To have insisted on DH doing his ‘business’ at work when we were down to one bathroom

I told my friends this last night who found it amusing so would be interested to hear if they are the only ones!

We were down to just our upstairs bathroom this week as the downstairs bathroom was being re-done (finally finished yesterday afternoon).

Given the heat, DH was told that he should do his usual morning business when he arrives at his work rather than use the upstairs bathroom, as I didn’t fancy the smell festering all morning in this heat.

DH was fine with this - AIBU to have made such a request?!

He works in a large corporate office - capacity for about 3/4000 employees. It’s not a single toilet in a cramped space!

Surly that is worse if the stench is as and with the smell spreading and people smelling it

We technically have the en-suite too, but that has always been firmly out of bounds for anything but a shower!

For goodness sake. So you are not actually “down to one” loo at all, but “down to two”. That makes it even more ridiculous and unnecessary. If his poo stinks out the family bathroom you can just use the ensuite so your nose isn’t offended.

This is the most first-world, spoiled complaint I’ve ever read on Munsnet.

i suspect you have a habit of telling your poor husband what he is and isn’t allowed to do…

BuckChuckets · 21/06/2025 09:07

I imagine the OP as a wannabe Hyacinth Bucket, and her DH a poor, downtrodden cocker spaniel being scolded for 'doing his business' 😂

This. We don’t poo where I work. It’s one shared toilet and there is a very much spoken rule regarding this.

Wtf?!?!?!?! What would someone do with IBD or you know just need a shit do? Do they have to leave work and shit at home?

You are controlling and quite frankly not very nice to your dh.

Caerulea · 21/06/2025 09:08

I think this is the thread I've most missed the '😂' reaction on

Berlinlover · 21/06/2025 09:09

Poor man not being allowed to poo in his own home. Absolutely insane.

TranceNation · 21/06/2025 09:09

What does he do at weekends then? Pop into the office or a public toilet to have a dump? Come on, give your head a wobble. This insistence of yours is absolutely ridiculous and proper red flag territory.

How the hell does that work? I have IBS - there's some days where I'd have no choice!

lessglittermoremud · 21/06/2025 09:10

Until recent renovations there were 5 of us with only one bathroom as that was all our house and I’m the only girl…
You were being massively unreasonable by dictating that he couldn’t use his own bathroom to poo in, I’m wondering why he didn’t just refuse.
My DH would have laughed thinking I was joking and then outright refused, after he uses the bathroom the window is opened he swishes bleach around the toilet and shuts the door, problem solved .
I would look at your diets if his faeces are so disgustingly foul that you can’t stand him using the same facilities as yourself.

I have IBS so where would I poo if I worked with you?

The work has concluded and it looks like this is the final day of the heatwave, but if needed then he goes to the gym on weekend mornings so we had a contingency plan of him going there.

People are so weird, poor bloke.

If a partner tried telling me where to shit I’d be reevaluating the whole relationship tbh.

Sharptonguedwoman · 21/06/2025 09:12

Ridiculous.

Haha! Good one OP!

Candleabra · 21/06/2025 09:13

This has to be a wind up. So you have two bathrooms, neither of which are to be used… What do you propose at weekends?

It’s normal in a lot of workplaces I think, not a ban but you just try not to stink up the communal loo if you can avoid it. Just out of courtesy to colleagues.

i also used to have IBSD and was always v conscious of it 😩

Because I don’t produce such nuclear level stenches, to be frank!

What goes on in men’s guts?! My husband could stink out a castle

NeedToChangeName · 21/06/2025 09:14

Poor man, to be bullied and shamed about a bodily function

If you were my friend, this would change my view of you

TheAmusedQuail · 21/06/2025 09:15

Absolutely, 100% justified.

Colleagues will just have to grin and bear the nuclear stench unfortunately!

Pathetic.

ButteredRadishes · 21/06/2025 09:15

Why doesn't he address the gastric issues he has?

Username075 · 21/06/2025 09:15

Hilarious 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼

KeyWorker · 21/06/2025 09:15

It sounds like the kind of thing me and DH would say to each other, clearly as a joke. Obviously nether of us would in reality be told by the other which toilet we could use and for what purpose. It’s not clear from your tone if this is in jest, but obviously it must be.

Completely batshit.
