To have insisted on DH doing his ‘business’ at work when we were down to one bathroom

I told my friends this last night who found it amusing so would be interested to hear if they are the only ones!

We were down to just our upstairs bathroom this week as the downstairs bathroom was being re-done (finally finished yesterday afternoon).

Given the heat, DH was told that he should do his usual morning business when he arrives at his work rather than use the upstairs bathroom, as I didn’t fancy the smell festering all morning in this heat.

DH was fine with this - AIBU to have made such a request?!

Why don’t you have to leave the house to use the bathroom?

FuckoffeeBeforeCoffee · 21/06/2025 08:37

That’s really weird.

Dramatic · 21/06/2025 08:37

Does he not know how to flush?

Why don’t you have to leave the house to use the bathroom?

Because I don’t produce such nuclear level stenches, to be frank!

I think you know you are being massively unreasonable . . . . .

Boredlass · 21/06/2025 08:38

I’d have told you to jog on. No way I’d agree to this especially as I’d never do that at work anyway. I live in the house so I’ll shit in the house

countrygirl99 · 21/06/2025 08:38

If a bloke insisted his wife did this there would be cries of leave the controlling bastard.

Littlejellyuk · 21/06/2025 08:38

Buy air freshener and toilet duck.
Simples 😉

Onelifeonly · 21/06/2025 08:38

It's his home too? Don't you have windows or air freshener (I'm not a fan of the latter but if needs must.....)

Pleasealexa · 21/06/2025 08:39

So you not have windows?

On one hand I understand and your husband has been considerate, on the other side of your husband asked this of you, would you agree?

historyrepeatz · 21/06/2025 08:39

If you did would you want your DH telling your friends about it? Also would his colleagues figure out it’s him?

KillerMounjaro · 21/06/2025 08:40

So rather than upset his own wife by doing a poo, you’ve made him inflict the smell on the entire office.

It’s a personal choice, but unless completely unavoidable, I would never do a poo at work.

LlynTegid · 21/06/2025 08:40

Why should his work colleagues suffer? Just open windows, or have some change in diet.

Notateacheranymore · 21/06/2025 08:40

Bloody hell, I have two poos usually before I leave the house in the morning. I wouldn’t even make it to the end of the road much less the 35 minutes to the office. And 50% of my time is WFH. What then?

My husband is also, at times, a stinker. Guess what, so am I sometimes. Open the window and chill out.

tilypu · 21/06/2025 08:41

Ofc yabu. But I'm pretty sure you know that and don't care.

MemorableTrenchcoat · 21/06/2025 08:41

The man can’t do a shit in his own home? Talk about controlling.

Alaoap · 21/06/2025 08:41

Yabu, he can just febreeze or he can open the window. All shit smells, you just find a way to deal with that, that isn’t like you can’t shit in the room in our house that is literally for that very purpose.

OddBoots · 21/06/2025 08:42

Does your bathroom not have a window?

ThriveIn2025 · 21/06/2025 08:42

LlynTegid · 21/06/2025 08:40

This. We don’t poo where I work. It’s one shared toilet and there is a very much spoken rule regarding this.

hididdlyho · 21/06/2025 08:42

So you were happy to inflict the nuclear stench on his work colleagues instead? 😆

Personally I wouldn't appreciate my DH suggesting when and where I should shit and vice versa, but it doesn't sound like you DH was offended.

Starlight7080 · 21/06/2025 08:42

So he helps pay for a house he can't even s##t in ! Mental.
You sound like hard work.
Have you heard of opening windows .
Air freshener
Bleach
And so on.
What do you think people with one bathroom do !

Coffeeishot · 21/06/2025 08:43

You are insane both of you ! Do you not have a window and some airfreshner.

This x 100

FFS

What about all his work colleagues??

BeardieWeirdie · 21/06/2025 08:43

I have a poo within about 10 minutes of getting up, there’s no way I’d agree to your plan. If he stinks, surely a squirt of cleaner will sort it (for him to do, obviously). Having “only” one loo is the norm in my world, not some terrible affliction.

FlightCommanderPRJohnson · 21/06/2025 08:43

How do you think the thousands of people who live in houses that only have one toilet manage?

Talk about first world problems! 😂
