He’s on This Morning right now. He makes my skin crawl. Him and Ben Shepherd together is like the duo from Hell.

YANBU - he’s such a creepy man
YABU - he’s a fine upstanding member of society, you’re the creepy one here

I also can't warm to DW. My DD brought home one of the books from school and it just was plain nasty in terms of calling people names etc so I complained to the teacher that this wasn't what I wanted mine to be reading. Not sure why anyone would read this stuff given how many great authors are out there.

Also, there's something rather odd about his wife coming home to him, then immediately filing for divorce. And never any sign of his son. Usually the papers would have one mention but absolute zilch. This is fine but unusual.

Peaceandquietandacuppa · 21/05/2025 06:30

YANBU - we don’t have his books in our house because I strongly feel there is something dodgy about him.

BUT - Ben Shepherd is lovely! I remember him from T4 days 😍

LillyPJ · 21/05/2025 06:41

I've often wondered the same. Is it his creepy eyes? Glad I didn't see the programme.

To be fair, he was a successful comedy writer before writing kids books. He writes his own books, there is absolutely no doubt about that.

There really is doubt about it. It comes up regularly in writing circles for a variety of reasons.

BoredZelda · 20/05/2025 11:54

I really dislike him. Anyone who writes in a way that makes fun of vulnerable groups, is not a good person.

His kids’ books are horrible to read, not just because of content but stylistically are very poor. And yet people talk about him as if he is Shakespeare.

I refuse to read them. I dislike 'celebrity' novels on principle anyway, but I'm sure his are especially awful.

They're probably the better ones.

I bet they're all ghost written. How would he have the time (or skill)?

Ilikeadrink14 · 20/05/2025 14:33

I agree. It seems to me that someone comes on here out of the blue, posts a nasty comment about someone and all of a sudden there are loads of people jumping on the bandwagon agreeing with them. If they felt so strongly about the subject matter, why didn’t they come on and raise the subject themselves?
It’s as if we are a load of sheep! Guillotine mentality and unfair.

I’ve thought it for years, since Little Britain. I rarely start threads but if I see one about something I agree with, I’m not “jumping on the bandwagon”. I’m simply agreeing - isn’t that what all Mumsnet posts are about? You agree, or you don’t - and move on? Weird take.

PuppyDay · 21/05/2025 06:52

A few years ago he was opening an event I took my 7 year old to. At the end he was required to mix with the kids. He looked so bored and when my 7 year old asked for his autograph he said “can’t you just ask for a selfie like everyone else” and refused the autograph. He then attached himself to an attractive young GBBO contestant who was also part of the event and turned his back on the children.

Hadmysay · 21/05/2025 06:55

All this time I thought he was gay

NottsNora · 21/05/2025 07:14

Flyswats · 21/05/2025 01:11

What did he say?

Not exactly ODFOD but essentially he told her to FO.

Driedmealworms · 21/05/2025 07:22

Yes definitely creepy.

My son really liked the world’s worst children books and when he was about 7 spent weeks writing his own version (it was a pretty good effort for a 7 year old) which he wanted us to send to him.
My husband tweeted a couple of photos of it to him but he didn’t even like the post. So I bear a grudge about that as well!

I like RG though- I think he’s clever. And no issue with BS.
Not sure about JC but definitely doesn’t give off the same creepy vibes as DW

AmusedOpalShaker · 21/05/2025 07:28

10 years we will all be watching a Panorama about him, I’m sure.

Creepy as hell.

When the rumours about Huw Edwards broke before we knew who it was about, my first thought was David Walliams. Then read the detail that it was a BBC presenter so didn't seem how they would describe DW. Was genuinely shocked that the revelation wasn't about him after all as have thought for years surely only a matter of time now.

He's like an adult school bully. The faux gay thing is just a distraction.

My mum died at the end of last year. One of the things she wanted to see before her death was the truth about Walliams to come out.
She was VERY disappointed when it wasn't Walliams but Edwards.
I still remember Walliams in Spaced. He was terrifying.

I find him really creepy. I also find Jimmy Carr and Ricky Gervais creepy too, just something "off" about them, can't rationally explain it. Maybe we could have a thread about "people in the public eye who have a bad vibe" though it could become libellous so maybe not a good idea. Always thought Sean Coombs/P Diddy was utterly vile so was right about him!

Ricky Gervais? He's awesome. He is a genius the way he shines a spotlight on the trans bullshit and men pretending they're women. He's a loud and vocal supporter of animal rights. Plus, I can't find any examples of him being a misogynist. No skits poking fun at women or tired clichés.

StillCreatingAName · 21/05/2025 08:51

The state of this thread, why is MN full of these now? Someone decides they think someone-they don’t actually know, other than what they’ve seen on TV- is a creep, then there’s a pile on from randoms with all their unverified anecdotes and before you know it, up pops the suggestion they must be guilty of something darker. All these people named are someone’s dad, son, brother, friend or husband and this might be news to the OP, none of them are guilty of anything until charged. No, I don’t know any of them named personally, I just don’t think it’s ok for these threads to be the norm.

If you must fill your day after This Morning has ended, why not post in your social media accounts for laughs and likes instead where you’d end up in legal waters by naming people and making suggestions about their behaviour ?

Neverseenfireflies · 21/05/2025 08:58

I really don’t understand why he’s on tv/his popularity, I love Cat Deeley, but she was all over him…not in *That way, but as though she liked him, I realise it’s her job to be like this, but still

PetaltotheMedal · 21/05/2025 09:09

none of them are guilty of anything until charged

That's not how it works.

DatingDinosaur · 21/05/2025 18:51

"none of them are guilty of anything until charged"

Unfortunately, some are and it's only proven once charged. Up until that point they just got away with it.

Again, look at JS and how all that was brushed under the carpet at the time and when people spoke out they were silenced.

@JessWild Sorry for your loss. I know how horrible loss of a mother is so this post will really stick in my mind.

If anything ever happens, I know I will think "ah that poster on Mumsnet will be so pleased for her mother"!!!

AineN · 22/05/2025 15:09

Oh yeah open misogyny is just "fine" - tbh, it seems so much easier when it was blatant back in the 70s... The insidious version is harder to fight.

And the horseshoe phenomenon is so true - the Left treat every form of hatred way more seriously than that of women and girls.

TheKindPlumHelper · 12/06/2025 05:07

I’ve enjoyed him since Little Britain and I think he’s funny.

NOTANUM · 12/06/2025 05:12

David Walliams is in the papers today for twice doing a Nazi salute during a recording of the Christmas edition of Would I Lie to You. The audience and presenters were embarrassed and the host Rob Brydon said there and then it would not be shown. (Source: The Times)

That’s a very odd thing to do in this day and age.

KIlliePieMyOhMy · 20/05/2025 11:47

I find the whole campness annoying.
Reminds me of Duncan Norvelle and "chase me".

I'd forgotten him ,he was so fucking annoying and unfunny.

CeaselesslyIntoThePast · 12/06/2025 05:57

Little Britain WAS brilliant though eh?
