To think most men would cheat if they knew they’d never be caught?

It’s not about love - it’s about opportunity, ego, and lack of consequences. “Good men” are often just men who haven’t had the chance (yet). Loyalty when untested isn’t real loyalty.

yep

PrawnofthePatriarchy · 13/07/2025 18:30

No. Lots of men are faithful, just as many women are. It seems sad to me that you think this.

Hellomeee · 13/07/2025 18:31

Mine wouldn't, he's too knackered 🤣

LondonLady1980 · 13/07/2025 18:31

Possibly.
But I imagine a lot of women would too.

This…

Why are you assuming women wouldn't in equal numbers?

Delatron · 13/07/2025 18:33

Lots of people would - men and women. It depends on the person rather than the sex of the person.

Catwoman8 · 13/07/2025 18:35

No I disagree with this.

I’m not saying women wouldn’t. But I do think the cultural messaging and ego dynamics around cheating play out differently for men, more external validation, more entitlement, more opportunity. Happy to hear other views though.

I'm amazed that there are responses thinking it's the same for women as men. It just isn't. I don't know if it's biology, social attitudes or a combination but if you think men and women are the same on this issue, you're absolutely kidding yourselves.

Agreed. I’ve only ever met one woman that committed adultery and if they could’ve burnt her at the stake at the village hall they would’ve.
Nobody spoke to her at the school gate for years.

Definitely this.

WaxingGibbon · 13/07/2025 18:52

Yes I agree, more men than we’d like to think would opportunistically cheat if they knew they’d never get caught.

Sexlessandconfused · 13/07/2025 18:57

Yes I agree 100%.

My friends who shout the loudest about how their husbands wouldn't cheat have husbands/partners who are:

Very unconventionally attractive so it's highly unlikely any woman would ever be lusting after them. They just wouldn't get the opportunity to be tested. If they then the woman in question pursuing them is very unlikely to be in any way attractive.

Impotent. So they physically couldn't and would probably avoid any and every possible encounter due to their issues.

I have someone at work who's been married forever and always bleats on about her faithful and loyal husband who only has eyes for her. I'm not saying that's not true, but realistically no woman is going to be chasing after a morbidly obese man who's badly balding with a comb over and missing teeth.
If they did get the opportunity it's also very unlikely the woman in question would actually be a hot 25 year old sexy bombshell.

I mean if any of these faithful and loyal men had a super hot bombshell younger woman willingly and enthusiastically chasing them for sex (and their wife never finding out), would they actually stay loyal? That's the real test.

This. I know men do it more but I know a lot of women personally who got bored and cheated, my mum knew a lot when she was a SAHM, bored housewives cheating with labourers and neighbours etc.

Not exactly the same numbers but women cheat a lot. I just don’t think it’s as much.

Yes that’s the true test. A man or woman should be able to refuse an opportunity in a private locked room with a naked hunk/stunner.

People? No. Men - yes.

I couldn't be in the least bit arsed to cheat. I already put up with one man, the last thing I want is two on my case.

So are you saying that women would cheat too, but only as long as they found the man they were going to cheat with attractive?

Or, if they were single and thus not actually cheating as such, they would be more likely to have their heads turned by a physically attractive man, even if they knew he had a repugnant character?

Personally, I think there are generally three kinds of people:
1 - Those who respect fidelity and would not cheat, as it simply isn't in their nature;
2 - Those who wouldn't tend to cheat, but who would strongly consider/go for it if an opportunity arose organically for them to do so without being found out or other consequences;
3 - Those who don't actually care about fidelity and will be actively seeking out as many people to sleep with as they possibly can.

I would guess that group 1 is pretty equal for the sexes; group 3 is far more men; and as for group 2, it could go either way depending on a lot of factors and circumstances.

Mine was knackered. Oh how we laughed about how knackered he was to cheat.

He cheated.

You don’t mix in the right circles, OP.
