfrog · 31/08/2025 18:02

Yes people can do what they want in their own homes….but with the curtains closed so people don’t have to see. Of course it’s not ok to fuck in front of a window that others can see into. I would call the police.

Memberofstaff · 31/08/2025 18:04

Yes, people can do what they like in their own home BUT there are limits. They are in full public view and therefore subject to laws on nudity and indecent behaviour.

I would write a polite note to them, explaining about your children.

They might be doing it to be watched, but I imagine little children wouldn't be their target audience.
