To think this is not abscene…but fairly normal?!

I have moved house and I finally have a walk in wardrobe. I’ve decided to hang everything except trousers. Friend said this was an obscene amount of clothing and laughed so much. I think it’s not that crazy 😅 what do you think obscene or normal? 🤣 this is just the top section, next section over is dresses and coats etc.

You do you. Personally I have about 8-10 tops, 2 pairs of jeans, a pair of leggings and 2 pairs of shorts. I also have 2 pairs of work trousers. I will only tend to replace when something wears out. I prefer to have less stuff but that doesn’t mean it’s obscene for others to have much more. I do wonder why you have so many duplicates though (striped tops for example)

Bathingforest · 11/08/2025 20:37

Capsule and extreeeeemely boring. Are these your sport tees

anon666 · 11/08/2025 20:39

I think it's a lot and I am also now realising with one small wardrobe I don't have enough storage space for my modest set of clothes.

Kitchenbattle · 11/08/2025 20:39

@Chandler22 honestly if I wanted to brag about it…I would! I started a separate thread to show off my bathrooms! I was so excited!! but no that wasn’t the intention here. But for what it’s worth yes this is also a five bed house. It’s my first house that I have bought that I can call mine and I’m so so happy and excited. Thank you.

@Bathingforest yes I’m very boring, I like to keep things simple. 🤣

Looks normal. So neat 👌 I have tshirts in drawers but prefer seeing them hanging. Lovely

CyanMaker · 11/08/2025 20:49

Not too many clothes if you wear them all. Like others have commented there seems to be reruns of the same things. Did you perhaps buy doubles of some of your favorites? I do wish I had a bigger closet like yours!

whyisnothingsimple · 11/08/2025 21:00

I’ve a double for my tops x 2 hanging rails and 3 for trousers and dresses - far too much and my daughter has a successful de-cluttering business but she’s not allowed near, much to her annoyance!

MellersSmellers · 11/08/2025 21:00

As that includes T shirts that's not obscene! However, you do have a lot of black and white stripey stuff.......

laylababe5 · 11/08/2025 21:05

I probably have a similar amount. If off-season clothing is there too it can take up a lot of space. I’d hang everything too if I could! So much easier than folding. Congratulations on the new wardrobe space 🙂

If I like something and it fits well I tend to buy it in all the colours I like. So white, cream, navy, black, greens, light muted blues and blush pink. Other colours just don’t suit me unfortunately.

YoshiIsCute · 11/08/2025 21:18

I don’t think that’s an obscene amount at all! And I also get why you would buy multiple of the same item or in a similar style -if you know it’s a piece that you regularly build an outfit around, it’s really annoying when the one version you have of it is in the wash!

I have two double wardrobes and a single to myself, these house my year round wardrobe and all shoes (I don’t rotate seasonally, just keep everything out). I hang everything except knitwear, underwear, sleepwear, and swim / gym gear. Hanging most stuff does take up more space than using drawers, but it looks nicer and means I actually wear my stuff because I can see it.

@Chandler22 Pot. Kettle. Black.

Called “sarcasm”

August1980 · 11/08/2025 21:35

You are so neat and tidy…

Trishyb10 · 11/08/2025 21:38

I,ve got 3 times that amount, not boasting as alot are charity finds and vinted but i do realise that amount is “ out of control” wish mine was as organised as yours 🩷

ThistleTits · 11/08/2025 21:45

@Kitchenbattle she'd pass out if she looked at my wardrobe.

Plastictreees · 11/08/2025 21:47

@Chandler22 You clearly don’t understand sarcasm.

Heyho3 · 11/08/2025 21:53

The use of the word obscene is just a bit of hyperbole. Not meant to be taken literally.

Radiowaawaa · 11/08/2025 21:54

It is a lot especially as it’s very samey and dull.

When you say you have 10 tops, are you including every type of top in that? T shirts / casual, dressier tops, gym tops, thermal / layering tops?

And what about knitwear, jackets, coats? Occasion wear?

Im so curious as I just can’t get my head around what you’ve written being the totality of your wardrobe! (And if it is I dream of being able to live this minimally one day!!)

NoSoapJustUseShowerGel · 11/08/2025 22:18

Mumoftwoandcats · 11/08/2025 19:42

Definitely not obscene amount IMO, it’s not like you’ve 10 of the same top! I wish I was as organised as you, enjoy your new walk in wardrobe 🙂

She literally does have 10 of the same top! I counted 10 white and navy stripe tops. (If you’re being pedantic you could point out that a few are long sleeve and one of those is navy base while the other nine are white base but most of them are actually identical or near as damn it!)
@Kitchenbattle genuinely curious to know why, when you were doing your clearing out and then hanging them all up next to each other, you didn’t think to yourself that you didn’t need so many of the same top?!

ThatCyanCat · 11/08/2025 22:26

No criticism from me at all, but it's definitely not capsule!

Someone2025 · 11/08/2025 22:32

Kitchenbattle · 10/08/2025 19:25

Yeah I always thought I had very little to be honest, I’ve seen waaay more!!

@cestlavielife its pretty much all high street, a few items from boutiques. But mostly next, Zara, white stuff, the white company and mint velvet etc. with supermarket purchases in there too.

the pictures below are my other sections, I’m waiting on wardrobe boxes for the trousers etc.

I would say it’s a normal amount, I have more and don’t think I have enough but truthfully I only wear around 20%……my shoe collection is enormous but again I only wear about 20% of those aswell !

X3 and you’ll have my wardrobe

I’d say it’s up to 10 at any one point. I have 3 short sleeve t-shirts, 2 shirts, 2 tops and 1 loose fitting vest. There was a point not long ago that it was half this and I had to force myself to go shopping. I then pack this all away around October and change it out for my 3 long sleeve tops and smart knits as below.

For knitwear I have 2 smart knitted jumpers that double as work tops, a fleece, a zip though and one loose knitted jumper, so 5. I have a warm thick coat for winter and a waterproof option. I work mostly remote and my life doesn’t tend to have a need for occasion wear, I’m still trying to figure out a winter wedding guest outfit for later this year that could potential have more than one use

It’s not for everyone but I find when I own less I manage so much better
