We need someone with backbone to put forward an alternative political viewpoint.

I hold corbyn responsible for brexit.

And i won't vote for a party that makes a country half way around the world its priority.

At thus rate I will be spoiling my vote at the next GE.

How hard is it to have a party that protects the most vulnerable in our society and fixes our housing and NHS problems through traditional left policies, while refusing identity politics and taking a tough stand on immigration?

I know but also the size of the U.K. now and its needs. That work in Scandinavia but here much more difficult to get back to. Specially as so many pay so little in tax as wages are low plus many are on welfare. This is why Labour can’t afford to fix the issues. Yes, there is money wasted but the bill is just too high and the war on the people who create wealth has backfired. People are leaving.

It breaks my heart to say this but I think Labour have become more right wing than the Tories are.

I am totally horrified at the cuts to disability payments for the most vulnerable people. I work in public services and see things getting worse not better.

I think that a more left wing presence is a good thing, to challenge, and hold Starmer accountable .

Completely fed up with being led by billionaires.

Same here.

My DF, a Labour voter all his life and a Labour member for much of it, would be turning in his grave at how far to the right Labour have moved. I think the Lib Dems are further left than Labour on many things now.

It'll be good to have a left alternative to the current plethora of right-wing and centrist parties.

I could never support a woman who believes men-who-think-they-are-women are actual women. Anyone who puts the demands of AGP males first and others who think children should be given PBs like sweeties on demand is a very dangerous person, regardless as to where they stand on other political issues.

Well that’s all hyperbole. No one is given any medication l’like sweeties’ in the UK.

we’re all different aren’t we, I can’t imagine being so invested in what’s in someine else’s pants for example

YABU Corbyn is a vile racist and Sultana is anti-womens rights. They are both absolute garbage people. I would vote for them very last before any other group. They're scum. If they are the answer, the question is beyond deplorable.

What on earth makes you think Corbyn's a racist? I've heard him speak at many Labour events over the last 40-odd years, and met him several times. I've never heard so much as a hint of racism from him.

And being a racist would be a bit at odds for his long history of opposition to apartheid. I first met him at an anti-apartheid vigil outside South Africa House.

CircusofPuffins · 04/07/2025 08:41

Such is the extent of the anti-immigration sentiment in this country, a far left party that will do absolutely nothing about the boats crossing hasn't got a hope in hell's chance of getting anywhere near power. Not with Corbyn involved.

This is very true.

They have no hope of winning but could either help or hinder the main Labour Party by branching off ( results remain to be seen).

No they won’t win. Earliest predictions by pollsters already are at 1 in 10 voters. Enough to recalibrate Labour and Greens with a few MPs.

caringcarer · 04/07/2025 08:51

A poll says JC and ZS party would gain 10 percent of vote. That's 3 percent from Labour, 4 percent from Greens, 1 percent from Scottish democrats and apparently get 2 percent of new voters who don't currently vote at all. Leaving Reform UK a big lead on 29 percent over Labour and Tories tied on 20 percent. It's in Daily Mail.

If Labour push through 16 year old votes it’d be interesting to see where they’d go.

Genevieva · 04/07/2025 08:58

I agree Labour have left the traditional left, but I don’t think they have moved to the traditional right. They just seem to be identical to the Tories because the Tories left the traditional right long ago too. Both seem to be beholden to the whims of the unelected blob, who are basically pro globalisation and globalist agendas at any cost. We have the highest taxes in our history. We should be able to afford the most generous, well functioning welfare state in our history too, but we can’t because it’s not a spending priority for them. Instead, we are crippling the economy without benefitting the electorate.

FatherFrosty · 04/07/2025 09:00

I’m so worried about the split vote situation. We can’t give reform an inch

Wasn't in the last King's Speech and this sort of big constitutional reform tends to happen in first session legislation in a Parliament or not at all. I might be wrong but I can see that along with abolishing hereditary peers being quietly dropped.

I wonder how many people annoyed about the importance given to Palestine would have brushed off the Nazis as nothing to do with us too.

You do know that we didn't fight against the Nazis because of that? It was purely because they invaded Poland who we had a defence treaty with.
The death camps and extent of the persecution were only revealed once the Allied troops got to Germany.

More broadly, most of the British electorate is not obsessive about Palestine. Most voters would like MPs to focus on the myriad of issues we have within the country.

I’m aware that invading Poland triggered the ww2 but when did all the kinder transport happen if we didn’t know anything about the persecution of the Jews?

I too struggle with people who suggest the starving and killing of people in Gaza is none of our business. I was raised not to look the other way and my family lost loved ones in ww2 trying to help people far from our homes.

Zarah Sultana has the biggest social media following of any MP. She's very popular with young people.

Labour are toast anyway at the next GE. There could be a massive swing from Labour to Corbyn's party. The historical Tory voters won't be voting against Sunak either, so as long as the Tories have an electable leader at that time, their core voters could be back in the fold - if not, then yes Reform will keep their votes! I'd also expect quite a few Labour MP's jumping ship if Corbyn's party takes off. So it could be quite a two horse race between Corbyn and Reform ending up with some kind of coalition. You have to remember it's not just tory voters who swapped to Reform. A lot of "workers" who'd typically vote Labour are fed up as well and are primed and ready to vote Reform or Corbyn!

There will in no way shape or form be a massive swing to Corbyn's party. He was leader for years and Labour spent that period of time in the wilderness.

If this allows Labour to become a more realistic centre left party, that is a Very Good Thing for Labour. I reckon next election will be a Lib/Lab coalition against Reform, in which case PR needs to be a priority.

Mumble12 · 04/07/2025 09:03

In four years time, the first time voters will have far different political priorities than the last 4 years. I think a new party from
Corbyn & Sultana would gain a lot of that vote. They’re both very active on social media & speak about issues that matter to that demographic.

And yet none of the evidence suggests that young people will vote for Corbyn. Young men in particular are far more likely to vote Reform/rightwing.

mutinyonthetwix · 04/07/2025 09:06

Feels a bit fork in the road. If Corbyn can focus on domestic issues affecting daily lives like cost of living, social care, NHS etc then I can see him making some headway because it's pretty obvious that Labour nor the Conservatives have any answers to these problems. The risk is he muddles his party messages with big macro global "Stop the War" type issues which will only make so much headway.

And the majority of Muslims are from what ethnic backgrounds? Stop hiding behind fig leaves.
