To be pissed off that my DH is not going to McDonalds now and now I have to cook?

DH was going out at 4pm to rake DS12's friend home. He suggested he get McD's on the way back for himself and the kids (he knows I have a salad prepared for myself and that I don't like McDs) I said great, I wont have to cook.
I was in the shower when he left so I rang him to check he knows what DD7 wants from MCDs. He said he doesn't want McDs any more, he's going to go to the new local chippy instead. I said but the kids don't like the chunky chips you get from the chippies and he said well he's not going to two different places.
I said great, I suppose I'll just have to cook them something.
He said he doesn't understand why I'm so bothered, I would have had to cook anyway icfhe hadn't suggested getting something and I said, because I wasn't expecting to, I'd written it off in my mind, I haven't thought of what to cook and it's now 16:20 on a school night.
He thinks I'm just being argumentative and that I should just cook or we shpuld just tell the kids to just eat the damn chips.

Who's right?

I dont have kids but why is Sunday a school night?

Because a school night means the next day is a school day. Monday is a school day. Are you taking the piss?

Who cooked them?

DH is putting them in the oven. He stopped by co-op and grabbed them without saying anything has come home and assured me he's got dinner taken care of.
Please ignore my rant

All is forgiven 😂

Why could he stop at co-op for pizzas but not McD’s?

Delphiniumandlupins · 13/07/2025 16:46

Surely even people without school-age children talk about 'school nights' if you've got work the next day?

I don't bloody know. Man logic. But I don't have to cook anything, the kids are happy and the evening is on track. That's all I care about 😄

Tell him he needs to put on thin chips from the freezer and whatever else the kids like as they don't eat the chip shop food. That you're definitely not cooking anything.
If they ask you for food just tell them to speak to their dad.

Do you not care that your husband won’t preform the most basic of tasks of preparing food for himself and his children?

whatcanthematterbe81 · 13/07/2025 16:58

Now I want fish and chips

A school night is when you have school in the morning

Yes, instead of McDonald’s. What’s the difference?

Most people will have an easy oven dinner or takeaway sometimes, I doubt it’s pizza every day

Because a school night means a night when you've got school the next day. So for example you ideally don't want kids to be staying up late 'on a school night', which wouldn't make any sense if it was weekday nights - it's fine to stay up later on a Friday night!

TheLemonLemur · 13/07/2025 17:17

Next time don't get involved it sounds like you micro manage - your husband said he was going to get kids mac ds I would therefore assume he would ask them before he left what they wanted and if not would call at the drive thru..also the dramatic you would need to cook no you wouldn't your dh was dealing with it so if he came back with nothing it's on him to sort a dinner!

You’ve never had pizza for tea because you can’t be arsed to cook? Jesus, I take it you are one of those martyr parents?
