To wonder what’s going on with all the big lips

Everywhere I go I see women with massive lips. It looks like so many women are wearing lip fillers.

i totally get that if you’re someone with really thin lips then you may want to plump them up, but I see this look on lots of women from their 20s to 60s.

Big lips are going out of fashion, apparently.

MurdoMunro · 19/08/2025 08:32

OMG REALLY????? When did this start happening?

Spirallingdownwards · 19/08/2025 08:32

We all see that they usually look worse than before they had them done. I don't understand why they can't see it themselves. What makes someone think I aspire to that look?!

FionnulaTheCooler · 19/08/2025 08:32

It's not to my taste but its their body, their choice I suppose. I do wonder what the long term health implications of people having all sorts injected into them will be though.

Thank goodness

zaazaazoom · 19/08/2025 08:33

I think it's hit a peak and it's lessening. A bit like the very draw in eyebrow look from 2010

Nitgel · 19/08/2025 08:34

Lol there was a mumsnet poster @biglips where are you biglips ? 😁

LittlePineapple · 19/08/2025 08:35

I've noticed the adverts for this, sometimes on my town's page, and I kind of look at the after photos and think who wants to look like that?

Occasionally I go and work on my laptop in a coffee shop and notice often groups of similar looking people with the big lips. It's not often in my area but enough I really notice.

letsstartwithlife · 19/08/2025 08:35

Women are turning into ducks! 🤣

Titasaducksarse · 19/08/2025 08:36

This has been a thing for years now hence I'm quite surprised if people are only noticing it now!

My guess is nobody is expecting you to aspire to that look.

I think they're revolting but I don't take it personally.

Laurendelaney1987 · 19/08/2025 08:38

It seems to be a particular type of look. Very groomed women if that makes sense (hair done, full make up, glam clothes). Footballers wives type of look maybe?

is it a status symbol?

do men prefer that look?

I meant what makes someone think that they should aspire to that look (not me)

Meredusoleil · 19/08/2025 08:42

I agree OP. I am noticing it much more frequently now. I think they look hideous tbh. Like they've had an allergic reaction to a bee sting! But each to their own and all that 🤷‍♀️

Depends on your community.

Tiredjusttired · 19/08/2025 08:42

I think it’s odd. Perhaps a form of dysmorphia?

JHound · 19/08/2025 08:43

I don’t care. If the people doing it like it, I love it for them.

For years people with big lips were mocked for it so I am fine with it being seen as fashionable now.

I've seen lips described as "beautifully bee stung" in women's magazine beauty articles, but they weren't talking about the lip filler craze. Artificially plump lips don't look anything like the real thing.

hmmnotreallysure · 19/08/2025 08:45

I took my ds to the dentist last week and all the young women working there had it done, I was really surprised but then wondered if they offered fillers at the dentist which was why they all had fillers.

wominzy · 19/08/2025 08:47

Do these lips collapse back to a flattened mess if not topped up regularly? If I ever had it done (I won't), I could see myself getting fed up with the fish pout and the cost of the extra lipstick required and would go back to nature. What would that be like?

I see this - young women on nights out and they all look identical - iron-straight dyed blonde hair, botoxed foreheads, big brows, lashes like some furry creature has taken up residence on their eye lids, and big trout pout lips. You can;t tell what they really look like. The faces are like dolls or masks, devoid of expressions. I find it quite creepy even though they fit the current idea of prettiness.

Surely this happened about 5 years ago, and the trend is actually diminishing now?

ThatCoolGoose · 19/08/2025 08:51

I think that men will think they are great for a particular type of sexual activity but I believe they are ugly on good looking people

myplace · 19/08/2025 08:51

It’s the boiling frog. Each tweak is just a little more than the last one, so you don’t notice if on yourself. But the end result is very exaggerated.
