To think this is not abscene…but fairly normal?!

I have moved house and I finally have a walk in wardrobe. I’ve decided to hang everything except trousers. Friend said this was an obscene amount of clothing and laughed so much. I think it’s not that crazy 😅 what do you think obscene or normal? 🤣 this is just the top section, next section over is dresses and coats etc.

I've got way more than this but I have been thinking about trying to cut down to make it all a bit more manageable.

I wear a lot of the same things over and over but I like to know I have the option of the other stuff, should I wish. Which I never do... 🤦🏻‍♀️

LaurieFairyCake · 11/08/2025 08:55

I’ve 20 times that amount at least

minipie · 11/08/2025 09:40

Actually I think it looks like more than it is because it’s all hung up. If the tops were folded in drawers it would look like less. Bet a lot of people have this sort of amount.

Yeah I thought this too, I didn’t actually realise how many T-shirts I had until I hung them up.

No, that's not at all obscene. I've got more, but half if it I don't actually wear🙄😆

PestoHoliday · 11/08/2025 10:28

I've had a look through my closet (half of a double sliding door IKEA wardrobe) and my three drawers in the shared chest of drawers.

I have drawer at the bottom of the wardrobe for 'memory clothes', stuff I don't or can't wear that reminds me of something. Team sports shirt, cocktail dress I bought on my 21st in Florence, my grandmother's hand knit scarf, dress I got married in, an old acrylic jumper I've had sinc I was 18.

Then a drawer for trousers. I have quite a lot at the moment as I've gone down 3 dress sizes this year so there's stuff that's too big. But usually it's

3 pairs of jeans
2 pairs of trousers
2 pairs of summer trousers
1 pair of leggings
1 pair of joggers

I have 22 dresses or tunics (long tops)
6 shirts
9 t-shirts
2 skirts
3 cardigans

And other than underwear and swimsuits, that's it.

And yes, @Kitchenbattle , of course you can be a ninja. That's my gift to you 🥷🏻

Yes, look at my white t shirts. Honest on not a stealth boast. lf I was boasting I would honestly say…

Looks lovely and organised. About average i would say, you could probably cut it down a bit but if you have the space which you clearly do then keep them! Your friend might be a wee bit jealous!

sassyclassyandsmartassy · 11/08/2025 16:24

😂😂 good thing your friend hasn’t seem mine!!!! I have one wall of just shoes! 🙈 As such I am sure you can imagine the clothing…

I agree

Julimia · 11/08/2025 17:03

Nothing to do with anyone else. If you like clothes then you like clothes, end of. Enjoy your walk in wardrobe.

Daftypants · 11/08/2025 17:49

I don’t think that’s loads , especially since that’s all your T-shirts hung up , both long sleeve and short sleeve .
My long sleeve and short sleeved tops are in drawers with one or 2 hung up as they crease.
I also like a striped t shirt and could easily wear a pair of linen trousers and a stripe t shirt daily from May to September 😆

Noseynebs951 · 11/08/2025 17:55

Looks like mine and I’ve more rails with coats and dresses too and clothes in the roofspace for winter which will come out mid September when I put the summer stuff away 😂

Blimey, I looked at this thread thinking we must be talking about porn or something nasty again - and then realised we’re talking about a few clothes!

no, of course not obscene. Enjoy! We might be dead tomorrow, get your innocent pleasures however you wish x

MediatorMom · 11/08/2025 18:01

Not obscene at all. I have 2 full closets 😂

user1492809438 · 11/08/2025 18:02

Perfectly acceptable, your friend has wardrobe envy!

somethingbeginningwithb · 11/08/2025 18:05

That's not even a tenth of my wardrobe. I dread to think what your friend would say about me!

Flatulence · 11/08/2025 18:07

It looks like a lot of clothes compared to what I own but it's certainly not "obscene". I'd say it's fairly standard.

I'm just utterly ruthless with donating/selling stuff I haven't worn for 12 months so I'm a bit minimalist!

Dancingintherain09 · 11/08/2025 18:13

Definitely not obscene. I reckon I double that easily with just my spring summer wardrobe. Autumn winter are currently in vacuum bags in the loft room. I change over end of September and April/may I have several pieces that are year round trousers, jeans shirts cardigans etc
I have a 7 drawer chest of drawers and under bed storage for pj's
Though I do wish mine was as tidy as yours. tidy and organised into ggroups ie dresses tops cardigans skirts trousers etc

oldmanandtheangel · 11/08/2025 18:15

bloody hell it's minimal AF! (by my standards)

I think your post is a humble brag

NaneePolly · 11/08/2025 18:23

That’s fine

Kitchenbattle · 11/08/2025 18:24

Ooh I ld love to see everyone else’s now! Especially those with a varied colour palette!!

“I’ve moved house and finally have a walk in wardrobe” Ooohh get you. What was the point of mentioning if your post was supposedly about having too many clothes (Because you’re humble bragging on Mumsnet) And no, no jealousy whatsoever. I have a full dressing room in our 5 bed house that 3 of us live in but I don’t make posts on here bragging about it
