To be pissed off that my DH is not going to McDonalds now and now I have to cook?

DH was going out at 4pm to rake DS12's friend home. He suggested he get McD's on the way back for himself and the kids (he knows I have a salad prepared for myself and that I don't like McDs) I said great, I wont have to cook.
I was in the shower when he left so I rang him to check he knows what DD7 wants from MCDs. He said he doesn't want McDs any more, he's going to go to the new local chippy instead. I said but the kids don't like the chunky chips you get from the chippies and he said well he's not going to two different places.
I said great, I suppose I'll just have to cook them something.
He said he doesn't understand why I'm so bothered, I would have had to cook anyway icfhe hadn't suggested getting something and I said, because I wasn't expecting to, I'd written it off in my mind, I haven't thought of what to cook and it's now 16:20 on a school night.
He thinks I'm just being argumentative and that I should just cook or we shpuld just tell the kids to just eat the damn chips.

Who's right?

Why can’t he cook??

Idontjetwashthefucker · 13/07/2025 16:27

It's Sunday though, not a school night

RaspberryCombat · 13/07/2025 16:27

He’s right. What he did is a minor annoyance. It sounds like your life is full of them. HTH.

ninjahamster · 13/07/2025 16:27

Agree with the first post, he can cook for them since he changed his mind!

ImAPreMadonna · 13/07/2025 16:28

Kids should eat the chip shop chips. They’re just chips, same as McDs and they are being fussy.

Tiredandtiredagain · 13/07/2025 16:28

He can get his chips, come home, eat them and then cook.

Sorted!

This. Either that or they eat the chip shop chips. I’m not seeing why you have to do anything.

Cheeseplantandcrackers · 13/07/2025 16:29

He cooks or you go to macdonalds

Your kids don't go to school on Mondays?

OP, just get him to cook dinner.

Blueyshift · 13/07/2025 16:30

I would just order a maccys in or make him go.

DragonTrainor · 13/07/2025 16:30

i understand why it's annoying for you and only a man who doesn't ever have the responsibility for looking after other people wouldn't understand why it's annoying

I like McDonalds fries, hate chippy chips so im with them on that, but yeah he changed his mind, he can cook

Sophiehoney · 13/07/2025 16:31

OK so scrap all that, be came home armed with co-op pizzas for the kids and he's cooking them.
All is forgiven 😂

I dont have kids but why is Sunday a school night?

A school night means there's school the next day.
So a Friday or Saturday isn't a school night, neither is any other day where there's no school the next day.

It basically means they need to get to bed early bathed and prepared for the next day, any homework done etc

GammonAndEgg · 13/07/2025 16:34

Sunday night is a school night. Everything needs to be prepared for the next day and kids need to be settled earlier in bed.

Friday is NOT a school night!

herbalteabag · 13/07/2025 16:34

He could cook, it doesn't have to be you. Cooking can be quick and easy, it doesn't have to be complicated and time consuming, Jacket potatoes or beans on toast etc is made in an instant. Since they were only going to have McDonalds, it's not like they are missing out on a massively nutritious meal.

youreactinglikeafunmum · 13/07/2025 16:34

He's a selfish wee dick, sorry.

I believe it's a "school night" because they have school tomorrow

StillweriseLH · 13/07/2025 16:35

It’s 4.20… not 9.20….

A school night is any night before a school day - Monday is a school day
