To hope that Trump gets his Nobel Peace Prize?

I do not like anything about the man.

BUT, he is clearly after peace. I think he wants peace for two reasons; one, to enable more golf time, and two, to win a Nobel Peace Prize.
I don’t think the reason is because he is super kind and thoughtful or anything.

I think that his odd and unpredictable behaviour is starting to make other world leaders afraid of him (not to be confused with respect).
When others say ‘don’t do this or we will sanction you’ he says ‘don’t break your nuclear rules or I’ll bomb you’ and then proceeds to actually do so without delay.

This strange, autocratic, narcissistic style will either lead to huge issues, or might just be crazy enough to make other tyrants think twice about how they act. Enabling more time for golf.

I probably haven’t explained it very well. But his actions, whatever we think of them, have pretty much stopped the fledgling Israel/Iran war in its tracks. I wonder how long it would have gone on with nothing but disapproving glances and aid from the western world.

To reiterate: I don’t like Trump, I don’t think he’s right, but I do have to wonder whether his slightly unhinged leadership style might not scare the rest of the world into behaving a bit better.

YABU - I am talking rubbish
YANBU - I don’t like it either, but you might have a point

Nothing that Trump does is for the better good

it is always about how he, not Americans, how he shall gain

YABU

wake up and smell the coffee

In April of this year (2025) Trump's White House proposed dramatic cuts to the U.S. State Department's budget including halting nearly all of the department's funding to NATO. The United States funds 16% of NATO's budget. The worst is Trump has repeatedly threatened to withdraw. With Putin in Ukraine and eyeballing European countries to whom we are sworn to protect, this is a big problem.

gamerchick · 26/06/2025 22:48

I don't. I think he's had thoughts about changing the constitution so he can't get booted out, realised he can't, so wants to do the wartime president thing instead.

Bingo!

XWKD · 27/06/2025 00:41

Trump wants peace for the people he deems worthy. He has no problem with annihilating Palestinians.

MuckFusk · 27/06/2025 00:43

MovingBird123 · 26/06/2025 08:31

Not being unreasonable at all. I am also absolutely no fan, but he oversaw the Abraham Accords, and his no-nonsense approach with Iran appears to work. We forget that the ME doesn't speak the same military language as us in the West, but he is speaking volumes there. Thank you, Trump!

Iran still has nukes, even America's own intelligence has revealed that. Iran has not agreed to stop developing nuclear weapons. So I don't know where the working part comes into it. As far as I can see the rest of the world is in the same jeopardy it was before.

Oh dear OP! You have triggered the predictable MN ‘orange man bad’ knee jerk response 🤣 I agree with you - the situation is complex and nuanced. Trump has numerous flaws but he has much more chance of achieving an outcome than Kamala if she’d been elected

MuckFusk · 27/06/2025 00:46

Argh. There went another thread down the Israel/Palestine black hole. Those arguments are always exhausting and fruitless. Can't we just stick to slamming Trump? Much more fun. Who's with me on that?

Why do you say that Harris couldn't have done whatever it is that you think the orange rapist did? If you're referring to the bombing, the appropriate word is wouldn't. She probably wouldn't have bombed Iran, and they'd still have nukes, which they have now. The bombing was unsuccessful at destroying them. So the world would be in the same place with Harris there, just less pissed off at America.

There is no nuance involved in whether or not Trump should get the Nobel. That's as clear cut as it gets. He shouldn't and he won't.

SnowFrogJelly · 27/06/2025 01:07

The orange man is bad…

outerspacepotato · 27/06/2025 01:14

If Trump ever gets a Nobel Peace Prize, I will know I am living in a carnival of madness.

It's worse than anything Kafka could ever dream up.

2021x · 27/06/2025 02:42

No... not because of his actions, but because he just doesn't have the skills and contact to broker peace. It takes an extrordinary person to gain the trust of the governments of Iran/Israel/Palestine.

This is not possible for Trump.

Linzi2377 · 27/06/2025 02:45

Obama got npp after 6 weeks in office and went on to start 6 wars.. none of which were at war with the United States and without Congressional approval..he was embarrassed to receive it atleast

Topseyt123 · 27/06/2025 03:05

Trump and "Peace" do not belong in the same sentence.

He's a convicted felon and rapist who should never have been allowed to run for president in the first place. He isn't at all intelligent. In fact, he's as thick as shit. There has never been a more stupid US President. Ever.

The Nobel Peace Prize would be severely cheapened were it to be offered to him.

In summary, yes, I m afraid you are talking bollocks. Sorry.

sashh · 27/06/2025 03:51

OhShutUpThomas · 26/06/2025 07:54

No I don’t see any of those things as peaceful.

What I’m saying is that I genuinely believe that, for his own selfish reasons, Trump wants peace in the wider world. And that if he is actually nuts enough to scare others into behaving better, that would only be a benefit surely?

I don’t mean that I think he’s right or clever.

He says he wants peace, he is an idiot. To get 'peace' in Afghanistan he negotiated and handed over to the Taliban.

I know the pull out was under Bidon but it was Trump's idea and negotiations.

RoniPepper · 27/06/2025 06:02

So far he's failed to do anything remotely effective to stop the war in Ukraine (stopping military aid and appeasing Putin clearly aren't working).

IsItSnowing · 27/06/2025 06:58

wordywitch · 26/06/2025 08:10

Make no mistake - everything Trump does is not for peace but in pursuit of his own self interests and that of the US. He sees everything as a business deal or opportunity, and if he thinks a particular country, war or skirmish is bad for business, he will quash it. But if it suits him, the country, or the right wing narrative, war is just fine. He’s not after peace, he’s after accolades and money.

Exactly

Given trump a Nobel peace prize is like shagging for virginity.

CATomas · 27/06/2025 13:53

Sidebirds, I may be a bore and Trump remains insane. A purely delusional madman. Quite Hitlerian.

Quirkswork · 27/06/2025 15:31

What do we think Putin has on Trump? It must he something Trump would actually get embarrassed or damaged by and I can't think of anything he wouldn't just brush off or pardon himself for.

Serpentstooth · 27/06/2025 15:42

YABU since you have to ask. I hope he doesn't get the Nobel. I hope he gets what he deserves. Lots of it.

The piss tapes

They've been known about for years though. Trump doesn't seem to be much bothered. I feel like it must be something more interesting. Or "interesting"...
