I was reading about a woman stuck in Turkey. She was there with her partner who was having teeth implants. So they got drunk and she fell against the glasss shower screen in the hotel. And it smashed. So they did a runner. Police chase. Got caught put in jail. Told they owed £15k or else. Sad face. Hmm. Though it does seem very steep for a shower screen.

I've only read your description of whats happened. It's pure British comedy isn't it

I suspect there is far more damage than just the shower screen. I have no sympathy eiher.

It is steep, compared to what would happen in the uk. But it never ceases to amaze me how people think they can cause damage / steal / break the law in another country, and then moan about the punishment. You have to question why they ran off, chances are if they’d stayed around and admitted fault they wouldn’t be in jail right now.

I saw this story too, totally laughable. And she’s set up a go fund me to help with her costs! Which some people have been stupid gullible enough to contribute to.

I am not saying it's right, but the report I read said she and he took drugs, trashed the room, and smashed the shower screen. It depends on how much damage there is; plus, if the glass screen damaged the shower and tray, it may need a whole replacement. Add into that cleaners and workmen's fees, and you would be talking about a big amount. Yet again, the British giving the British a bad reputation.😡🙄

More to this story than just smashing the shower screen. If that happened (even if done on purpose) you’d just tell the hotel that you fell and it smashed. They’d be scared that you’d want to sue them so wouldn’t be calling the police.

Drink and drugs must have been involved and a lot more damage to the hotel room.

I read about that too and I don't feel sorry for her either.
In the report I read (so taking with a pinch of salt) she also admitted that she "did damage to the room" as well as smashing the glass shower screen, which makes the fine she's got to pay, make more sense in the amount she has to pay.

I don't understand how any decent adult would ever think it was okay to sneak out of a hotel and try and "escape" knowing they've caused an expensive repair - if it was just the showerscreen, she could have simply said she'd fallen in the shower and she'd be in a much better position than she is now.

To me, it screamed "chav" to be honest - not because she got drunk and not because she broke the shower screen, but because she tried to do one without being caught.

She’s only sorry because she’s facing her consequences for once. I bet she’s rough as anything.

It does make you wonder as a single parent who is a cleaner how she can fund this lifestyle. Also has she told DWP if she claims any benefits that she is on an extended trip abroad as surely being out of the country for this length of time should invalidate any UK benefits that she claims

In the gofundme it says her family raised the money she needed to pay but then she didn't pay it because the lawyer said it's too much, so instead the money is dwindling on her living expenses over there🤔🤔

Of course I feel sorry for her, she's in fucking jail, it's not as funny as you think it is.

She was only in jail for 1 day.
She's just in Turkey now, apparently she can't leave until she pays the money, her family raised the money but her lawyer said they're looking for too much so she didn't pay it.

She's in jail due to a mess of her own making.

She should have paid it and worked it out after getting home.
Her lawyer is an idiot.
In fact, they're all idiots.
