He’s on This Morning right now. He makes my skin crawl. Him and Ben Shepherd together is like the duo from Hell.

YANBU - he’s such a creepy man
YABU - he’s a fine upstanding member of society, you’re the creepy one here

I'm waiting for "The Walliams Enquiry".

He's creepy AF!

IfYouPutASausageInItItsNotAViennetta · 20/05/2025 11:44

He seems to actively work on it as his whole persona - it isn't just something incidental that he can't help.

He must thrive on knowing that millions of people at home are all going "Eeeeuuurrgghh, slimy!" every time he appears on the TV.

It does make you wonder whether there might be an element of 'hidden in plain sight' at play here.

Brightsunpen · 20/05/2025 11:46

And the whole, pretending he’s sexually attracted to men when he is actually a womaniser (who hasn’t treated women well) is gross. He was just making loads of jokes about fancying Ben Shepherd on his shirtless Men’s Health cover.

I find the whole campness annoying.
Reminds me of Duncan Norvelle and "chase me".

He could be both, there are not mutually excusive

SugarPlumpFairyCakes · 20/05/2025 11:47

I thought he was gay?

But he’s not. He’s been clear about that. It’s a weird show

And let’s not forget his delightful comments about contestants on BGT. Imagine saying that to your colleagues

I’ve met him four times through work. I was expecting the DW you see on tv but I’m convinced it’s just a huge act as he was totally different when not surrounded by people and/or cameras. Almost quiet, polite, courteous and came across really well I was shocked at how I’d pre judged him. It’s a shame he must feel a need to be a certain way in public as he was lovely

KIlliePieMyOhMy · 20/05/2025 11:51

The 'gays' phoned they don't want him.

BoredZelda · 20/05/2025 11:54

I really dislike him. Anyone who writes in a way that makes fun of vulnerable groups, is not a good person.

His kids’ books are horrible to read, not just because of content but stylistically are very poor. And yet people talk about him as if he is Shakespeare.

Genuinelyenquiring · 20/05/2025 11:55

He groped my friend when she was 18 and he was at least 30. They were taking a photo and he had one arm around her then boyfriend and the other round her and whilst the photo was being taken he groped her bum. Absolutely revolting man. Loathe him.

holidayclubs · 20/05/2025 12:00

From what I’ve seen it’s almost like some sort of attention seeking shock factor behavior as soon as there’s an audience for it. There doesn’t seem to be an in between either quiet calm and polite or a hyperactive menace

okydokethen · 20/05/2025 12:05

I just can’t forgive him for the hours I’ve spent reading his god awful children’s books

Little Britian was utter drivel

angelopal · 20/05/2025 12:08

He is really creepy.

Brightsunpen · 20/05/2025 12:09

you didn’t ’judge him.’ He’s quite clearly told you - and everyone else - who he is.

From making nasty misogynistic comments about contestants when he thought he was off camera to children’s books full of vile and demeaning stereotypes of ‘single mothers’, ‘poor people’ and ‘fat people.’ He’s a disgusting man with disgusting views who’s sometimes quiet and polite surely rather than the other way around

Yes you’re right it was just very strange ! Hard to work out which version is the real him and if the one we see in public is fake why would you pick to act that way ?! So I don’t know what to think as he was the total opposite of what I expected I was actually on edge the first time I met him as was anxious about him!

There’s long existing discourse regarding this. For years now really.

Stressmode · 20/05/2025 12:20

Gut instinct is an interesting thing for sure. Certain people give off a vibe, others hide in plain sight.

minnienono · 20/05/2025 12:20

@TheLimeQuail. He is, he has a larger than life stage character. I met him and he was very ordinary and nice when being just himself.

my kids are too old to have been into his books but they are really popular with children of a certain age including reluctant readers. Many books especially kids fiction are full of stereotypes, you have to explain why the kids aren’t being supervised - orphans, boarding school, summer holidays , visiting cousins and yes single mother at work

I'm not convinced he's even read all of his own books, let alone written them. Lauding him as the new Roald Dahl is absurd. (From a storytelling, not racism pov obvs)

lifeonmars100 · 20/05/2025 12:26

I find him really creepy. I also find Jimmy Carr and Ricky Gervais creepy too, just something "off" about them, can't rationally explain it. Maybe we could have a thread about "people in the public eye who have a bad vibe" though it could become libellous so maybe not a good idea. Always thought Sean Coombs/P Diddy was utterly vile so was right about him!
