Couple having sex in front of window

doremifaso · 31/08/2025 10:05

My children’s bedrooms looks out toward a house in the distance that has a bedroom in which looks like a converted loft. They have big floor to ceiling windows and NO curtains.
We were told by my neighbour once that he saw the occupiers there having sex in full view in front of the window - this was during an afternoon.
My husband also witnessed their act just last night when settling the kids to bed. It’s not hard to miss because their light is on and they’re BIG windows. My husband said he saw a lot of detail.
Not to sound prude but I’m really concerned about my children one day seeing them doing it. I have both sons and a daughter and don’t really want to expose them to sex in this way.

I’ve been told I don’t really have much right to complain because it’s within their own home but I am thinking of writing a letter to politely ask if they would be able to get some blinds or curtains installed.
If they ignore it, is there anything else I could do?
What would you do?

YANBU. It’s exhibitionism and they’re doing it deliberately. Bloody creepy if children can see.

I would go round, speak to them or drop a note through the door asking them to use a different room or put blinds up at the windows.

Yup, that's the issue here: what it does to the house prices...

They could put up a large poster of Nigel Farage to redress the balance.

Since you need things spelling out, like a toddler does, here you go…

Why shouldn’t posters laugh at a sex story from an anonymous person about two other anonymous people, with details so vague that nobody can have any idea at all whether there’s any genuine issue in the first place and in which no harm has come to any person (if the story’s even true in the first place)?

Are you seriously saying that people shouldn’t find humour in this subject? Seriously?

Well I found it amusing. But as I have often been told, I have a fucking weird sense of humour.

WILL NO ONE THINK OF THE CHILDREN ?!?!?!

LessOfThis · 31/08/2025 14:32

This comes up on here a lot, and all the cool mums will say “they’re in their own home” etc. but no, it’s totally inappropriate and unnecessary.

So glad I helped you chose your words. 😊

So many strange folk painting the husband as a perv here. I’d be in shock and probably stare for half a second too long too.

We’ve fallen as a society if we think it’s acceptable to have sex in front of a big window with no curtains and it’s everyone else’s problem if they see us as opposed to us getting some bloody curtains and keeping intimate moments to ourselves. It’s gross.

MightyDandelionEsq · 31/08/2025 14:39

DancingLions · 31/08/2025 10:31

People on these types of threads always say “just don’t look”.
If some creepy guy flashed at your kids in a park would you tell them “just don’t look”? No, you’d call the police.

This couple can’t be so stupid as to not know they can be seen. If this was a single man wanking in front of the window would you all be so calm then? I’d be having a word with them and, if it continued, calling the police. Because by that point it would definitely be deliberate.

Just came to say, this is perfectly articulated.

Need more info ? . What part of two bollock naked dog humpers with floodlights and no curtains dont they get

And this is where exactly? Asking for a friend.

If anyone has seen the film Mr. Brooks you might think closing the curtains might be the better option

Herewegoagainandagainandagain · 31/08/2025 14:40

Obviously exhibitionists.

Write them a note saying your children can see them having sex from their bedroom window. Inform them it is an offence to have sex when they know a child could witness it, and now you have informed them if you see them at it again you will be informing the police. Thank them for their consideration.

Keep a photo of the note you gave them with a date on it. Then let the police take care of it.

Don’t bother asking me to elaborate (that means to explain further).

ElfAndSafetyBored · 31/08/2025 10:19

So PPs think it is OK to put on live sex shows? I’m not sure it is. It sounds like indecent exposure to me.

It’s not like OP has gone looking for it, or snuck into their garden to watch. She’s in her own home.

Most definitely not indecent exposure as this requires a) the intentional exposure of genitals as well as b) the intent to cause distress, harassment or alarm. A couple going at it in their own house even if visible from outside hardly meets this threshold!

Pedallleur · 31/08/2025 14:47

doremifaso · 31/08/2025 10:46

Yes exactly and I’m not going to change my behaviour to avoid looking out my own damn windows. We like watching sunsets and identifying the stars in the skies with our children - without having o run the risk of seeing someone doing it doggy style ffs

You might see the Dog star or the Pole star. Doubt you would see Saturn's Ring. But certainly a good view of the Moon

This comes up on here a lot, and all the cool mums will say “they’re in their own home” etc. but no, it’s totally inappropriate and unnecessary.

It’s also illegal. it’s a crime under the sexual offences act if you have sex anywhere that passers by can see- that includes your own property.

agree the ‘cool mums’ seem to be out in force.

I wouldn’t be bothered if I accidentally saw a couple shagging outdoors/ in their own garden. But this behaviour sounds intentional.

But I did ask you to elaborate in the first instance, and you did.

You’ve got that silly face again haven’t you.

LovelyLuluu · 31/08/2025 14:48

doremifaso · 31/08/2025 13:47

It’s been resolved now and I thank everyone who agreed that it’s not acceptable at all. To those who even considered it to be (given children were in the equation) either don’t have kids themselves or if they do, don’t give two about them!
Also says a lot about one’s character when defending such action.

How on earth has this been 'resolved' in 3 hours since your first post?

I think you need to explain or it all looks a bit 'fake'.

Did you contact the police or did you go and talk to them?

Murdoch1949 · 31/08/2025 14:49

They quite probably know exactly what they are doing and it is to satisfy their own exhibitionism fetish. A letter of complaint may be be added to their personal stash of 'people wot we have offended'.

*LOL! Whilst clutching his binoculars and furiously wanking.

Please go to the police OP
Please be that person
Please let us know how the officers keep their face straight

Trust me of all the shite I have had to report over the last twenty years, this isn’t something we would be sniggering at.

Looks a bit fake ? You certainly weren't thinking that when you were bollocking me ...
