We need someone with backbone to put forward an alternative political viewpoint.

Well splitting the Labour vote leaves the door wide open for Reform.
Is that what you actually want ?

I doubt very much whether any left wing people could stomach voting for Labour again.

SleepQuest33 · 04/07/2025 07:01

I don’t like extremists, even if they’re to the far left.

he would send boats to the channel to help those crossing!!!!

his vision doesn’t work in the real world, the country would go bankrupt.

its going to help reform get in which is the worse that can happen!

it’s very bad news.

creakingwheels · 04/07/2025 07:02

All the posters supporting this! That’s the striking thing about the ‘progressive’ left. It doesn’t matter how hard they fail, they never learn any lessons from it, but just keep on doing the same things that keep failing.

Their belief in their own righteousness blinds them to the lived consequences of their own behaviour.

ColinOfficeTrolley · 04/07/2025 07:03

These comments are terrifying. Do people actually believe that Reform have the wherewithal to run the country?

It was partly Jeremy Corbyn’s lack of backbone that led to Brexit.

Platosrevenge · 04/07/2025 07:06

Erm he’s had to back track because of his spineless party who can’t face the reality of an economy destroyed by the Tories. How a nation can cope with a huge and rapidly increasing percentage of people dependent on benefits and unable to work god only knows. People are moaning about ‘change’ but the country has been fucked by Brexit and Tory mismanagement and there’s literally no leeway.

It’s great news. It means that what little hope Labour had has now been officially extinguished. Reform and Conservatives will now be clear front 2 parties by an absolute country mile at the next GE.

I don't think you're right there. Conservatives are already done. Will see if this affects Labour.

No one can be happy about it because it isn't true. While Corbyn has long hinted at plans to establish a more organised vehicle for leftwing and pro-Palestinian campaigning, he has so far avoided confirming any formal structure or leadership arrangements. Nor has he committed to the project becoming a party, or endorsed any specific leadership rroles. Zarah Sultana went off-piste, and allegedly Corbyn is less than delighted about her announcement.

mids2019 · 04/07/2025 07:15

Zarah Sultnana's constituency has a large Muslim component so she is playing to her crowd. I do wonder if the is the most effective MP for the white working class in her patch?

MrsBennetsPoorNerves · 04/07/2025 07:17

There was already an alternative party on the left - the Green Party.

I'm not sure what this new party will achieve, other than further splitting the left wing vote and enhancing Farage's chances.

Summeriscumin · 04/07/2025 07:18

And off they fuck into a well deserved obscurity.

Corbyn has no credibility with most people, even those on the left of centre as was proven when he was leader.

gapyr · 04/07/2025 07:19

Never usually comment on politics but get real… Corbyn had his chance - more than most people do as labour leader - and failed us. Why on earth would you think he’d do anything better second time around is beyond me. He’s been my mp since I was a child. No thank you. He lives in a parallel universe

Doubtful that she cares much about them or their local issues.

DeafLeppard · 04/07/2025 07:23

This is great for Labour, the deluded idiots with sixth form politics call all hive off into Magic Grandpa’s tea club that will eventually eat itself in purity spirals, whilst the more realistic centre left can concentrate on looking sane and delivering on a half decent country.

Labour supporters need to realise it’s not the left fringes that wins elections, it’s the floaters. And Reform’s slick PR needs some serious countering - but most important is to recognise that giving yourself the warm and fuzzies about how we give benefits to everyone is a fast tract to bankrupting us, and then you have no deliverable social agenda.

DeafLeppard · 04/07/2025 07:24

Also, things the electorate (the kind who can put you in power)don’t care about: Palestine, the Iraq war, and probably the EU.

SOMEONE needs to stand up against Reform! The last thing we need is that lot of Trump loving, NHS hating. rich-people tax saving kuntz in power!

Corbyn has the balls AND he'd have a lot of support from Labour voters who are disappointed with the current government being too centrist.

If they want to stop reform this is the worst thing they can do. They are splitting the left vote and making it more likely reform will get in.

SALaw · 04/07/2025 07:28

I’m glad some people are happy, because all the reports indicate that Corbyn himself is furious about the announcement

I think many do have opinions on these things but are mainly preoccupied with issues that affect their own lives like -

Cost of living
State of the NHS
Cost of housing

HelenaWaiting · 04/07/2025 07:28

@Gerbilboy The Zionist ploy to smear Corbyn has been thoroughly debunked.

Yeah, but only by Corbyn.

ArtTheClown · 04/07/2025 07:29

I wonder how many people annoyed about the importance given to Palestine would have brushed off the Nazis as nothing to do with us too.

You do know that we didn't fight against the Nazis because of that? It was purely because they invaded Poland who we had a defence treaty with.
The death camps and extent of the persecution were only revealed once the Allied troops got to Germany.

More broadly, most of the British electorate is not obsessive about Palestine. Most voters would like MPs to focus on the myriad of issues we have within the country.

Summertime62 · 04/07/2025 07:29

Im not. It will split voters and give reform a higher chance of getting in.

Soontobe60 · 04/07/2025 07:31

Mumble12 · 03/07/2025 23:41

I’m not a fan of everything this Labour government have done and I am a huge fan of Zarah’s. But I think this is bad news unfortunately. I would happily support her, but as others have said, this will split the Labour voters and allow Farage to waltz in to number 10.

I just hope the people critiquing this government for being too harsh are happy with whatever Reform manage. Those that think millionaire grifter Farage is going to help the poor and vulnerable are living in cuckoo land.

I could never support a woman who believes men-who-think-they-are-women are actual women. Anyone who puts the demands of AGP males first and others who think children should be given PBs like sweeties on demand is a very dangerous person, regardless as to where they stand on other political issues.
