To wonder what’s going on with all the big lips

Everywhere I go I see women with massive lips. It looks like so many women are wearing lip fillers.

i totally get that if you’re someone with really thin lips then you may want to plump them up, but I see this look on lots of women from their 20s to 60s.

What a simplistic interpretation of the discussion.

Considering the things women are prepared to do to themselves to satisfy the expectations and fantasies of a certain type of man (homo baboonus) is a reasonable feminist subject for debate.

The last thing I’d do is to criticise anyone for their natural appearance. I’m allowed to have an opinion on their very deliberate choices, as we all are.

I completely agree @CoffeeCantata - in fact, the more of us who DO call out the stupidity of those of our species who do stupid things to their bodies and faces (men and women) in order to comply with some supposed 'ideal', the better.

Frankly, the tipping point of absolute absolute self-obession is now so far past the 'need' of simple 'good grooming', we'd do well to remind ourselves there's a whole wide world out there beyond the fucking mirror and all the filtered shit out there on the internet.

why is it only women feel the need to inject fillers and paralytics into their faces, and not men.

that’s what makes it sexist.

100% this.

Similarly, you don’t see many men exposing their arse-cheeks as they walk down the street (there’s a time and a place, and say, the beach might be a different matter) yet some young girls feel the need to do this.

A more interesting question is, in 2025, with all the stuff that’s out there about feminism, misogyny, gender roles etc, why they feel they want to present themselves like this.

Hiptothisjive · 19/08/2025 17:12

To me it just looks really trashy.

I have asked a few men - younger, older, different walks of life etc and not one of them have said they like them.

Rarely are they don’t well and just look awful.

This is the problem- their is a sort of man who likes the look…and I’d cross the road to avoid them.

CoffeeCantata · 19/08/2025 17:24

There is, not their is.

Nailed it. Maybe I just don’t know any of those men 😂.

So would I.

Velvetiva · 19/08/2025 17:47

I have a big nose. My face would look nicer with a smaller one. Hence thinking dd is lucky- but likei said, I got the lips.

I have seen more men in the public eye having what looks to be 'tweaks'. I don't like it on them either. It's uncanny valley isn't it? Like androids or sex dolls that human. It's almost there.... but not quite.

WilfredsPies · 19/08/2025 18:47

GentleSheep · 19/08/2025 09:21

That's it exactly! It's like everyone wants to be a clone. What happened to being an individual?

Most of us are clones. Whether you’re into a particular dramatic aesthetic or you shop in Boden, wear clear nail polish and have your hair subtly highlighted once a month. Everything about you signals what social ‘tribe’ you’re in.

And we all kid ourselves that we’re choosing our clothing and our appearances because it’s what we like. It’s for us alone. It’s not to attract a man or fit in with your social circle. Bollocks. If you’re happily married to one of those professional high earning men we always hear about on here, did he ask you out after seeing you walking down the street in a hot pink fake Juicy Couture tracksuit with diamantés on your bum, fake Uggs, a messy bun with badly applied extensions and your roots showing, a roll up in one hand and a can of energy drink in the other? Of course he sodding didn’t! Stop dying your hair, stop wearing make up or jewellery. Turn up for a night out with your friends wearing either full glam, or jogging bottoms. If you’re ’alternative’ cover up any tattoos and wear a pastel cardigan. Look at the judgement you’re met with from your friends.

why is it only women feel the need to inject fillers and paralytics into their faces, and not men Because men aren’t bombarded with media telling them that thin lips and crows feet are unattractive. In the same way, women aren’t told that we need extreme muscles and six packs to be attractive, that we need hair plugs, or shoe lifts or penis extensions. That we need to play a certain sport and drive a fast car and God forbid you decide to be a stay at home parent as a male.

We all do things to fit in with our tribe. And injectables are at the extreme end of that, but it’s a bit off turning your nose up at women who do that, when 99% of us do the same thing, albeit to a lesser extent.

CoffeeCantata · 19/08/2025 19:14

@WilfredsPies

Agree about the tribal aspect. But altering your physique is a more radical (and sometimes irreversible) step which sets this trend apart from merely being in the Boden dress or pale-pink cashmere cardigan brigade.

We know these procedures can and do go wrong and cause serious anxiety for the victims. There have been some tragic cases (esp those Brazilian bum-lift ops). - they can even be dangerous…and we don’t really know yet what the long term effects will be.

I think people feel strongly too because on the whole these lip procedures are favoured by young women and girls, and for some it’s hard to witness young attractive people mangling their faces when to old farts like me they are throwing away their most beautiful years.

Just an explanation of why this subject is so emotive.

Oh completely agree with how awful it is to see beautiful young girls failing to see how beautiful they are, or the safety issues surrounding some really dangerous procedures. My comment was aimed not at the people pointing these things out, but to the posters mocking and pouring scorn on their appearance. I didn’t word it particularly well (stopped for dinner mid post and didn’t quite get my flow back).

Also, I particularly liked your use of ‘homo baboonus’ 😁

Gettingbysomehow · 19/08/2025 19:34

They look absurd and fake, Im not getting them done, people always go too far.
Leslie Ash destroyed her pretty face with them and still looks awful now.

Nanatobethatsme46 · 19/08/2025 20:08

TowerRavenSeven · 19/08/2025 20:10

Just makes me think think of sex acts they are advertising they think they do well.

Momononoyoooo · 19/08/2025 20:13

My sleepy little town has 1 beauty salon and they added this to their list if "therapies" and in the last 6 months noticed more Mums in the park with bee sting lips and laminated glossy floor.... I mean eyebrows 😂

Exactly Drs used to say smoking while pregnant was healthy! And people used to do Xrays for fun in the early 1900s and a pot developed cancers. So yeah what they dont know today......

PurpleChrayn · 19/08/2025 20:15

All the chav mums around here are “aestheticians”. It’s endemic.

Glitchymn1 · 19/08/2025 20:19

It’s the fashion at the moment, huge sore looking lips, David Dickinson tan, butt scrunch leggings/gym kit, lashes like sweeping brushes, micro bladed brows, Botox, long straight hair. I suppose no different from shell suits and plucked eyebrows - none of it looked good.

TroysMammy · 19/08/2025 20:21

hmmnotreallysure · 19/08/2025 08:45

I took my ds to the dentist last week and all the young women working there had it done, I was really surprised but then wondered if they offered fillers at the dentist which was why they all had fillers.

My dentist sent me a text message survey and it mentioned cosmetic "enhancements" and teeth whitening so it is something dentist are considering doing or are already offering the services. I thought the survey could plant a seed of doubt about certain individual's body image and make them seek unnecessary procedures.

EvangelicalAboutButteredToast · 19/08/2025 20:24

You can usually tell as the side profile is ridiculous. I can’t say I notice it loads around here though. The fake eyelashes seem to be going away too which is good.

HevenlyMeS · 19/08/2025 20:26

Melanie Griffiths is just one example of someone whom looks worse from cosmetic surgery especially on her lips 💚😢💚

Big lips are going out of fashion, apparently.

It doesn't look like it round here.

Wow so many women on here concerned and obsessed with other women and how they look!

👀

let’s hope you’re not all being judged for your looks

It's not just about looks
If you read my posts then you will see that it caused my collegue distress.
There is also research coming through that altering the ability to move facial muscles causes disruption to neural pathways similar to those experienced in PD.

There is also the issue of erasure of women being able to express themselves and to show emotions facially -good little dolls, pleasant and making no demands .

UneFoisAuChalet · 19/08/2025 20:46

I have - naturally - big lips and a big bum. I thanked JLo in the early naughties for changing the world’s perception of what was considered beautiful. As a teenager I used to get all kind of nasty comments which only stopped when the MTV girls started to look different.

However, 25 years on it’s like the general population no longer have to accept what ‘God gave them’. It’s all a bit weird and over the top and I suspect this is the future.

Hollieandtheivie · 19/08/2025 20:50

Very normal look here, too. Mainly younger women. Not an affluent area, but botox etc are becoming so normal. Both in my new and old hairdressers, these sorts of enhancements are offered.

We've all got to live according to our own values, and I don't want to go down that route because I wouldn't want my children changing themselves in that way. I want them to understand they are gorgeous as they are, and more than just their packaging. So I have to walk the walk and talk the talk. Not easy though.
