We need someone with backbone to put forward an alternative political viewpoint.

I worry that splitting Labour votes may be counterproductive .
However, nobody I know considers our government to reflect real Labour values.
Ultimately, this is I think a good thing and Starmer & co should pay attention.

My thought process completely

OonaStubbs · 06/07/2025 23:54

What are "real Labour values"?

What are "real Labour values"?

A focus on the public services that the vast majority of us rely on.

Prioritising public services over big business

Promoting equality.

There are lots of other things but these are the issues that are at the top of my list.

The former Labour leader Neil Kinnock said Mr Corbyn and Ms Sultana would “only assist the enemies of Labour” by forming a breakaway challenger party.

Asked how much of a threat he thought any new party could be, after Mr Corbyn suggested that discussions were underway, Lord Kinnock said: “I understand they are having a bit of difficulty over thinking of a name.

“In a comradely way, I’d suggest one. It would be the Farage assistance group.”

It emerged on Sunday that Mr Corbyn’s top team had repeatedly urged Ms Sultana to walk back the announcement, and even asked her to delete it once he had seen it. The Sunday Times reported that Mr Corbyn’s wife, Laura Alvarez, also urged Ms Sultana to delete social media posts unveiling the new venture, but was ignored.

Messages seen by the paper show that Pamela Fitzpatrick, a co-director at Mr Corbyn’s Peace and Justice Project, said in a group chat: “Neither Jeremy nor Laura deserves to be treated with such a lack of respect.”

Corbyn and Sultana’s new breakaway party will only boost Farage, Neil Kinnock warns

I can see why they’re putting out stories to counter. A gathering on the further left would take some Labour votes.

Well splitting the Labour vote leaves the door wide open for Reform.
Is that what you actually want ?

This.

He made the Labour Party unelectable for years but might have just enough votes to split the vote as Reform did to the Tories. And his loathing for the EU was partly responsible for Brexit but you want him to be prominent in British politics? I can only imagine you're a Reform voter/candidate.

Absolutely ... add ageist to the list.

We need something that's not the bloody awful Labour Party as a left alternative.

You don't want Corbyn then, he's left of left.

Ah, and do tell us how they will be funded. Without just saying 'taxation'.

YANBU to be happy. This is box office entertainment. It's like the Chuckle Brothers starting a new party. The two most permanently aggregates lunatics were always going to be a dysfunctional catastrophe waiting to happen. Can't wait for Season 2.

Susan Hall's comment is pretty pathetic. Why does she have to travel to Palestine? It's entirely possible to have a view on somewhere without living there. I knew apartheid South Africa was wrong without spending any time there.

Plenty of people in the UK who are no fans of the monarchy.

Well Sultana seems more interested in Palestine than her own constituency or the rest of the UK so it seems like a reasonable suggestion. She was screeching away outside Bronzefield Prison recently, she’s just a one trick pony - if it’s not Palestine she’s not interested

For some people (including quite a lot of Ms Sultana's constituents) Palestine is one of the most important global issues at the moment.
As far as I'm aware, Susan Hall is not one of her constituents

lazyarse123 · 01/01/2026 21:24

Corbyn is and always has been ineffective and Sultana is just a nutcase.
Her reply on that fb post was extremely immature and ageist. If you have a reasoned argument then use it.
Apart from anything else our mps should be sorting out this country before interfering in other countries. They are not paid to make ridiculous fb post about abolishing the monarchy. They should really be aware of how things work.

Thankfully I'm not one of her constituents either but, like Susan Hall, I'm entitled to an opinion on her. Personally I'd rather my MP showed some interest in local issues but then posting crap on X and pitching up in other constituencies causing trouble.

I’m no fan of the monarchy. But I find her ageist retort immature and disappointing- not something I want to see in the leader of a political party. Shame. She seems very silly now.
