To think it's normal to tie your hair back to poo or eat?

Came up in conversation with a friend, we both have just below the shoulder length hair. I tie my hair back/up whenever I go for a poo or eat a meal and she thinks this is really odd, is it? 🤔 I've always done it and thought it was something a lot of people do, especially when eating.

Really, really odd...

Throwing up, yes, but the rest is plain bonkers...

I don’t tie my hair back for those ‘occasions’. I l always wonder at women who have longer hair and tie it back all the time. Just cut it short!

I do this. My hair is tied back and clipped up every morning and only untied in the evening. I like to be prepared for any practical situation where hair might need to be tied back (cooking, sports etc) so it seems easier to just have it tied back all the time. I'd find it annoying to have to tie it and untie it several times a day for cooking, eating etc.

Having it cut short would be higher maintenance than having long hair which I can tie back as I'd have to go to a hairdresser more often.

My DH can’t poo without taking his top off.

wellington77 · 11/07/2025 20:10

To poo?! What on earth for?!!! that is very odd

Shitmonger · 11/07/2025 20:40

I put mine up when I’m home and leave it down when I’m out. I have ADHD and I think I’m more aware of it at home when I’m (mostly) at leisure, so that’s why it bothers me more. I also put it up when I’m with my horses obviously as otherwise it’s in the way.

PollyBell · 11/07/2025 21:07

My hair is always tied back but no if I wore it down it would be down I would not tie ot back to eat or go to the toilet, they are new ones on me

CornflowerDusk · 11/07/2025 21:09

Yes it's odd

Londonrach1 · 11/07/2025 21:09

Not normal.

I like mine down but have to tie it up at the moment so that the baby doesn't pull it out in chunks 😅

Smokesandeats · 11/07/2025 21:17

Maybe the friend is worried about getting splashback water on her hair with dropping a huge log down the loo. Normal ladylike, dainty rabbit droppings shouldn’t cause any problems.

Yes, that’s odd.

amyds2104 · 11/07/2025 22:17

It’s weird but I never liked wearing a mask during Covid when I went for a wee or poo and I always roll my sleeves/remove jumpers 😂

Muffsies · 11/07/2025 23:21

I thought that long, exertive poos were a man's domain? If you had a condition like ibs, or ulcerative colitis, id understand the preparation, and I'd probably hand you a sweat band too.

prelovedusername · 11/07/2025 23:32

Complete guess - is it that you are leaning forward on the loo so you tie your hair back to stop it draping all around your face? If I had long hair I could see myself doing this!

AmusedOpalShaker · 11/07/2025 23:44

Eating, yes.

I’m now left wondering how violent your shits are. 💩💨

Plumnora · 11/07/2025 23:55

You are definitely NOT being unreasonable!!! I also tie my hair back to do all these things. And more.
And yet I hate having short hair!!!
I hear you OP!

MyCoralHedgehog · 12/07/2025 09:37

Something new for us to worry about!

I love my long hair but it bugs me in the heat so I tie it back sometimes. I dont suit short hair at all!

If your hair is at risk of getting poo on it when you go to the toilet, its a doctor you are needing to see!

Courgettezuchinni · 12/07/2025 13:09

Unless you have bum length hair why would you tie it back for a poo? Or to eat? 🤔

I used to have long hair as a child and it was tied up for school and for bed (to avoid knots as I hated DM detangling my hair in the morning!)

ObelixtheGaul · 12/07/2025 15:44

Interesting how we are all different. I love the feel of hair down my back and oddly feel hotter when it's tied up. It's very thick and tie up needs to be high at the moment because of a stupid layer from a bad cut I am growing out. So too much hair up top makes my head overheat.

I have a fringe so I can see, but hair hides/distracts from my awful jaw.

Moii · 12/07/2025 18:10

Weird one

christinaks · 12/07/2025 18:24

Yes I tie my hair up to poo same reason I would fir any other white knuckle ride.

Dawnb19 · 12/07/2025 18:58

This can't be real? So if you need the toilet do you put a hair tie in? How bizarre. Your not going to get poo in your hair. 🫣
