To wonder what’s going on with all the big lips

Everywhere I go I see women with massive lips. It looks like so many women are wearing lip fillers.

i totally get that if you’re someone with really thin lips then you may want to plump them up, but I see this look on lots of women from their 20s to 60s.

Its so fugly and so obvious!!

WithIcePlease · 19/08/2025 20:52

I was teased about my thick lips as a young girl. I'm so pleased I had them now that I'm almost 60 and still have decent lips.
Considering all the stuff I have had injected into my face ( which no one has ever commented on), I have been asked 3 times if I have my lips filled 😂

Liliwen · 19/08/2025 20:56

Quite a few reality star ‘celebs’ are getting their fillers dissolved now so hopefully the trend will gradually go away. I expect it’ll take a few years though.

interesting to read that the next trend might be small lips like anime

I am like a pp wondering when a big nose might be fashionable? I got a big nose and thin lips in the genetic lottery! Big eyes and small ears though 😆

I'm waiting for the long body/short leg trend!

Is all the artifice a way of having control over something in lives that are otherwise a bit hopeless? I see babies clutching tablet screens being pushed around by overinflated and tattooed girls with improbable hair and impractical nails. Vape on the go and phone attached to the pram handle. Each to her own, but I think it’s very sad.

AtomHeartMotherOfGod · 19/08/2025 21:04

Respectfully, where have you been?

What is 'going on' is that a whole load of common or chavvy women have decided that having duck/ blow-up doll lips makes them look more desirable.

In reality it labels them as common or chavvy.

Speaking of baboon bums, have any of you noticed BBLs much? I'm not sure if they've taken off as much in the UK, every second woman in the US seems to be walking around with a weird giant pillow arse though including Madonna!

Studyunder · 19/08/2025 21:24

I wonder if it alters the sensation in the lips at all? This post’s made me wonder if it changes how people eat/speak/kiss? You’d think the ones with massive lips must be knocking food off their fork until their proprioception adjusts. I wonder if there’s any speech pathology research into the changes 🤔

Bluedenimdoglover · 19/08/2025 21:36

Big lips, dark brows, rigid plastic eyelashes, fake or sunbed tan, tattoos, plastic nails like talons, bust and/or butt jobs ... Is this "beauty"? I know women have enhanced their looks for thousands of years, but these current trends are awful.

Nextdoormat · 19/08/2025 21:37

My 24 year old daughter follows trends, but luckily needle phobic. Takes a teddy to the dentist! We were talking last week and I was trying to explain to her that when I was her age we wante yo be straight up and down figure wise and she said she loves her big bum! (Relative size 10)🙄. There has always been trends and probably always will be, what's next any young person know?

Like I said upthread- personal anecdata but as a lip reader I think it definitely changes how people speak, as I find it very hard to read filled or botoxed lips.

Subtitles on most film and tv now. I wonder if this will mean actresses move away from it more as on a big screen I think it’s really noticeable that their mouths don’t move right- Florence Pugh is the most recent one. I couldn’t watch the film it was so distracting. But I wonder if that’s just me as a lip reader.

Why is it only women....
Many men are at the gym some taking steroids to build a bigger body, having hair transplants, teeth cosmetically changed, going on sunbeds, some going to the extreme of having legs broken to have them increase in height. I work with young adults I wish I had a magic wand and could give them all better self esteem.

And there are men speaking out against this like James smith- pointing out that “six packs” often mean an unhealthily low body fat.

they aren’t labelled “sexist bitches” as per pp though, for “bringing other men down” or judging their looks.

I was walking on a busy trail in the US recently and a girl in front of me kept getting her, approx. 8 year old, brother to photograph her arse in minty cycling shorts (she'd lift up her top and pose). It made me feel pretty ill TBH!

Worralorra · 19/08/2025 22:46

I’m seeing more of the “clean girl” look where I work - natural nails, minimal makeup Etc.

Now, if we could only ditch the hair dye, it’d be great to see people looking quite normal again!

PistachioTiramisuLimoncello · 19/08/2025 22:49

It looks vile.

They look like plastic sex dolls.

I saw a woman in Aldi yesterday like this. Sat a child in the trolley, pushing it with one hand whilst having a conversation on her phone. She'd got overinflated lips especially the top lip that was curled up and made her look deformed.

Topped off with stretchy nylonny leggings that scrunched up the crack of her (substantial) arse, and slides.

Vacuous

It seems to be a particular type of look. Very groomed women if that makes sense (hair done, full make up, glam clothes). Footballers wives type of look maybe?

is it a status symbol?

do men prefer that look?

The men I know don't like the plumped up lips at all! It does tend to look very strange on most women.

I think it's for Instagram/ SM
The big lips/ eyelashes photograph differently and the look is in on Insta but in RL it looks exaggerated and bizarre.

Every so often on SM, as a reminder, Janice from The Muppets pops up with her big lips and false eyelashes. She was definitely ahead of her time!

A neighbour recently had hers done and she asked me what I thought.
(I seriously thought someone had punched her in the mouth! 😮)

Wow so many women on here concerned and obsessed with other women and how they look!

👀

let’s hope you’re not all being judged for your looks

All women are judged on their looks. But the ones who haven’t had loads of work done have more money and fewer complications to deal with.

They remind me of haemorrhoids
