He’s on This Morning right now. He makes my skin crawl. Him and Ben Shepherd together is like the duo from Hell.

YANBU - he’s such a creepy man
YABU - he’s a fine upstanding member of society, you’re the creepy one here

I used to know him. I wouldn't have called him "creepy" but definitely "off" and unlikeable. Bad mannered.

I worked in publishing for years and now work in an adjacent industry. When my friends worked for his publisher, they were told - as young women - never to be alone with him and to always have others around. Take that as you will, he is a massive creep.

If only the company Fremantle, who makes BGT, had taken care to tell their young women staff members the same thing.

PorgyandBess · 20/05/2025 14:29

In the interest of balance, I don’t find him creepy 🤷‍♀️

My son used to love his books when he was little. I recently gave them to my 7 year old nephew, he loves them too.

It's not gut feeling, it's based on evidence. He presents himself in a way in which his humour solely revolves around mocking others and making them feel uncomfortable. His books are gross, his comedy unfunny and he was caught verbally abusing his colleagues who actually make the whole show on BGT.

To be fair most comics work on making people uncomfortable and most used to take the piss out of others before they were quietened, some still do. So he isn't unique there. I don't think his books are gross or his comedy unfunny but people have different opinions on that, fair enough, however given his commercial success it seems I am in the overwhelming majority. If anything the 'evidence' suggests he is an extremely popular and successful man. I don't know about the BGT incident. Maybe he is an awful colleague, maybe not, I dont know him so can't have an opinion.

Shufflebumnessie · 20/05/2025 14:31

He has always made my skin crawl. I honestly wouldn't be the least bit surprised if all sorts of skeletons started coming out of the closet!
Thankfully my children don't like his books as from the little I've read they are awful, from both the writing and the character/stereotyping/bullying perspective.

Dontlletmedownbruce · 20/05/2025 12:49

This is a rather horrible thread. You don't have to like his books comedy or interviews but suggesting there is something deeply sinister about a man you don't know because of your gut feeling and then stating it on a public forum is really poor form.

I agree. It seems to me that someone comes on here out of the blue, posts a nasty comment about someone and all of a sudden there are loads of people jumping on the bandwagon agreeing with them. If they felt so strongly about the subject matter, why didn’t they come on and raise the subject themselves?
It’s as if we are a load of sheep! Guillotine mentality and unfair.

Take a look at his Wikipedia page under controversies and you may change your mind.

I believe you can and should have an opinion about a celebrity's character. If he was just some unknown author or a bloke who works down the chip shop, then fair enough. But he's acted appalling and got caught out. He treated his ex, that scandi model really badly as well.

Shelllendyouhertoothbrushtoo · 20/05/2025 14:36

And his books have a fat/ugly person joke/insult every other paragraph. I couldn't believe it when my kids started reading them. Great way to give weight anxiety to kids and promote fat shaming - your favourite author hates fat people and laughs at them.

Unpaidviewer · 20/05/2025 14:39

You'd cover your drink if you were stood near him at a party, wouldn't you?

I have always found it odd that he worked with the other guy, because he seems quite nice.

Even worse is the fact that he narrated his entire collection onto CD/audiobook. You then get to hear him do every stereotyped character in their full stereotype accent glory. It really is appalling.

SunsetCocktails · 20/05/2025 14:40

Yep, creepy vibes.

Whatever he’s done, it will all come out in the wash eventually. It always does.

burglaraphobia · 20/05/2025 14:41

This makes no sense as its the point of any discursive internet forum; you can have an opinion on a topic without feeling so strongly or even just being bothered to start a thread and anyway what would be the point of a 100 threads on the same topic.

I don't like him because some of the sketches which he wrote are not funny and cruel and contribute to stigma - eg - my post above about the incontinent woman sketches.

I'm waiting for "The Walliams Enquiry".

He's creepy AF!

He has very good lawyers.

AnnaL94 · 20/05/2025 14:45

Still baffled at how he managed to pull Lara Stone.

Theymademecreate · 20/05/2025 14:45

I'll admit finding him and "little Britain " funny. Then i seen him on x factor or something similar, and reading his books to my daughter and UGH he is creepy as

Pianoaholic · 20/05/2025 14:48

I used to enjoy 8 out of 10 cats, mainly for Sean Lock. When DW was on it I could hardly bear to watch. The way he would grope and snog Jimmy Carr, who I also dislike (!) was vile.
Also think his books are complete crap.

I have reported the worst comments on this thread and they have been deleted. Any poster who makes libellous comments on line risks legal action but beyond that it is impossible for anyone to reach the twisted conclusions that have been set out on here several times. This is not a hot topic of the day, just an opportunity for pathetic twisted keyboard warriors to have a go.

Looks like his lawyer just showed up!

AnonymousBleep · 20/05/2025 14:57

There's definitely dirt on this one. Creepy AF.

His books are awful. So badly written. I read a couple to my kids and found them as creepy and unlikeable as the man himself.

PetaltotheMedal · 20/05/2025 15:01

Floogal · 20/05/2025 12:59

I liked Little Britain, but must admit, the Bitty and gerontophile sketches are absolutely disgusting. Especially with that old lady's feet.
Also, I don't understand his acting like a gay man persona.

Perhaps to try and suggest to the people he'd rather 'pay attention to' that he's not someone to worry about.

lifeonmars100 · 20/05/2025 12:26

I find him really creepy. I also find Jimmy Carr and Ricky Gervais creepy too, just something "off" about them, can't rationally explain it. Maybe we could have a thread about "people in the public eye who have a bad vibe" though it could become libellous so maybe not a good idea. Always thought Sean Coombs/P Diddy was utterly vile so was right about him!

Oh I completely agree with you there. JC and RG have a really nasty vibe about them.

Penelopetu · 20/05/2025 15:01

Half his books are ghost written - I know one of the ghost writers!

To be fair, he was a successful comedy writer before writing kids books. He writes his own books, there is absolutely no doubt about that.
