To be pissed off that my DH is not going to McDonalds now and now I have to cook?

DH was going out at 4pm to rake DS12's friend home. He suggested he get McD's on the way back for himself and the kids (he knows I have a salad prepared for myself and that I don't like McDs) I said great, I wont have to cook.
I was in the shower when he left so I rang him to check he knows what DD7 wants from MCDs. He said he doesn't want McDs any more, he's going to go to the new local chippy instead. I said but the kids don't like the chunky chips you get from the chippies and he said well he's not going to two different places.
I said great, I suppose I'll just have to cook them something.
He said he doesn't understand why I'm so bothered, I would have had to cook anyway icfhe hadn't suggested getting something and I said, because I wasn't expecting to, I'd written it off in my mind, I haven't thought of what to cook and it's now 16:20 on a school night.
He thinks I'm just being argumentative and that I should just cook or we shpuld just tell the kids to just eat the damn chips.

Who's right?

Gosh, McDonald's is s*. Raise your bar and you and your DH feed your kids properly.

Sad twat 😂

Why could he stop at co-op for pizzas but not McD’s?

Co-op havr a deal on where you get 2 pizzas and 4 beers for a fiver at the moment.

As someone who's DH had a small chain of fish & chip shops I'm wondering WTF is wrong with chip shop chips? We often used to have queues going down the street for our fish & chips - especially on Sunday evenings like this when the weather was good, people had spent the day on the beach & no-one could be bothered to cook for tired, hot children.

Bloody love a chippy tea as do my kids
But some kids are fussy and chippy chips as delicious as they are don't taste anything like McDonald's fries.

I am more concerned about the crap you’re eating.

@PopeJoan2

OP’s kids are eating pizza for tea, not crap. Not sure how you came up with that?! Have you had one glass of wine too many?

Lemonyyy · 13/07/2025 19:04

Sophiehoney · 13/07/2025 18:48

I just wrote a long post listing all the nutritious and delicious meals my kids have eaten this week, to justify my mcdonalds/pizza night.
But sod that. I have deleted it. I did not ask for nutrition advice. I shall not be justifying myself. I shall be enjoying my evening in my garden with a glass of wine and a clear conscience. I suggest some of you chill out and do the same xx

Good OP, don’t feel like you need to justify yourself. This place is full of absolute nut jobs and the absurd superiority complex about supposedly never eating fast food is pathetic. The vast majority of normal families eat the odd macdonalds, doesn’t mean they are malnourished or never eat vegetables.

I’m glad your husband sorted dinner and I hope your family has a nice chilled evening! I also cannot be fucked cooking in this heat so we are having picky bits (mostly crackers and cheese, oh no my children will probably die of malnutrition 🙄) and I am definitely having some wine 😊

McDonald's threads always bring posts like that

I suspect such posters have never had a,McDonald's in their lives.

Cherrytree86 · 13/07/2025 19:05

I really worry about some women on here and the way they martyr themselves. You must spend so much of your time in the supermarket and cooking and cleaning up….when do you get time for YOU?? Me time as a parent is so important.

No child’s need freshly prepared, cooked from scratch food every single day. The odd McDonald’s, fish and chips, pizza, beans on toast etc are absolutely fine.

I dont even think Mcdonalds is 'shit' anyway, its just meat, in bread, with fried potatoes.

ShamrockShenanigans · 13/07/2025 19:12

KellySeveride · 13/07/2025 18:25

McDonald’s is shit….everybody acknowledges it’s shit….but bloody hell sometimes you just want to eat super processed shit that you didn’t have to cook and nobody gets to judge that.

These threads always attract MNetters with eating disorders and a very poor view of what 'moderation' means.

They have one very blinkered view of what eating should look like, and no idea of what that might end up doing to their children.

I imagine their DCs have to eat certain things in secret, so as not to attract a judgemental lecture from mum.

I suspect they've had far too many and the self-loathing is what makes them lecture others.

In what world do you live in where a roast dinner doesn’t contain vegetables??

And since when have you had a katsu curry with a red meat?? It’s chicken breast, which in case you are interested we bread by hand for the curry!

I didn’t realise I also had to list the side veggies that came with the dishes-we obviously didn’t just serve them roast pork belly without sides!! Or list the fact that they eat me out of house and home on fruit!

I never said the katsu curry had red meat. I was referring to the pork belly and bacon alongside the roast which is often beef. There's just a distinct lack of vegetables and considering you were trying to mention how nutritious your child's diet is, I figured you would have mentioned if there were any healthy vegetables served with the roast to show this 'balance' that you talk about. Basically I eat healthily and all those meals sound like what I would eat if I was having a day off of healthy eating rather than a usual dinner I'd have. We're lacking so much education on what is healthy in this country though so I don't blame you.

soupyspoon · 13/07/2025 19:23

It would never occur to me, while self flagellating, to name each veg/salad side dish when summarising the type of meals I might eat a week

A roast can be any meat, first thing that springs to mind when someone says roast to me is chicken in any case.

This is a truly bizarre post nitpicking and trying to score some sort of points which are clearly important for you to feel self righteous and superior to others for some reason.

Erm…it is! 🤦‍♀️

Needmorelego · 13/07/2025 19:30

@Purpleumberella I absolutely hate a "roast dinner" and never eat one but I know that when someone says they "had a roast" it refers to a meal of meat, potatoes and VEGETABLES !
Except for my fussy eater Dad I have never in my life seen someone eat "a roast" without vegetables as part of it.
😂😂😂😂

what does an average day of eating look like for you out of interest?

I take it from that you live on lettuce leaves, chicken breast and boiled rice?

Because a roast dinner is not something you eat when having a day off from healthy eating! And I assumed it was a given that people would know that a roast dinner comes with vegetables (3 different colours for us this week)

In my opinion you sound like you are verging on disordered eating rather than just healthy. Withholding normal everyday home cooked food because it might have a red meat instead of white is not normal!

thinklagoon · 13/07/2025 19:44

Not entirely helpful as your kids don’t like them, but I’ve just discovered chippy chips freeze incredibly well – we had an accidental glut once, froze them and reheated next time we had fish fingers. Let’s see what the “frozen pizza is child neglect” crowd do with that.

DH could freeze himself some portions for future cravings and take over all future Sunday night dinners, safe in the knowledge that whatever he cooks, he has a backup chippy bag of chips.

issue solved?

“Head tilt”

Are you really?

I really am, but I know it’s my problem not OP’s. I am old. I have always viewed Sundays as special when you eat really good food. MY mum was a hardworking single parent and all my meals were cooked from scratch. Sundays were viewed as special where we would always have nice Sunday food. I still think this way. I am shocked to think people eat McD’s on a Sunday but as I said that’s me. I can see I have offended others.

EveryOtherNameTaken · 13/07/2025 18:55

Exactly. We talk about going to the pub on a school night if it's a weekday.

I have been itching for someone to say this - I don't have kids but this is such a common phrase for school, work anything where you have to have an early night.
This has been the funniest derailment I have seen on here 😂.
